Zhao Qingyun turned and got into the car. Xu Lai leaned against the window, her eyes closed, her brows furrowed, looking very uncomfortable.
He fastened her seatbelt and drove her to the hospital.
The town hospital wasn't far away. A few minutes later, Zhao Qingyun helped Xu Lai out of the car. Xu Lai coughed twice, looked up, and said, "We've arrived at the hospital."
Xu Lai pulled her hand away from his and thanked him, saying, "I'm fine, I can go see a doctor by myself. You can go back first."
Zhao Qingyun's fingers twitched slightly. Seeing her like this, he didn't want to stay any longer, so he nodded and said, "Then you can go in by yourself."
Xu Lai arrived at the emergency room, took out her ID card to register, and soon her number was called. She got up and went in. The doctor asked her about her condition, and Xu Lai answered truthfully.
The doctor gave her a referral to go to the infusion room for an IV drip. Xu Lai thanked him, went to the pharmacy to get the medicine, got a glass of water in the corridor, and took the medicine.
She hadn't had an injection in a long time, and seeing the needle in the nurse's hand made her a little scared. She closed her eyes and didn't dare to look. The nurse patted the back of her hand and said, "The veins in your hand are a bit thin. Make a fist, otherwise I'm afraid I won't be able to get the needle in accurately."
Xu Lai clenched her fists, feeling a sharp pain, like being bitten by a mosquito. When she looked down again, the nurse was already putting tape on her.
The nurse placed the medicine on the worktable, with Xu Lai's prescription underneath. She said, "Xu Lai, right? You still have three bottles of medicine. Did anyone come with you?"
Xu Lai shook her head and said, "No, it's just me."
Upon hearing this, the nurse said, "Then I'll keep an eye on your medicine, but I might get busy and not be able to look after you, so be careful not to fall asleep."
Xu Lai nodded. She was extremely sleepy, but she still dared not close her eyes, afraid that she would lose blood flow if she wasn't careful.
When Zhao Qingyun got home, he cooked porridge. Since cooking it in a clay pot was too slow, he used a pressure cooker, and it was ready in half an hour.
Time was too tight, and he couldn't find the insulated food container right away, so he hurriedly called out to the old lady, "Grandma, do you have an insulated food container at home?"
Grandma Jiang rummaged through the kitchen for a while, found a dusty one, handed it to him, and asked in confusion, "What do you need a thermal container for?"
Zhao Qingyun washed the box with water and said, "Xu Lai has a fever and is getting an injection now. She probably didn't eat dinner, so I'll cook some porridge for her and take it with me."
Upon hearing this, Grandma Jiang hurriedly said, "Then you should go quickly. Isn't it too little to just eat porridge? I'll make her something else to eat."
The porridge had already been ladled into the box. As Zhao Qingyun closed the box, she said, "Let's wait for her to come back to eat. There's no time this time."
When he arrived, Xu Lai was already fast asleep, and her IV drip was almost finished. He sat down next to her and gazed at her.
Xu Lai looked much more haggard than usual, her face was pale and she looked completely bloodless.
After finishing one bottle of IV fluid, Zhao Qingyun got up and asked the nurse to change the dressing. The nurse looked up and thought to herself, "There are such handsome men in town. I've never seen one like him before. He's so much more handsome than my husband."
The nurse took the medicine bottle and said, "You don't need to come here to call us anymore. We can hear you just by calling us from where you are."
Zhao Qingyun explained, "I didn't want to wake her up."
The nurse took one look and realized it was the woman who had come in alone for her injection earlier. She thought to herself, "This couple is really something. They must be having a fight. They're evenly matched in appearance, neither of them is at a disadvantage."
As Xu Lai was sleeping, she suddenly remembered that she seemed to have forgotten to call the nurse to change the IV fluid. Thinking of the image of blood returning to its original state, she was startled and quickly opened her eyes.
Zhao Qingyun was replying to work messages when he suddenly noticed the person next to him move, as if startled. He quickly took her hand and said, "It's okay, it's okay, I'm here."
Xu Lai immediately looked at the medicine bottle and saw that there was still more than half a bottle of medicine left. She relaxed and then saw the hand holding hers.
She quickly pulled it out and asked, "Didn't you leave? Why are you back?"
Seeing that she was awake, Zhao Qingyun took out the porridge and said, "If I don't leave, how can I cook porridge for you?"
He handed over the spoon, holding the box in his hands, and said, "Eat it while it's hot. You should eat something while you're on an IV drip."
Xu Lai's eyes stung again. She blinked, held back her tears, picked up her spoon to drink the porridge, and complained, "This porridge has no flavor. Make it savory next time, I like it that way."
Seeing that she had the energy to joke again, Zhao Qingyun breathed a sigh of relief and agreed, "Okay, once you're better from your cold, I'll arrange a seafood porridge for you, how about that?"
Xu Lai nodded: "Then you'll keep your word."
By 8 p.m., all four bottles of medicine had been finished. Zhao Qingyun packed her things and went to drive the car out. When the nurse removed the needle, she teased, "I've been through this before. Your boyfriend is decent in both character and looks. You two should live a good life together."
Xu Lai was confused and asked, "What couple?"
The nurse pulled out the IV and told her to hold it down, saying, "Isn't he your boyfriend?"
Xu Lai sighed, "They're just neighbors."
The nurse didn't believe her and said, "He's definitely interested in you."
Xu Lai didn't say anything. The nurse put away her IV drip and said, "There are three more bottles tomorrow. Remember to come in for your IV infusion."
She said she understood, and after receiving the injection, Xu Lai felt much of her discomfort disappear and felt refreshed.
She walked to the door, where Zhao Qingyun was already waiting for her in the car. Xu Lai opened the passenger door and fastened her seatbelt.
Zhao Qing drove very fast all the way. When he arrived at the gate of the courtyard, his grandmother was already waiting. It looked like she had been waiting for quite some time.
Grandma pulled her aside, touched her forehead, and said, "Let me see if you still have a fever?"
Xu Lai took her grandmother's hand away and said with a smile, "It's okay, I feel much better after the injection."
Grandma looked at Zhao Qingyun and said, "Little Zhao, you haven't eaten yet, have you? I left some food here, why don't you eat some together?"
Xu Lai was surprised; hadn't he eaten yet?
Zhao Qingyun declined, saying, "No need to trouble Grandma, I'll just eat something at home."
He got into the car and drove it into his own yard. Grandma Jiang put down the remote control and said, "Come and eat, I saved some for you."
Zhao Qingyun washed her hands and began to eat heartily. When Grandma Jiang saw this, she quickly said, "Are you hungry? You've been busy all day, and you're only eating now."
Zhao Qingyun swallowed a mouthful of rice and said, "I'm alright, cough cough, Grandma, can you get me a glass of water? I'm about to choke."
Grandma Jiang couldn't help but laugh, so she quickly went to get a glass of water. Zhao Qingyun took a sip and felt that her breath catch in her throat.
Xu Lai received injections for two more days before her cold fully recovered. She hadn't updated her social media for three days, and her fans were urging her to update. Xu Lai edited the video, posted it, and explained: "[Sorry everyone, I haven't been feeling well these past two days, so I'm updating today.]"
Once she recovered, she was full of energy again. Since some of the fish from last time were still alive, Xu Lai picked out two medium-sized crucian carp to make a soup.
