Chapter 9

Chapter 9

I was in a detached state.

My mind is a bit of a mess, my heart is racing for no apparent reason, and my back is taut.

It seems the person sitting behind me isn't Wu Qi... he has a long, narrow face.

For the past three to six months, I've felt that getting to know Wu Qi was a major mistake in my life, one I can't shake off.

We've always been at each other's throats since we were little, neither of us willing to give in. Whenever the Jade Emperor found out, he would punish us by making us guard the gate, which was even more festive than the stone lions.

But as they get older, they argue less and less, and the periods of cold war become shorter and shorter.

I remember once Wu Qi broke the red string I had carefully maintained.

I poured a lot of effort into this, enduring eighty-one days of hard work, before finally connecting that beautiful but mortal young man with the red thread of fate, only to have it snapped with a single pull from him.

I was furious and gave him the cold shoulder for a very long time. The God of Marriage wouldn't even let him step into the palace.

One night, around midnight, I woke up thirsty and saw a lamp lit on the desk. Wu Qi had somehow climbed in, holding an ancient book, and was trying to imitate how to repair the red thread.

The light was dim, only illuminating his eyes and brows. Only when you got close could you hear him muttering softly, "...Where were we working on yesterday? This red thread is so thin. Doesn't A-Yue get tired of looking at this every day?"

I'm not seeing things, but my eyes are a little red.

I exclaimed, "Hey!"

Wu Qi was startled, and seemed to have uttered a curse word, then shifted the blame, saying, "I'm so busy, and you're sleeping soundly."

I stood still.

Wu Qi seemed a little flustered and tentatively called out again, "Since you're up, come and help. What are you standing there for?"

After that, I understood that Wu Qi never apologized; he just silently tried to make amends and give me a way out.

A red string is like that, and so is the phrase "forgive and forget."

The classroom was unusually quiet, and the Chinese teacher left satisfied after finishing her lesson.

As soon as the bell rang, people gathered around Wu Qi.

"Wu, your surname is quite unique. Are you a local?"

"You look like a certain celebrity..."

"Does Wu Qi have a girlfriend?"

Wu Qi sighed somewhat irritably and said, "Not a local. People like you usually come from the sky."

While it seems like only the first question was answered, the remaining two were actually answered together: Celebrity? Girlfriend? They don't deserve it.

The people around remained silent for a long time.

I saw the boy closest to him twitch between his eyebrows and ask, "Uh... Qi-ge, who came from heaven, why did you transfer to our school?"

"It's a long story, don't rush me." Wu Qi raised his eyes, "I'll have Sang Yue tell you some bedtime stories when I have the chance."

I:"……"

That's awesome, bro.

I hired an assistant for myself on the first day of school.

I was holding a question in my hand, and was about to pretend I hadn't heard it when I looked up and saw a group of people staring at me.

...

Depend on.

With a shove of his stool, Wu Qi stood up. "I'm just going to the restroom. No need to see me off."

He walked out of the classroom with his hands in his pockets in full view of everyone. This moon god is amazing, he suddenly gained the ability to read minds.

I heard a single sentence float across the heads of the completely silent classroom—

What a fucking pretentious act.

Meng Xiaoqiong thought the same thing, but she reacted a little faster than the others: "Hey Sang Yue, isn't this your childhood sweetheart...?"

"No, I don't know, I don't recognize him."

I transformed myself into someone who knew nothing when asked.

Perhaps it was because Wu Qi's act was so unique that he quickly established his pretentious image in people's minds within just two days, and no one in the class dared to mess with him.

I unilaterally severed ties with Wu Qi for two days, maintaining a "friendly distance" where neither of us knew the other.

Wu Qi wasn't angry. He just grabbed my schoolbag when school was over. Before I could even run out of the classroom, I heard him say, "Trying to run?"

I felt like a little chick in his hands, so I shamelessly stood back next to him.

"I'm not running anymore! I'm not running anymore!"

I straightened my clothes and said calmly, "I can't fly or disappear into the ground, so where can I run to?"

Wu Qi: "Your Highness the Matchmaker is too modest. If you really want to run away, I won't be able to catch you."

I jumped in surprise and quickly covered his mouth: "No! Don't forget this is the human world, there's no need for formalities."

Wu Qi smiled in my palm, then reached out and hooked my wrist. "Oh, Yue."

"..."

Okay, compared to that, calling someone by their nickname is surprisingly much more comfortable.

On the way back, we chatted casually as we walked, just like usual, except that the people next to us were wearing the same school uniform as me, with the same white short-sleeved shirts underneath, and both of them had the school badge of Nancheng No.1 Middle School.

We were on the same page; neither of us mentioned the argument from that day. Looking up, we saw green trees and blue sky, and the summer breeze brushed past us.

"Wu Qi," I looked at him, "is school fun?"

Wu Qi replied quickly: "Boring."

This answer is not surprising.

Although Wu Qi sat behind me, I couldn't see his expression, but I could hear him yawning thirty times during the entire class, as if he could eat the teacher alive.

Wu Qi then said, "Even mortals are noisy and disorderly. I really don't know what you're so attached to about school... Just because that aunt Tai Xi let you? When did you become so obedient?"

I corrected her, "Empress Taixi is highly respected, don't talk nonsense."

Wu Qi: "Yes, yes, who isn't highly respected in your eyes?"

I'm too lazy to discuss this further. He's a man who talks a good game behind people's backs. He calls me "Auntie Taixi" but then he'll call everyone else "Sister."

Every time, I hate myself for not kicking him to death sooner.

Hearing him say that, I recalled how eagerly the students sat next to him during breaks, and he never seemed impatient; sometimes he would even chat with them for a bit.

I glanced at him: "Don't you like having someone revolve around you?"

The path is long, stretching out summer in a long and melodious way.

"I like it."

Wu Qi rubbed the back of his neck, glanced at me, and said, "I'd like someone else who's always around me..."
