Chapter 4 An Encounter

Many of the bags of grain had broken, and Xu Lai and her grandfather replaced them with new ones. After all that work, she was exhausted.

Xu Lai carried the beans she had found downstairs. In addition to mung beans, her grandmother had also planted soybeans and black beans last year.

She and her grandmother selected the beans to use as seeds, and for the rest, she searched online for solutions and decided to make mung bean cakes first.

Since there were no other ingredients at home to make mung bean cakes, Xu Lai decided to go to the market in town the next day, just in time for her package to arrive.

She got up at six in the morning and rode her electric scooter out when she ran into the neighbor's grandson running. She originally intended to just pass by, but the other person saw her too. Xu Lai forced herself to greet him: "Good morning."

Zhao Qingyun nodded, and was about to exchange a few pleasantries when the other person had already ridden away on their bicycle.

Grandma Jiang asked curiously, "Aren't you off today? Where did you go so early in the morning?"

Thinking of their chance encounter that morning, Zhao Qingyun smiled and said, "Let's go buy groceries."

Xu Lai went to the market, bought a fish, and then went to the supermarket to buy some ingredients for making mung bean cakes.

The boss laughed when he heard her say that: "That's funny. As long as you plant it with care, it will survive. I guarantee it. If it doesn't sprout, come find me."

Xu Lai squatted there, picking and choosing, and finally bought some of every kind of seed, as well as a chestnut sapling.

Zhao Qingyun watched this scene from a distance and almost laughed. She was really straightforward, asking the boss directly if the crops could be grown.

Xu Lai went to the package pickup point, intending to collect it and go home. However, she forgot that she had sent three or four large boxes, which her small electric scooter couldn't possibly carry back.
