Back home, Xu Lai took a big bucket, and Grandpa disassembled the cage, lifted it upside down a couple of times, and all the fish in the cage came out.
Xu Lai took this time to make breakfast, which was still boiled noodles, and she also poached an egg on top.
Breakfast was ready, and Grandpa had also prepared the fish. Xu Lai went over to take a look and saw that there were indeed quite a few fish; the bucket was already about a third full.
After finishing her meal, Xu Lai planned to go upstairs for a nap. Before falling asleep, she heard her grandfather say, "There are too many fish. We can't finish them all. Let's send some to the villagers."
She rolled over, set an alarm on her phone, and prepared to find a good position to sleep. When she woke up, it was already eleven o'clock. Xu Lai was a little confused when she saw the time.
It was almost lunchtime when she hurriedly sat up, only to find herself feeling a little dizzy. She shook her head. "I guess I slept too long."
Xu Lai washed her face. Her grandmother was already in the kitchen preparing vegetables. Xu Lai went over, took the work from her grandmother, and said, "Let me do it."
Grandma accidentally touched her arm and found it was terribly hot. She quickly wiped her hand clean and touched her forehead, only to find it was also burning hot.
Grandma exclaimed in surprise, "Xiao Lai, do you have a fever? Quickly take your temperature."
As Xu Lai used the back of her hand to check her forehead temperature, she said, "It shouldn't be, I haven't been sick in so long."
When she touched it, it was indeed frighteningly hot. She washed her hands, went to her room to get a thermometer, and placed it under her armpit.
Xu Lai frowned, waiting for the thermometer to finish, thinking that she should buy an electric thermometer later, as waiting like this was too troublesome.
When the time came, she took it out to check, and saw it was 38.2. She sighed, "Could it be because it fell into the fishpond yesterday?"
Xu Lai went downstairs and told her grandmother. Her grandmother immediately urged her to go to the hospital to see a doctor, but Xu Lai shook her head: "Let's talk about it after dinner. I'll just take some fever reducer later."
She doesn't like going to the hospital. When she was sick before, she was always alone and could only sleep lightly because there was no one to watch the IV drip for her.
She was still wondering why she had no symptoms of illness when she sneezed the next second. Xu Lai took a tissue and wiped her nose.
After lunch, she felt dizzy and lightheaded. She took a fever reducer and went back to bed. She slept soundly for a long time. When she woke up again, she felt that she could not make a sound and her nose was blocked.
Xu Lai checked the time; it was already five in the afternoon. Just then, her grandmother pushed open the door and walked to the bedside, asking softly, "Xiao Lai, are you feeling better?"
Xu Lai felt a lump in her throat. During the years she worked away from home, she had always endured illness on her own. Suddenly feeling the warmth of her family, she felt like crying.
She cleared her throat and said with difficulty, "I don't feel anything, but it seems I still need to go to the hospital to get checked out."
Grandma looked at the sky and said, "It's getting late. You can't ride your electric bike to town by yourself. How about this, I'll go find the village chief and have his youngest son take you there."
Xu Lai nodded. Her clothes were soaked with sweat. She changed her clothes, and her legs felt weak as she walked.
Just as they were about to head to the village chief's house, Zhao Qingyun drove back. Seeing Xu Lai looking so listless, he quickly got out of the car and asked, "What's wrong?"
Xu Lai pointed to her forehead: "I have a slight fever. I'm planning to go to town to get checked out."
Zhao Qingyun asked, "Are you really going like this?"
Xu Lai shook her head and said, "No, I'll borrow a car from the village chief."
He pulled her directly into the car and asked Grandma Xu, "Grandma, are you going?"
Just as Grandma was about to get into the car, Xu Lai stopped her: "Grandma, I can go by myself. You can cook at home. Don't worry, I'll be back soon."
