Chapter 49

Chapter 49

I woke up with a splitting headache; the sun was already high in the sky.

I leaned against Wu Qi's chest, feeling utterly weak and powerless.

I don't know when it ended last night; it felt like it was already dawn.

Before going to sleep, Wu Qi put his T-shirt on me. It was so big it looked like a nightgown. It originally had a faint scent of soap, but now it had taken on a sensual feel.

I lifted my collar, looked down, and everything went black again.

The area below her chest was covered with hickeys and teeth marks, like footprints left by someone, extending all the way to her upper thighs.

"Wu Qi," I closed my aching eyes, "can you explain this to me?"

"Isn't it beautiful?" Wu Qi said casually. "I've admired it for a long time."

"..."

Let's do it.

They even play with flowers.

I tried to get up, but a soreness came from my waist. My body, made of a handful of immortal soil, was indeed unreliable; it felt like it was about to fall apart at any moment.

After a long internal struggle, I finally gritted my teeth, stood up, leaned against the wall, and glared at Wu Qi with a sour expression.

What's most infuriating is that after all this commotion, this person still seems very energetic.

"...I'll never pretend to be a big shot again," I murmured.

"What did you say?" Wu Qi asked, staring at me lazily.

"I said, I regret it."

The moment I said that, the atmosphere in the room changed instantly, and I realized that I had said the wrong thing.

Whatever happened last night, Wu Qi must have made a huge decision and acted against his reason. He has sacrificed so much, and yet I only replied with "I regret it"... This will only make him sad again.

I quickly added, "Actually, I don't regret it that much—"

"It's too late to regret it now." Wu Qi coldly interrupted me, stood up, walked up to me, and whispered in my ear, "I've already taken advantage of you."

"..."

I forgot this person's shameless nature.

I decided to drop the pretense and said, "Actually, I wanted to say that I quite enjoyed it too."

Wu Qixiao: "You'd better be."

The square windows frame the outside scenery like a portrait, and the courtyard is full of colorful flowers. The wind rustles the grass and trees, as if a filter of spring has been added.

The old staircase creaked as Zhou Huai yawned and walked up from downstairs.

"Brother Qi, I think I hear Sister Yueyue's voice—"

His hand was still at his mouth, tears welled in his eyes, and when he looked up at me, he froze.

I crossed my arms and waited for his reaction.

"Holy crap... Sister Yueyue, I didn't even realize it was you. You've become even more beautiful." He lowered his hand, noticed the oversized T-shirt I was wearing, and his expression immediately changed: "Why are you wearing his clothes?"

"Or else?" I countered, "I'll stay naked all the time?"

Hearing this, Zhou Huai realized that he hadn't prepared clothes for me. He said "Oh, oh" and scratched his head.

Wu Qi was shirtless, but when he saw Zhou Huai approaching, he restrained himself slightly and found another garment to put on. I also combed my hair; I hadn't expected it to grow so long. I used to be able to wear it loose, but now I could only tie it into a single ponytail.

"But did you two hear anything last night?" Zhou Huai suddenly asked.

The two people remaining in the room stopped what they were doing at the same time.

I glanced in Wu Qi's direction, and he happened to be avoiding my gaze, looking down to straighten the wrinkles in his clothes.

He remained quite calm: "What's all the noise?"

"Well..." Zhou Huai couldn't quite describe it, "It sounded like a little girl was crying..."

I:"……"

Zhou Huai: "It seems like she was bullied by someone, she was crying quite miserably."

I:"…………"

Wu Qi walked over, his expression unchanged, and said to Zhou Huai, "You misheard."

"Huh? Really?" Zhou Huai was also unsure.

"Or there's another possibility," Wu Qi lied through his teeth without batting an eye, "it's the old lady next door—"

Zhou Huai: "Huh?"

Wu Qi pointed in the direction of the next room and finished the sentence: "—Talking in their sleep."

Zhou Huai: "..."

I facepalmed.

Do you really think Zhou Huai will believe that? Do you really think he's a fool?

Suddenly, Zhou Huai slapped his thigh and exclaimed, "Holy crap, that's really possible!"

I:"?"

Zhou Huai's eyes widened: "Yesterday she was talking to me about her heartbreak when she was young. Maybe she was feeling down and depressed in the middle of the night, and she might be thinking about me! I have to go see her right away!"

I:"……"

This is allowed?

He ran down the stairs in a flash, without even looking back.

I listened to his footsteps disappear at the top of the stairs, and only after running into the yard did I breathe a sigh of relief.

A little sweat appeared on my forehead.

I was terrified.

But I have to admit that, putting aside the fear, doing this kind of thing under someone's nose still has a certain taboo and secretive flavor.

I remembered the secret kiss in the warehouse before the choir competition, the lipstick that was eaten, and the urging broadcast.

Before I could catch my breath, the creaking of the stairs started again, and my relaxed back tensed up once more.

Zhou Huai was in a hurry this time, climbing the steps two steps at a time.

He gripped the stair railing, his expression much more serious than before.

“There’s a fairy maiden downstairs.” Zhou Huai’s gaze swept back and forth between Wu Qi and me before he spoke carefully. “She said that you only have one week left in the mortal world.”

A week?!

I turned my head abruptly.

Is it really that fast?

I had counted down the days and there was still a month left, but before I knew it, there was only a week left.

But looking back, I haven't been idle for the past two weeks. I was like a zombie for a while, then a rabbit for a while, and only today have I finally become a human again. It's been quite fulfilling.

I took a deep breath.

"I understand. Has the fairy left?" She came all this way, and instead of coming in for some tea, I, as a fairy, should at least go out and say hello.

Zhou Huai opened his mouth, and just as he uttered the word "no," a gust of wind flashed before his eyes, seemingly carrying a touch of golden starlight.

The fairy maiden instantly teleported in front of me in two steps.

She bent down and greeted me, "Empress Taixi has a message for you."

I hadn't heard the name of Empress Taixi for a long time, and my chest trembled.

The fairy whispered in my ear, "She knows everything that happened to you in the mortal world."

I asked nervously, as if I'd been caught doing something wrong, "She knows?"

The fairy then said, "She also kept it a secret for you."

This is a shameful fact; for a deity to be mistaken for a monster in the mortal realm would be a disgrace to the heavens.

I quickly returned the favor and said, "Thank you so much, Yue..."

“No need to thank me so early,” she said in a delicate voice, probably a fairy maidservant by the side of Empress Taixi, even her expression was somewhat similar. “She said she only kept it from those in heaven, not those on earth.”

In other words, although she kept it from the Heavenly Emperor, she did not interfere with the school's affairs.

The rumors are still spreading and have gotten out of control.

I lost control too, and my expression was scrutinized by the fairy maiden from head to toe.

She said playfully, "You don't have to be so gloomy, do you? Let me tell you a secret, the reason why Empress Taixi didn't hide it wasn't because she didn't want to care. She wanted to care, but after walking around your high school a few times, she realized—there's no need to care."

What does "no need to hide it" mean?

I'm a little confused.

But when I asked her again, she stopped answering.

My heart had long been ravaged into a desolate wasteland, but these words were like a drop of rain falling on the dry, cracked soil, soaking it into a moist place.

I dare not place any expectations on it, but I must admit that the seeds of hope have been sown.

Perhaps it was because my expression changed from cloudy to sunny that the fairy maiden admired me again.

“But don’t be too optimistic,” she said. “This matter itself goes against the laws of nature, and she believes you are aware of this. Once you return to heaven, their memories will still be interfered with.”

I asked, "How should we intervene?"

"Empress Taixi has given you two choices." She leaned closer, whispering in my ear in a voice only the two of us could hear.

"First, announce your deaths so that they may witness them."

She spoke of it so casually, as if this "death" wasn't death at all, but rather someone's daughter getting married. My eyes widened in disbelief: "What?"

"Doesn't Your Highness understand?" She covered her lips with her sleeve. "This matter was never spread in the first place. If you suddenly die in front of them, even if the rumor is true, who can verify it?"

And they want to die in front of them.

Let them witness it with their own eyes.

Just how strong of a mental fortitude does one need to withstand this?!

That's far too cruel.

"They're only 17!" I exclaimed, suddenly agitated. "Leaving aside whether they consider me a friend, the mere mention of 'death' is enough to leave them with a lifetime of psychological trauma!"

After hearing my words, Fairy Maiden remained unmoved, only saying, "What do their psychological traumas have to do with you?"

"..."

Yes, they are related.

Yes, they are related.

After spending so much time together, Tian Qingqing's hair tie is still tied to my hand, Meng Xiaoqiong's physics notes are still in my handwriting, Li Guangheng was still reminiscing about my personality when I first entered school when he was drunk, and Yu Yuan was still thinking about how to surpass me and become number one... How could it not be related?

I silently clenched my fist.

"Don't look at me like that," the fairy maiden said, still with that indifferent expression. "Isn't there another option?"

This is already so messed up, is the next option to just kill them all?

Then I might deal with this one in front of me first.

She lowered her sleeve and mouthed a gesture.

I only regret that my reaction time was too fast, and I understood what she meant in an instant.

Then I was plunged into a huge sense of bewilderment.

"It seems you've made your choice. I can go back and report to Lady Taixi now." The fairy smiled. "Your Highness, see you in a week."

I stared at her, bewildered.

She said, "All the maple leaves in your courtyard are thinking of you."

I averted my gaze again.

The fairy stopped talking to me and moved to Wu Qi's side, bowing respectfully as well. "Even the God of Wealth shouldn't let frivolous pursuits distract you from your studies."

Wu Qi looked up and glanced at her.

"His Highness the Matchmaker will explain the specific choices to you in detail; it is a decision for both of you."

After saying this, she vanished with the wind, just as she had come.

The wind blew against the wooden cabinet doors through the sealed attic windows, creating a sense of desolation despite the otherwise warm and inviting atmosphere.

I looked at Wu Qi with helpless eyes. He walked over and hugged me tightly.

Zhou Huai, who was standing to the side, also looked away, as if he could sense that the content of this conversation was not so simple.

After spending some time in the human world, he was also quite affected by this kind of emotion. He scratched his head, muttered something like, "I still have to coax the old lady next door," and left.

Only the two of us remained in the attic.

I buried my face in his chest and listened as he said, "The first thing is death, and you didn't agree to that."

I mumbled a "Mmm".

I then added, "I didn't agree to the second one either."

Wu Qi asked, "What's the second one?"

I read those lip movements clearly, word for word, and they're etched in my memory. But reading them is one thing, speaking them is another, and finally, performing them is yet another.

I held back my tears and shook my head violently.

“Then let me guess,” Wu Qi tried to ease the tension, his tone slightly amused, “would you make them forget everything that happened that day? So that no one can remember it?”

I didn't say anything.

Wu Qi continued, "Isn't this great? So what are you upset about? Do you want to pay some price? Like confiscating a maple tree from the Matchmaker's Palace... Oh, I know, it'll deduct your merit points! Sigh, these are all minor matters."

No...no.

I said, my voice choked with emotion.

It's completely off track.

"Not what?"

"It's not about forgetting everything that happened that day."

Wu Qi had a guess in his mind, and his face instantly lost its color.

I held his suddenly cold body tightly, forcing myself to be cruel for once.

"yes……

Erase the entire year we existed.

Let it remain in their memories.

From then on, Sang Yue and Wu Qi were no more.
