Chapter 14 Wolf Warrior

Chapter 14 Wolf Warrior

The three generations of the family walked in the Qiaohan Mountains for several days without encountering a single person, whether they were pursuers or hunters.

Grandpa Ling kept comforting the two of them cheerfully, saying that they would be able to cross the mountains soon, the weather was getting warmer, and they would not have to worry about being cold or hungry in the mountains.

Jin'an follows his grandfather and sister during the day, looking like a complete child.

The three of them went fishing, picking wild fruits, taking bird eggs, digging wild vegetables, catching grasshoppers, and digging silkworm pupae to roast and eat.

No matter how Grandpa Ling improved the traps or used divination, the three of them just couldn't catch a pheasant. Grasshoppers and silkworm pupae were considered protein supplements.

Jinsui has given up hunting. The funny thing is that Grandpa Ling is very afraid of snakes.

When they were fishing in the shallow stream, a snake swam over. Jin'an wanted to catch it and stew it, but Grandpa Ling was so scared that he jumped from the shallow stream to the shore and ran away very fast.

But when Jinsui and Jinan teamed up to catch the snake and made snake soup, Grandpa Ling ate it with great relish again.

While chewing the snake meat, he said, "I'll let you scare me!"

Jinsui laughed out loud: "Grandpa, why are you so afraid of snakes?"

Grandpa Ling looked around cautiously and said, "Don't mention that name. That thing is very evil. It will come as soon as you mention it."

He showed the two children the scars on their calves: "When I was young, I got bit by that thing. I almost lost my leg."

"Once bitten by something, you will be afraid of ropes for ten years!"

Jin'an also smiled until her face turned red. It turned out that adults who were omnipotent in the eyes of children also had things to fear! But at night, Jin'an would often cry in her sleep, sobbing softly, holding back the grief, and gently calling out:

"mother."

Every time this happened, Grandpa Ling would pat Jin'an on the back, but he would not say anything to comfort her.

Jinsui didn't know how to comfort his brother, and even thought that crying would be helpful to relieve his stress.

Until one day, Jin'an unconsciously curled up in her arms in his sleep, like an abandoned cub.

Helplessly grasping Jin Sui's sleeve, he called out affectionately and sadly, "Mom, don't go."

Jin Sui really couldn't bear it, so she hugged him and imitated Jiang's voice to comfort him: "Mother is here, dear boy, don't be afraid."

Jin'an's crying gradually stopped, his frowning brows relaxed, and he fell into a deep sleep.

Grandpa Ling looked at her in surprise and asked softly, "When did you learn this skill?"

Jin Sui remained calm under the light of the bonfire: "It's not ventriloquism, I'm just learning to imitate other people's voices. I can't make cat or dog sounds."

Grandpa Ling stopped asking questions and said with a smile: "Grandpa was thinking that if you really know how to perform ventriloquism, we can make a living by doing it in the future."

Jin Sui also laughed: "It's probably hard to make money, it's more reliable for Grandpa to tell fortunes."

While Jin'an was sleeping, she took the opportunity to ask, "Grandpa, tell me the truth, are you not planning to go to Chang'an?"

Grandpa Ling sighed: "Sui Sui is very smart. You can't hide Grandpa's thoughts from you."

"Alas, I know you two siblings want to fulfill your mother's last wish, but your father's case involves the Heavenly Family!"

"Compared to clearing your father's name, Grandpa wants you and your brother to grow up safely."

To be honest, Jin Sui also thought so. Ling's father's case involved the deposed crown prince, and it was a case tried by the emperor himself.

It is almost impossible to overturn the verdict while the emperor is alive!

What's more, there are three of them, old and young, and women can hardly take a single step in that era.

She felt that instead of going to Chang'an at this critical juncture, it would be better to stay there for ten or eight years, waiting for Jin'an to grow up, take the imperial examination and enter the officialdom, and the emperor to get old, and then she could overturn the case.

But she had promised Jiang that if she didn't fulfill Jiang's last wish as soon as possible, she was afraid that she would not be able to sleep well.

After much thought, she came up with a compromise.

"Grandpa, how about this? We don't go to Chang'an, but we still have to prepare for father's case in advance."

"This case involves the deposed crown prince, who has been sent to the borderland of Yan. Why don't we go to Yan to find him and learn more about the case?"

"If all else fails, go to Lantian and find the man surnamed Huang. Try to find out what's going on."

Grandpa Ling was silent for a moment and then said, "Let's talk about it after we get out of the Qiaohan Mountains."

Jinsui knew in her heart that Grandpa Ling still planned to take the two siblings back to their hometown to live a stable life.

Neither of them noticed that Jin'an, in Ling Sui's arms, began to breathe slower and his eyes moved slightly.

The next mountain road was even more difficult to travel on. Jin Sui took out a machete from the space, tied it to a bamboo pole and cleared the way in front.

It was spring, and the mountains and fields were covered with wild weeds and vines, making the roads extremely difficult to identify. Sometimes you saw a flat ground covered with weeds, but when you stepped down you found yourself on an empty cliff.

The mountains in the Central Plains are relatively easy to travel on, as there are not so many cliffs and there are streams between the mountains.

Otherwise, with the physical conditions of these three people, they would not be able to climb over.

In addition to the difficult road, we also have to guard against wild beasts.

Grandpa Ling could tell the territories of ferocious beasts like tigers and leopards by smell and stay away from them.

The problem is wolves. They move in groups and are elusive, making it impossible to detect them in advance.

There happened to be many wolves in this mountain. They encountered wolf packs three times. Once they relied on Grandpa Ling to light a fire and use the flint that the Taoist used for magic to disperse the wolves.

Jin'an was still worried about the wolf pack's revenge, so he didn't dare to kill the lone wolf and could only drive it away with stones.

One time it was at night, the three of them were sleeping soundly, when they suddenly heard a whimpering sound. Jin Sui woke up with a start, and saw green eyes all around him.

The scene was so creepy that she thought she was thrown into the Colosseum in ancient Rome.

Fortunately, she had made preparations. Before going to bed, she poured pine resin and pine oil outside the stone wall circle where the three of them were leaning against. This was made from pine resin that Grandpa Ling taught them to collect after they encountered the wolf pack.

I quickly lit the pine oil ring. This time I had to kill them because these beasts were very smart and the fire ring could not scare them away.

They woke up Grandpa Ling and Jin'an, and each of them held a different "weapon". Grandpa Ling held the machete tied to the bamboo pole, and Jin'an held a handy wooden stick that was specially used to hit the wolf's waist.

Jinan took the powder given by his sister and sprinkled it on the wolf's head. This kid was very good at shooting with a bow and arrow, and he shot the wolf's eyes when he aimed.

All the wolves that rushed into the fire circle were hacked to death. Fortunately, when the fire circle was about to be extinguished, the wolves gave in first, and the wolf king roared, and they all ran away.

Jin Sui was in the mood to kill, so he snatched the machete from Grandpa Ling's hand, chased the wolves, and swung at the wolves that were running slower, attacking them twice before returning, panting.

Damn it, let's see if you dare to come! Do you really think of me as your food?

Jinan looked at his sister's back and asked his grandfather, who was half squatting and breathing heavily, "Didn't they say that my sister was weak and sickly?"

Grandpa Ling waved his hands weakly, trying to call Jinsui, but too tired to do so. He could only gasp and say, "In the past, I was often sick."

Jin'an seemed to understand, he used to be sick all the time, but now he's in good health and can even chase and chop wolves!

Jinsui turned back and gave one more stab to the injured but not dead wolf. After counting, they found that the three of them had killed five wolves together!

No one would believe it if I told them that three people like this are not as strong as a young and strong man.

But they have good cooperation and their fighting power is quite high.

Jin Sui didn't care that eating wild game could easily lead to contracting diseases. She had never eaten meat since she traveled through time!

Grandpa Ling and Jin'an were the same, drooling as they looked at the bleeding wolf corpse.

Grandpa Ling said that the blood would attract other ferocious beasts and we had to leave as soon as possible.
