Chapter 81 Qiao Zhenjun's Retribution Qiao Zhenjun is imprisoned...
Qiao Zhenjun was detained in the interrogation room and interrogated for a long time.
The police officer slammed his fist on the table, glared at him, and questioned him for a long time about how he and Wang Zhaodi had abused Qiao Aimei.
Although Qiao Zhenjun didn't seem to care about going to the police station on his way there, after being locked in the interrogation room for half an hour, he was terrified. Forget about saving Wang Zhaodi, he was afraid that he would be arrested and thrown in jail himself.
When the police asked him, he quickly shifted the blame: "No, I don't know. It has nothing to do with me. It was all Wang Zhaodi's doing. I'm busy with work and often have to drive to other places to deliver goods. I didn't know that Wang Zhaodi treated Aimei like this at home."
Qiao Zhenjun touched his chest, putting on an act without feeling any remorse: "Officer, I am Aimei's biological father, she is my own daughter, how could I stand by and watch her being abused? I really didn't know about this situation!"
Police officer Li scoffed: "You don't know that Wang Zhaodi abused Qiao Aimei? You didn't see it when Wang Zhaodi was beating her at home. All the neighbors in your courtyard saw it. You didn't see it? Are you blind?"
Qiao Zhenjun's face stiffened, and then he burst into tears, saying, "I didn't think that much about it. I thought Wang Zhaodi was just educating Aimei normally."
He covered his face, feigning extreme regret, and said, "I'm usually busy with work and don't have time to check on Aimei at home. When I got home, Wang Zhaodi told me that Aimei was being unreasonable and causing trouble every day, and that she punished Aimei physically. I didn't suspect anything. Who would have thought that that despicable woman, Wang Zhaodi, would lie! Officer, tell me how wicked that woman, Wang Zhaodi, is! She's been hiding between my daughter and me for over ten years, causing our relationship to become so cold!"
Police officer Li curled his lip.
He had heard from Mingxi that Qiao Zhenjun was brought here today because he shamelessly went to the Women's Federation to find Qiao Aimei, with the aim of getting Qiao Aimei to recant her testimony so that Wang Zhaodi could be released.
In front of Qiao Aimei, Qiao Zhenjun still didn't care about anything. He was even willing to let his own daughter, Qiao Aimei, sacrifice herself to save Wang Zhaodi.
When he arrived at the police station and realized he might be implicated by Wang Zhaodi, he immediately changed his tune. It's disgusting!
Police Officer Li: "Don't give me that nonsense. Did you know that Wang Zhaodi promised to marry Qiao Aimei off?"
Qiao Zhenjun cried out in protest, "I'm innocent! Officer, I really didn't know anything about this. I went on a business trip to another city to deliver goods ten days ago. I had no idea that Wang Zhaodi had arranged Ai Mei's marriage."
Police Officer Li: "You really didn't know?"
Qiao Zhenjun: "I really don't know!"
His face flushed red, he slammed his fist on the armrest of the stool and shouted loudly.
He felt wronged when he talked about it.
Don't be fooled by the fact that no one believes he was unaware of this; he genuinely didn't know anything about it!
In other people's eyes, how could Wang Zhaodi, a stepmother, not discuss Qiao Aimei's marriage with her biological father before arranging it?
But the truth is, Wang Zhaodi really didn't consult him.
To be honest, the reason why Wang Zhaodi took it upon herself to do so was quite simple: everyone in the textile factory area knew that Director Guo's son was mentally challenged.
She was afraid that Qiao Zhenjun would find out that she was going to marry Qiao Aimei to such a fool and would be ashamed and disagree, so she secretly settled the matter while Qiao Zhenjun was on a delivery trip to another city.
Wang Zhaodi thought that once the betrothal gifts were received, the six rites were completed, and the wedding date was set, even if Qiao Zhenjun was unhappy, he couldn't say anything out of respect for Director Guo, the workshop leader.
Unexpectedly, Qiao Aimei's marriage fell through, and Wang Zhaodi was arrested, along with Qiao Zhenjun, who was also suspected.
Qiao Zhenjun gets angry whenever he thinks about this.
Wang Zhaodi didn't tell him when she arranged the marriage, and now that the matter has come to light, he's being pointed at and gossiped about along with her.
He had just returned from a trucking trip yesterday, and before he even left the transport team, someone pointed at his back and muttered that he was a bad person, a heartless and wicked father...
Qiao Zhenjun felt increasingly aggrieved and burst into tears, spitting black liquid at Officer Li as he cried.
“Officer, you have no idea how hard it has been for me. Aimei’s biological mother passed away when she was three years old, and I had to raise her alone. Life was tough. I had no choice but to remarry in order to take good care of Aimei. But Aimei and Wang Zhaodi just don’t get along. If I side with my own daughter, it’s not appropriate, since Wang Zhaodi married me and bore me children. I can’t side with my daughter and bully her. If I side with Wang Zhaodi, I’ll inevitably have to neglect Aimei, which has led to this situation…”
Qiao Zhenjun kept rambling on and on, making Officer Li feel nauseous. He picked up his cup, pretended to get some water, and slipped out of the interrogation room.
He strolled over to Mingxi and couldn't help but complain, "Comrade Mingxi, what do you think Qiao Zhenjun is thinking? Does he think that we'll all believe him just because he makes up a few lies?"
Mingxi pursed her lips, thinking to herself, "That's right, who knows what Qiao Zhenjun is thinking?"
They're not brainless; they can tell at a glance how much exaggeration there is in Qiao Zhenjun's words.
He said that it wasn't easy for him to take care of Qiao Aimei, acting as both father and mother to her, and that's why he remarried. In fact, Qiao Zhenjun had just been buried when he asked a matchmaker to introduce him to another woman.
It's said that Qiao Aimei and Wang Zhaodi didn't get along, and he was caught in the middle, feeling uncomfortable. But when Qiao Zhenjun remarried Wang Zhaodi, Qiao Aimei was only three years old. What could a three-year-old know? Could a three-year-old possibly bully an adult like Wang Zhaodi?
He's just too lazy to care about his daughter from his previous marriage now that he has a new wife. Everyone knows what he's thinking.
Mingxi: "Officer Li, don't pay any attention to him. Lock him up for a day and let him calm down."
Her intention was certainly not to actually help Qiao Zhenjun calm down, but rather to get Officer Li to use some methods.
Don't get me wrong, this "using some methods" doesn't mean that Officer Li and his men should take action against Qiao Zhenjun.
In all their years working at the grassroots police station, Officer Li and his colleagues have encountered not the most vicious criminals, but rather petty thieves who never learn, small-minded hoodlums, and timid hooligans... These people treat the police station like their home, always coming in with their own tricks. None of them ever come in and honestly confess their crimes. These veteran police officers at the station have their own methods for dealing with them.
For example, as mentioned earlier, they would lock people in a small, dark room and leave them exposed; they would also turn the corridor lights on at night and deliberately walk past the interrogation room to make noise and keep the people inside awake; they would bring dried cornbread and pickled vegetables for dinner, but no water...
Few can withstand this combo.
Mingxi was implying to Officer Li that they should use these underhanded tactics to mess with Qiao Zhenjun.
She brought Qiao Zhenjun here not so that he could enjoy a life of luxury.
Police Officer Li: "Okay."
He also has a daughter, whom he cherishes dearly. He finds people like Qiao Zhenjun disgusting and readily does things to make Qiao Zhenjun unhappy.
To be honest, if it weren't for the law, he would have wanted to put Qiao Zhenjun in jail.
But to be fair, when Wang Zhaodi forced him to marry her, Qiao Zhenjun wasn't in Beicheng; he was on a business trip and was unaware of it. He also didn't participate in the beating or the restriction of Qiao Aimei's personal freedom.
Let's talk about the past mistreatment of Qiao Aimei.
Qiao Zhenjun had laid a hand on Qiao Aimei before, but that was when Qiao Aimei was a child. After the neighborhood committee and the Women's Federation came to warn him, Qiao Zhenjun never laid a hand on Qiao Aimei again.
Wang Zhaodi usually does the work, while Qiao Zhenjun at most says a few words from the side.
It's been too long since Qiao Aimei was a child, and it's difficult to obtain evidence of domestic violence. It would be extremely difficult to use this to send Qiao Zhenjun to jail.
So even if Mingxi and Officer Li are unwilling, Qiao Zhenjun will only be detained in the police station for a day at most before being released.
In fact, given Qiao Zhenjun's situation, he could have been released after being detained in the interrogation room for twelve hours. However, Officer Li also felt that men like Qiao Zhenjun were disgusting, so he deliberately froze him in place and kept him in the interrogation room for a whole day.
After Mingxi finished explaining to Officer Li, seeing that there was nothing more for her to do, she turned to leave.
As soon as she turned her head, she saw Qiao Aimei standing at the door with tears in her eyes.
Qiao Aimei had obviously heard what Li Gong'an and Mingxi had just said, and her eyes involuntarily stung, and tears streamed down her face.
Even though she had no expectations of Qiao's father anymore, hearing Li Gong'an relay Qiao's father's words still made her feel a dull ache in her heart.
Her memories before the age of three were hazy, but she vaguely remembered that before her biological mother died, she and Qiao Zhenjun had shared some warm memories. She also remembered the scene of Qiao Zhenjun carrying her on his shoulders and letting her ride on his horse.
However, after her mother passed away, Qiao Zhenjun quickly remarried Wang Zhaodi. Wang Zhaodi disliked her and always treated her badly, which led to Qiao Zhenjun no longer treating her the same way as before.
Later, Wang Zhaodi became pregnant and gave birth to a boy, and Qiao Zhenjun completely stopped caring about her as his daughter. She still remembers that at her brother's first birthday party, Wang Zhaodi fed her brother a piece of egg, but her brother didn't want it and threw it on the ground, which she picked up. But when Qiao Zhenjun saw this, he slapped her and said that she didn't act like a proper older sister, even fighting with her brother for a piece of egg.
That slap hurt so much that she couldn't even open her mouth to explain. She hadn't fought with her brother for the eggs; she had just helped pick them up when they fell on the ground.
At that time, Qiao Aimei naively believed that Qiao Zhenjun did love her, but loved Wang Zhaodi and her son more.
She became the one sacrificed in the family for the sake of family harmony and for the happiness of Wang Zhaodi and her son.
Only then did she realize that Qiao Zhenjun did not love her, and likewise, he did not love Wang Zhaodi and her son; he only loved himself.
When her own interests were threatened, Wang Zhaodi also became the one pushed out to sacrifice, just like she had been back then.
Qiao Aimei was somewhat dazed. She used to think that Qiao Zhenjun was bad to her because of Wang Zhaodi. If it weren't for Wang Zhaodi, she and Qiao Zhenjun could have gone back to how they were when they were children.
But as it turns out, it didn't matter whether Wang Zhaodi was there or not, because Qiao Zhenjun treated her badly, not because of Wang Zhaodi.
Mingxi saw Qiao Aimei biting her lower lip, looking unwell, and asked with concern, "Aimei, are you alright?"
Qiao Aimei stared blankly ahead, her eyes unfocused. It took her a long time to come to her senses before she gently shook her head.
Mingxi had no idea what Qiao Aimei was thinking. She only thought that Qiao Zhenjun was worried that he would come back to cause trouble again. She patted her shoulder reassuringly and said, "Don't worry. After this incident, your father shouldn't dare to come back to cause trouble for a while."
Qiao Aimei nodded without saying anything.
However, Sister Wang, who was standing to the side, seemed to be able to tell something.
However, it's not something others can say about this; only Qiao Aimei herself can figure it out.
Although she had also sent Qiao Zhenjun to the police station, Mingxi was still unhappy.
Qiao Zhenjun was cunning; he pushed all the blame onto Wang Zhaodi, while he himself remained unscathed. He was only the subject of some gossip for a while, but after a while, when everyone forgot about it, he would be a clean and honest man again.
Knowing his personality, he might just marry another new wife and live a happy life.
Mingxi felt nauseous whenever she thought about it.
Even after getting off work that evening, Mingxi was still upset about this.
She cursed under her breath as she went home, and just as she reached the alley entrance, she bumped into two old acquaintances she hadn't seen in a long time—Du Haizuoying.
Du Hai, with a smile on his face and joy in his eyes, greeted Ming Xi with a cheerful "Comrade Ming!"
Mingxi's expression softened, and she put on a smile, asking curiously, "Du Hai, Zuo Ying, what brings you here today?"
Du Hai scratched his head and smiled, glancing at Zuo Ying beside him. Zuo Ying was touching her stomach, a bright smile on her face.
Seeing this, Mingxi roughly knew that Zuo Ying was probably pregnant.
Sure enough, the next second Zuo Ying said, "We came here today to share some good news, I'm pregnant."
Mingxi: "Congratulations! This is wonderful news!"
Mingxi quickly led Zuo Ying and Du Hai into the house. When Zhao Sulan heard that Zuo Ying was pregnant, she also congratulated her repeatedly.
Once inside, Mingxi couldn't contain her curiosity. She stared intently at Zuo Ying, looking her up and down, and asked, "When did you find out you were pregnant? How many months along are you now?"
"I just found out yesterday," Zuo Ying said with a smile. "I haven't had any appetite these past few days, and I feel lethargic and unwell. I initially thought it was just heatstroke from the summer heat, but one of the older women in my workshop told me that I looked pregnant and suggested I go to the hospital for a checkup. I took the day off yesterday to go to the hospital and get an appointment, and it turns out I really am pregnant. The doctor said the pregnancy is still very early, less than a month along, but it's confirmed."
Zuo Ying touched her belly. Although it was still early in the pregnancy, she felt different knowing that there was a little life inside her.
This is Zuo Ying and Du Hai's first child, and there are no elders in the family, so Zhao Sulan couldn't help but say a few more words.
“Pregnant women are different from non-pregnant women, especially in the first three months of pregnancy. Zuo Ying, you need to be extra careful. Try not to do heavy work, and be careful not to strain your arm or get into any collisions. You work in the workshop, and you have to lift heavy objects all the time, so you have to be extremely careful. When I was younger, I heard that in our factory workshop, a female worker accidentally strained her arm while working, and she lost her baby right then and there.”
Upon hearing this, Zuo Ying's face turned pale instantly. She gripped the hem of her clothes tightly, her body stiffening and unable to move.
Du Hai, who had been immersed in the joy of becoming a father, also became nervous, clenching his fists and the veins on his arms bulging.
Zhao Sulan noticed the expressions on their faces and realized that her words might have frightened the two young people, so she quickly added, "Hey, don't be too nervous. You can't be sure about this. It depends on the person. Some people are in good health and their babies won't be miscarried no matter what. Others are not in good health and lack nutrition, so their babies are not healthy to begin with. If there is any accident, they might not be able to keep them."
She patted Zuo Ying's hand and said, "Don't think so much. Avoid doing heavy physical labor if you can. Also, make sure you get enough nutrition. You have two mouths to feed now, and the one in your belly needs nourishment too. Try to eat more nutritious food to replenish your qi and blood."
Hearing Zhao Sulan say this, Zuo Ying calmed down a little, but was still nervous.
Du Hai, who was standing nearby, quickly asked, "Aunt Zhao, what do you think is a nutritious meal that would be suitable?"
Zhao Sulan: "The most nutritious thing is definitely meat!"
She said, "Meat, eggs, and milk are all nutritious. If it's convenient for you, it's best to add some seafood, such as sea fish, shrimp, and seaweed. But not crabs, as they are considered 'cold' and pregnant women shouldn't eat too much of them."
Du Hai obediently memorized it.
At this moment, Mingxi added from the side: "Fruits and vegetables are also essential, as they are rich in vitamins."
Du Hai nodded quickly.
Mingxi: "Oh, right, and folic acid too. Pregnant women need to take folic acid. The hospital should be able to prescribe it. You can go to the hospital and ask."
Later generations know that folic acid supplementation is beneficial for both the baby and the mother, but people these days don't have this concept, and unless there are special circumstances, hospitals won't proactively prescribe folic acid tablets.
After all, getting a prescription means spending money. Some people feel that they are perfectly healthy, and the doctor is prescribing medicine for no reason, which is a deliberate attempt to rip them off. They might start arguing about it.
To avoid trouble and unnecessary disputes, folic acid tablets are only prescribed by doctors when pregnant women specifically request them.
Although Du Hai didn't know what folic acid tablets were for, he nodded without hesitation when Mingxi said they were good for pregnant women: "Okay, I'll go to the hospital to ask tomorrow."
Du Hai and Zuo Ying's parents are both gone. Their closest relatives are Du Shuying and Zuo Ershu, but neither of them are good people. When it comes to getting pregnant, there is no elder they can consult.
Now that he'd run into Zhao Sulan, Du Hai was relieved to find someone who could help. He scratched his head and asked earnestly, "Um, Aunt Zhao, my wife hasn't had much of an appetite since she got pregnant. What should we do?"
Zhao Sulan: "It's normal to have no appetite. You haven't even experienced morning sickness yet. Some people have a weaker constitution and experience severe morning sickness in the third or fourth month of pregnancy. They really can't eat anything and vomit everything they eat until they vomit up all the yellow fluid in their stomach."
Du Hai stared wide-eyed: "Then, what do we do now..."
Zhao Sulan: "There's nothing we can do about it, it's unavoidable. We can only say that you should eat as much as you can. If you really can't, you can make something appetizing, something sour and spicy, and see if you can eat it. I have a jar of pickled vegetables that I made a few days ago. They're sour and spicy, quite appetizing. Zuo Ying, you can try them in a bit, and if you like them, you can take them back."
Mingxi added, "If you really feel unwell and can't eat, or if you vomit severely, you can go to the hospital to see a doctor. Doctors can probably prescribe some digestive aids or anti-nausea medication."
Anyway, it's possible in later generations, but I don't know if hospitals these days can prescribe this kind of medicine.
Zhao Sulan wasn't quite sure about this, since her last childbirth was over twenty years ago, and she hadn't been to the hospital more than a few times back then.
However, she nodded and said, "Yes, Du Hai, if you have any questions or feel unwell, you can go to the hospital for advice. After all, this is your first pregnancy, so it's better to be cautious."
Du Hai and Zuo Ying nodded seriously.
The two of them had a lesson on pregnancy at Ming's house, and only left when it was getting dark outside.
Mingxi and Zhao Sulan saw the two off. Although Zuo Ying was not yet showing her pregnancy, Du Hai still held Zuo Ying in his arms as carefully as if she were porcelain, and helped her leave slowly.
Once the two figures disappeared at the alley entrance, Mingxi exclaimed, "That was fast!"
Du Hai and Zuo Ying held their wedding on May Day, and it's only been three months since then, and Zuo Ying is already pregnant. It's really fast.
Zhao Sulan, however, glanced at Mingxi with an unsurprised expression: "This is nothing fast. Young people are healthy, and many find out they are pregnant in the second month after marriage."
She said, "The eldest son of that family in the alley, the one who went to join the army, he came back on leave the year before last to get married. He left the day after the wedding, and his wife found out she was pregnant the following month."
Zhao Sulan remarked with great emotion, "No wonder they're soldiers, they're in such good health."
Mingxi felt like a dirty little train was driving past her face.
There have been quite a few happy events lately. The day after Du Hai and Zuo Ying came to deliver the good news, Huang Pingping arrived, beaming with joy as she shared the good news with Mingxi.
"Our family's Wu Zhensheng has been promoted!"
Mingxi: "Huh? This is great news!"
Huang Pingping nodded proudly, as if she herself had been promoted, not Wu Zhensheng.
“The machine factory held a grading exam last month. Normally, apprentices like him shouldn’t be allowed to take the exam, but his master thought highly of him and said he could try it out. So they made an exception and let him take the exam, and he actually passed. Now he’s a full-fledged first-level worker.”
Huang Pingping stood with her hands on her hips, quite smugly: "As expected of the man I chose, he's really something."
Mingxi laughed and teased, "Yes, yes, no wonder he's the man you took a liking to at first sight."
She certainly fell in love at first sight; she still remembered how Huang Pingping had stared blankly at Wu Zhensheng's photo.
Huang Pingping nodded subconsciously, but when she realized that Mingxi was teasing her, she blushed and punched Mingxi's arm with her fist: "Oh, so you're making fun of me again!"
Huang Pingping didn't use much force; her fist landed on Mingxi, which was more like a massage than a punch.
But Mingxi still pretended to be in pain and begged for mercy: "Okay, okay, I won't say it, I won't say it, please let me go."
Huang Pingping: "Hmph!"
Huang Pingping hadn't been to the Ming family for a long time, and she talked to Ming Xi non-stop. She didn't treat herself as an outsider and had dinner at Ming Xi's house that night, eating and drinking her fill before leaving.
Not long after Huang Pingping left, Guan Lixin arrived again.
This guy also had a happy look on his face.
Mingxi knew immediately that something good was going to happen. She asked, "What's making you so happy? Is business exceptionally good this time?"
Guan Lixin sat down by himself and said, "Business is good, but I didn't come here today to talk about that."
Mingxi: "Then why?"
Guan Lixin chuckled and said, "I've transferred He Li's job to the city. She'll be a teacher at the primary school in our steel rolling mill. We'll complete the formalities in a few days."
He's been acting all mysterious lately; that's what he's been doing.
He Li is currently teaching at the village primary school. After she marries Guan Lixin in September, she will definitely move to the city with him and will no longer be able to teach in the village.
Guan Lixin knew that He Li liked children and her job as a teacher. He thought it would be a waste for a high school graduate like her to give up her job and become a full-time housewife.
He arranged other work for He Li, but He Li was not used to it, and he felt sorry for her.
So Guan Lixin has been trying to use his connections to get He Li transferred to teach at a primary school in the city.
He hadn't originally thought he'd be transferred to the steel mill's primary school.
The steel rolling mill was a large factory with tens of thousands of employees, and it was one of the top factories in the northern part of the city. The steel rolling mill primary school was also one of the top schools, and it had no shortage of teachers.
But who would have thought that the husband of a teacher who taught lower grades at the school was transferred to another city for work, and the whole family had to move away. As soon as that teacher left, a vacancy for a Chinese teacher was created at the steel mill primary school.
Guan Lixin was resourceful and righteous, and knew many people from all walks of life. He heard about the incident from his friends immediately, so he put in a lot of effort to find out the principal's preferences and learned that the principal liked antiques.
They brought the antique paintings and other valuable items they had found at Panjiayuan Market to the door.
Guan Lixin's gift was very thoughtful, but the principal of the steel mill primary school was still very responsible. He did not agree to He Li's transfer just because Guan Lixin delivered the gift.
He still had He Li come to the school for a personal interview to confirm that her teaching ability was not a problem before he agreed to the matter.
Guan Lixin didn't explain in detail to Mingxi, only saying that he had used some connections to get He Li an interview at the school, which He Li passed smoothly, so she was able to transfer.
Mingxi wasn't stupid; she knew that it wasn't as simple as just finding some connections. She guessed that Guan Lixin had put in a lot of effort behind the scenes.
However, Guan Lixin's efforts were not in vain.
He Li has now been transferred to the city. Although her salary and benefits remain the same as before, she will be able to join the train for substitute teachers to become public school teachers in less than two years. At that time, her salary and benefits will be upgraded.
Let's talk about the steel mill primary school.
Backed by the steel mill, the primary school of the steel mill has always enjoyed some of the best teacher benefits in the northern part of the city. Even in the early 2000s, when the steel mill and machinery factory were relocated out of the city due to serious pollution problems and moved to the suburbs, the primary school of the steel mill separated from the steel mill. However, due to its excellent students, strong teachers, and outstanding academic achievements, the primary school of the steel mill became a key primary school in the city.
He Li's job as a teacher at the steel mill's primary school is not a loss for her.
Of course, that's all for the future. Mingxi couldn't reveal it to Guan Lixin right now. She just smiled and said, "That's great. He Li is being transferred to work in the city, so you two won't have to be separated anymore."
Guan Lixin chuckled; Mingxi's words had struck a chord with him.
For him, nothing matters as much as not being separated from He Li.
Seeing that everyone had good news, Mingxi's mood improved, and she had a happy look on her face when she went to work the next day.
Unaware of the situation, Yu Xiaomin, seeing Mingxi like this, assumed something had happened to her and curiously came over to inquire, "Oh my, Mingxi, what good thing happened to you?"
Mingxi: "Sigh, what good things could I possibly have to do with it? It's just..."
She was halfway through her sentence when she saw Sister Wang walk in with wide eyes, rushing in like a whirlwind.
Sister Wang arrived at Mingxi and Yu Xiaomin's side like a gust of wind. She covered her mouth with her hand and said mysteriously, "Big news! Qiao Zhenjun has been arrested by the police!"
Mingxi looked completely bewildered.
What big news is this? Wasn't it her who took Qiao Zhenjun to the police station? Sister Wang saw her escorting Qiao Zhenjun to the police station with her own eyes. Why are you so shocked now?
Sister Wang: "Oh, no, I should say, Qiao Zhenjun has been arrested by the police again!"
Mingxi: "Again?"
Sister Wang: "Yes!"
Mingxi then realized that Sister Wang was saying that Qiao Zhenjun had been arrested by the police, not the time when she had taken him to the police station.
Mingxi's gossipy nature kicked in, and she quickly inquired, "What happened? When did this occur?"
"Hey, don't rush, let me tell you slowly." Sister Wang sat down, poured herself a glass of water, and then began to speak.
So that's how it is. Qiao Zhenjun was detained in the police station's interrogation room for a whole day and was only released yesterday. The first thing he did after being released was to go to Wang Zhaodi's parents' house to pick up his son.
While he was away on a business trip, Wang Zhaodi was arrested. With no one to care for him and Wang Zhaodi's son, he went to Wang Zhaodi's parents' home.
When Qiao Zhenjun returned, he didn't even bother to pick up his son; he went straight to find Qiao Aimei. Now that he's been detained at the police station for a day, his mind is clear, and he's behaved himself.
He knew that it was unrealistic to try to force Qiao Aimei to rescue Wang Zhaodi by threatening her, and he might end up going to jail himself.
Compared to himself, his wife Wang Zhaodi was nothing, so he simply gave up on rescuing her.
So this time, after he was released from the police station, he didn't cause any more trouble. He obediently went to Wang Zhaodi's parents' home, intending to bring his son home so that the father and son could live a good life together.
To his surprise, as soon as he arrived at the Wang family home, he saw his eldest son calling a strange man "Dad."
Qiao Zhenjun's face turned green instantly.
In fact, a normal person would be confused if they encountered such a thing, but Qiao Zhenjun was different. When he heard his eldest son shout like that, his paranoia immediately kicked in.
She immediately began to suspect that Wang Zhaodi had cheated on her and that she was raising someone else's son.
Because when Wang Zhaodi married him, it wasn't her first marriage.
Qiao Zhenjun and Wang Zhaodi met through a blind date. During the date, the matchmaker clearly explained that Wang Zhaodi wasn't getting married for the first time; she had a previous husband. However, her husband was a dishonest person who had been involved in speculation and profiteering. After the group was arrested, her husband absconded with the money, which is why Wang Zhaodi went on blind dates.
Qiao Zhenjun himself was also divorced, and Wang Zhaodi was beautiful. He was blinded by lust and didn't care about the fact that Wang Zhaodi was a divorcee.
Wang Zhaodi found out she was pregnant in the second month of their marriage, and the child was born in the ninth month of their marriage.
Wang Zhaodi had previously said that there are many women who give birth prematurely, so it's fine to give birth earlier as long as the child is healthy.
He didn't think much of it. Seeing that his eldest son, despite being premature, was healthy and ate well, he thought it was because he was capable and had good genes.
Now that I think about it, what's capable and what's good is the seed.
Damn it, he's clearly a cuckold, raising someone else's son for over ten years!
Upon realizing this, Qiao Zhenjun was instantly filled with rage. He grabbed a brick from the side, rushed forward, and smashed it into the man's head, cracking his skull open.
He originally intended to harm his eldest son, but was stopped by the other members of the Wang family who realized something was wrong.
In broad daylight, the Wang family witnessed Qiao Zhenjun cracking someone's skull open; how could they not report it to the police? And so, Qiao Zhenjun, who had just been released from the police station, was arrested again less than two hours later.
Mingxi listened, completely bewildered.
She scratched her head: "So Qiao Zhenjun's son isn't his biological child?"
Sister Wang said firmly, "Yes."
She said, "I asked around, and the man whose head Qiao Zhenjun cracked open was the same man who was in front of Wang Zhaodi. Moreover, that man looks a lot like Qiao Zhenjun's son; they say his eyes and eyebrows are exactly the same."
"Oh right, and most importantly," Sister Wang slapped her thigh, "when that man was taken to the hospital, Qiao Zhenjun's son kept lying next to him calling for his father."
"Tsk tsk tsk."
Mingxi couldn't help but click her tongue: "This kid is such an ingrate. Even if Qiao Zhenjun isn't his biological father, he still raised him for so many years. As soon as his biological father appears, he completely disowns his previous father. It's really..."
She really didn't know how to say it.
Sister Wang: "Hey, you don't understand. This isn't about the gratitude for being born and raised; it's about money!"
Seeing Mingxi and Yu Xiaomin's confused expressions, she quickly explained, "That child's biological father is rich. I heard that he ran away with the money and did speculative business in another city. He's made a fortune over the years, but it's a pity he never had any children. He came back this time to find his only son."
Mingxi: "No wonder."
She also said that it was impossible to have such deep feelings for a biological father whom she had never met; it turned out that he only cared about money.
Mingxi: "What about Qiao Zhenjun's son's biological father? How is he now?"
Sister Wang pursed her lips: "It's probably not going to be good. The situation isn't optimistic. The neighbors all said that when the person collapsed, he bled profusely. He was rushed to the hospital and immediately put on the operating table for emergency treatment, but he hasn't woken up yet."
"Qiao Zhenjun is finished this time."
Given the severity of the injuries, Qiao Zhenjun will at least face charges of intentional assault. If the victim remains unconscious or dies, Qiao Zhenjun will be charged with intentional homicide, facing at least ten years of labor reform.
Mingxi: "He deserved it."
Mingxi didn't think Qiao Zhenjun was innocent at all.
Although Wang Zhaodi deceived him into becoming a sucker and raising someone else's child, Qiao Zhenjun would not have fallen into Wang Zhaodi's trap if he hadn't been blinded by lust.
Besides, he intentionally injured someone; it's not like someone shoved a brick into his hand or dragged him to hit someone. He acted impulsively, and now that he's injured someone and been arrested by the police, he deserves it.
Mingxi thought it was Qiao Zhenjun's retribution. Who told him to not take Qiao Aimei, his biological daughter, seriously? Now that he found out that the son he had cherished for more than ten years was not his biological son, it was also retribution.
Mingxi and the other two chatted and gossiped in the office for a long time. After they finished gossiping, Mingxi realized a key issue.
"Sister Wang, does Aimei know about this?"
Sister Wang pursed her lips: "This... they probably don't know yet."
She only heard about this because she lived near Wang Zhaodi's family home.
Qiao Aimei lives and eats at the Women's Federation and doesn't interact with outsiders, so she probably doesn't know about this.
Mingxi: "Shouldn't we tell her?"
Regardless, Qiao Zhenjun is Qiao Aimei's father after all. With such a big incident happening and him being arrested by the police, shouldn't he at least tell Qiao Aimei?
Sister Wang hesitated for a moment: "Yes, we should say something."
But then again, Qiao Aimei has finally gotten rid of all the mess at home and stopped caring about Qiao Zhenjun. If they talk to her about this now, won't they just upset her?
Mingxi and Sister Wang are both straightforward people, and it's rare for them to be so long-winded.
The two hesitated for a long time before Mingxi finally went to Qiao Aimei and told her about it.
After hearing this, Qiao Aimei stared in shock for a long time before she could react.
What?! Her younger brother isn't her father's biological son?!
Her father beat her younger brother's biological father so badly that he was hospitalized and hasn't woken up yet?!
Her father has been arrested by the police and will be in jail for the rest of his life?!
Qiao Aimei was in a daze for a long time, feeling that these words were like a book written in heaven, and she couldn't understand them at all.
How could her brother not be her biological son? Before, at home, she always heard her father say that her brother's personality was just like his, exactly the same as his.
Mingxi: "Anyway, you should be mentally prepared. Your dad is definitely going to jail this time. It's just a matter of how long or short it is. The police will definitely come looking for you then."
Qiao Aimei nodded absentmindedly.
