Chapter 25: Parallelism is a good lesson
After turning on the lights, Qin Yinghuai almost fled.
Ji Shian was left alone, sitting on the bed in a daze. She sighed to the system, "Brother Huai must have done very well in the 50-meter sprint." His speed was comparable to that of a Tibetan antelope.
System: [As long as you are happy.]
In his study, Qin Yinghuai slowly exhaled, opened the window, and let the cool breeze hit him. Once his mind had calmed down a bit, he turned on his phone and saw a string of missed calls. He tapped his finger to return the call, and it quickly connected.
"Ying Huai, why did you turn off your phone on the weekend?" Ms. Ji Dongran's charming voice was full of confusion.
Qin Yinghuai loosened his collar and said a few words casually, then asked, "What do you want?"
He sounded a bit impatient. Ji Dongran blinked, keenly aware of his son's annoyance, and said calmly, "Nothing. Your grandfather just urged your father and me to go back a while ago. He briefly mentioned what Xingzhi had encountered."
Previously, Old Master Qin asked Qin Yinghuai to tell the couple who were traveling around the world. Qin Yinghuai knew that it was useless for them to come back and it would be safer for them to stay away and continue to play outside, so he pretended to obey and dealt with it in a disobedient way.
It seemed that the old man was still worried. He said, "I will take the time to spend more time with Grandpa."
Ji Dongran: "That's not necessary. Your grandfather told you to go home less often if you have nothing to do. Oh, and also to work less overtime and go to parks and amusement parks, places frequented by young people."
Qin Yinghuai understood his grandfather's meaning after a brief thought and ignored his mother's temptation. "We will handle Zhou Xingzhi's matter. Although Uncle Zhou is retired, his skills when he was young were comparable to Dad's." So there is no need to worry about Zhou Xingzhi's life or death. He and Ji Shian have a backup.
Thinking of Ji Shian, he was slightly distracted, and he didn't hear anything Ji Dongran said.
Ji Dongran listened to the occasional "hmm" from the other end of the phone and twitched his lips: "You don't have to be so perfunctory."
Qin Yinghuai explained seriously, "You're overthinking it. Stop listening to those random rumors. They're all just figments of your imagination."
Then he heard a deafening voice in his ears, "Brother Huai..."
Qin Yinghuai responded subconsciously. Ji Dongran's eyes widened in shock, and he covered his mouth. Then he said mysteriously, "I've heard too much."
"It's okay, mom won't disturb you on your date. Turn off your phone and enjoy your happy time. Hehehehe~"
Before Qin Yinghuai could react and explain, Ji Dongran finished speaking quickly and hung up the phone. He turned his head and looked at Qin Yucheng with sparkling eyes, "Husband~ We are going to have a daughter-in-law~"
Qin Yucheng put down the magazine in his hand and pushed up his glasses. "Is there a misunderstanding?" Considering his son's workaholic nature, he rationally speculated, "Maybe he's working with his subordinates."
Ji Dongran narrowed his eyes and asked, "Do you turn off your phone when you're working with your subordinates?"
Qin Yucheng immediately sat up straight: "Of course not."
Ji Dongran crossed his arms and asked, "Will your subordinates draw out their voices and call you Brother Yucheng?"
Qin Yucheng waved his hands in fear: "That's impossible, wife!"
This is probably how the rumor was born. It is pronounced as Huai Ge and heard as Ying Huai Ge Ge.
Ji Dongran pushed away her husband's hand that was tapping her shoulder ingratiatingly and rushed to the bedroom. Qin Yucheng was startled, "Wife, in broad daylight..." This is not good.
Before he could finish his words, he heard Ji Dongran shouting at him to pack his luggage, saying that she would be returning home tomorrow, and then she would secretly take a look at her new daughter-in-law.
She knew with her toes that her unlucky son would not agree to her traveling thousands of miles to meet his daughter-in-law. After all, Old Man Qin said that Qin Yinghuai had not been won over yet.
Alas. Ji Dongran put her hands on her hips with a gloomy face. She didn't know if her daughter-in-law paid attention to the entertainment industry. If she liked her, she might even give some points to that brat Qin Yinghuai.
Qin Yucheng put his hands behind his back and shook his head regretfully, feeling sorry for the end of his sweet journey. Before Ji Dongran could get anxious, he slipped to the suitcase to move his clothes.
Yun City, Qin Yinghuai's bedroom.
Ji Shian picked up the chain at his feet with an expressionless face, and Qin Yinghuai took out the key from his pocket apologetically to unlock it for him.
He was very positive in admitting his mistakes. Looking at the newly arrived red envelope, Ji Shian magnanimously forgave the other party, saying, "That's not good. I didn't do anything. It's like we're doing some shady deal."
"You deserve it." Qin Yinghuai lowered his eyes and swiftly put away the tangled chains. "What would you like to eat tonight?"
Ji Shian pursed his lips and said, "I won't bother Brother Huai tonight. It's a rare holiday, boss, have a good rest."
Qin Yinghuai paused in his movement of turning around, glanced at the drooping head inconspicuously, hummed, and strode out of the room, looking no different from usual.
But the contrast with his fleeing figure when the lights were turned on was too stark, and Ji Shian couldn't ignore it. Worried, she returned upstairs and called the system to inquire about the number of similar scenes.
[Similar plots can be done only once, the system will automatically copy and paste.] The system felt a little regretful, what a good opportunity for contact.
The huge rock in Ji Shian's heart slowly moved away, his shoulders slumped slightly, he uttered a sound, and curled up on the sofa, withdrawing into himself.
The system noticed that the person was not in a good state, and tried a few times but got no response. It lit a candle for Qin Yinghuai in its heart, and silently retreated into its mind to read its own comics.
Ji Shian's eyes widened, and he was completely devastated. He was worried about his job, his life, and his head was full of random thoughts. Finally, the knock on the door pulled him out of his chaotic thoughts.
She walked to the door, only to see a familiar figure flash by through the peephole. When she opened the door, there was a hot dinner on the floor. It was from her favorite private Chinese restaurant, and there was no takeout.
She sighed and shoveled the food into her arms, and the clouds of sorrow that had just dispersed showed signs of gathering again.
Even the dumbest system could tell the host had realized something. "Qin Yinghuai is rich and handsome. Although he's a few years older than you, he's not too old to be with." Why did her host look like the sky was falling?
Ji Shian smiled bitterly: "You don't understand."
It is difficult for workers to fall in love, let alone with their boss.
You tell me how to handle this. If I refuse, I won't get promoted anymore, and my career will be ruined if I get tired of you. If I agree, if something unexpected happens in the relationship, my career will continue to be ruined if I get tired of you.
Clearly, things were just beginning to show signs of happening, but after analyzing it mentally, she felt like she was about to lose everything.
The system pondered: [Is it so exaggerated?] And isn't the most important thing whether you like it or not?
Ji Shi'an turned his grief and anger into appetite, and grabbed the chicken leg in one bite.
"That's not what I mean. So what if I like you, so what if I don't. We are not from the same world." Ji Shian has always had a very clear understanding of himself.
Her personal abilities are indeed impressive. After all, looking around, there may not be many people in the whole country who can achieve such a status at such a young age.
She was beautiful, and her face had garnered countless affection since she was young. Many people, either out of kindness or because they admired her intelligence, had expressed their desire to adopt her. But Ji Shianan refused every offer.
She had no interest in trying to integrate into a family with which she had no connection, even though she would occasionally envy her friends who had healthy families.
She actually has no memory of her biological parents. Some say that she was abandoned by her parents, some say that she was lost accidentally, and some say that she was abducted by traffickers but was lucky enough to be sent to an orphanage.
Memories of childhood are quite vague. Even if Ji Shian has a photographic memory, he cannot count every single thing that happened in his infancy.
Listening to her analysis, completely unaware that her thoughts were about to stray again, the system felt that it had figured it out and secretly agreed: [Host, you are right. You two are not from the same world.]
Ji Shian's long eyelashes trembled slightly, hiding the emotions in his eyes, and he heard the sincere voice of the system: [You are so good, Qin Yinghuai is not worthy of you.]
The feeling of being denied was interrupted unexpectedly. Ji Shian: "Huh?"
System: [You are thoughtful and considerate, even taking into account the preferences of an unexpected guest like me; you are gentle and considerate, silently taking on extra work whenever Su Qi is on her period; you are quick-witted, able to adapt flexibly to Li Hanfeng's various impulsive actions; you are exceptionally capable, offering refreshing perspectives on various difficult projects.]
The system changes its perspective and analyzes another protagonist.
Qin Yinghuai is mature and steady at work, but you have that in mind; he's emotionally stable in private, but you also have that in mind; he's six years older than you, so when you were in first grade, he was already in middle school; a grown man likes to secretly drink milk tea, which is so childish; he's so hesitant and hesitant when completing a task, which is not manly at all.
The system concluded with a resounding clasp of its hands.
[You have everything he has, and you also have things he doesn't have (like me). You deserve better!]
Ji Shian was in a daze, feeling that he had so much to say but had no words to complain about. All the complaints passed through his mind without leaving a trace. Finally, he said, "You are good at learning parallelism."
[Thank you~] The system bows humbly.
"No." Ji Shian closed his eyes, trying to reverse the system's stereotype of Qin Yinghuai.
"When he was my age, he had already consolidated all of Chengyue's scattered powers and successfully secured his position as chairman."
The system disdains: [That’s it?]
"What's wrong with liking milk tea? This contrast is quite cute. I'm an old professor and I still like sweets. Gender discrimination is unacceptable."
System: [so?]
"Don't be fooled by how easy he seems to be to talk to when he's with me. He's well-educated and has his own principles when dealing with people."
System: [Oh.]
"When he hesitates to complete tasks, it's because he's afraid I'll feel uncomfortable. He always thinks I'll suffer a loss. But he actually respects my wishes."
The system was convinced: [After all that, you think quite highly of him.]
Ji Shian nodded as a matter of course: "Of course, if he wasn't a good guy, I would have left long ago."
The world is so big and she is so awesome, why should she serve like a slave for a piece of shit that has no eyes and no nose?
She said confidently: "As long as I want, I can make it anywhere."
The system was puzzled: [Then why were you so disgusted after you realized he had feelings for you?]
Ji Shian cleaned up the table and said softly after a while: "It's because he is too good that I worry about the future." It is so easy for lovers to quarrel, but it is much simpler to be friends.
Everyone will not make excessive demands on each other, will not uncontrollably look at each other with a critical eye, and will not lose themselves and the direction of life because of being caught in an emotional whirlpool.
She arched her eyebrows and said the coldest words in the gentlest tone, "It's fine like this now."
I thought to myself, I have always felt that I have seen this line before. It seems to be a classic line from the hero in the novel "Chasing Wife at the Crematorium" that my friend has collected.
Hiss, so exciting.
