Chapter 100 The truth behind the murder

Chapter 100 The truth behind the murder

"Sister Ida left the orphanage and didn't know where to go," said Sewell.

"I don't remember this at all. Does that mean we changed the past?" said Darien.

"Not necessarily. If you changed the past, it would be more appropriate for you to create an extra memory out of thin air," said Sewell.

"But I really can't remember what I was doing during those days." Darien frowned.

"We'll know if we go and take a look," said Sewell. "We can also follow Sister Ada and take a look."

"Let's follow Mother Ada first and let your crow keep an eye on the orphanage." Darien made the decision immediately.

Mother Ada had just boarded the carriage, so it was still in time to catch up. Darien drank a bottle of transformation potion and flew after her with Sewell, who had turned into a crow.

They didn't chase for long, as the carriage was not moving very fast. Darien and Sevier quickly flew to the top of the carriage with the help of the wind and squatted on it to hitchhike.

Mother Ada's carriage went very far, farther than Darien had expected.

The carriage stopped once for dinner and accommodation. Lunch was eaten in the carriage, which made Darien and Sevier very hungry.

When the carriage stopped, they quickly flew to the corner and turned back into human form. They ordered a table full of dishes, but they didn't eat much because they were too hungry.

Darien was utterly frustrated. "Where on earth is Mother Ada going? Why is it taking so long? If it takes another two or three days, we'll be hungry and hungry along the way."

Sewell said, "We can buy some slightly tastier dry food to eat on the road."

Darien said, "That sounds terrible. How could we be so miserable?"

Sewell thought for a moment and said, "This is probably the price of changing the past."

Darien's face fell.

After a day and night of bumpy ride, the carriage carrying Ada's mother finally stopped in the next town.

This town was larger and more prosperous than the one where the orphanage was located. Darien was very familiar with this place. He was adopted here and lived here until he became an adult.

He became a little confused.

Mother Ada changed out of her nun's attire in the hotel and put on a dress of good quality. Still with her face covered, she got into a carriage with the family emblem on it.

It turns out that Mother Ada is a lady of respectability, Darien thought.

The carriage with the family crest drove into a tall and magnificent mansion. Mother Ada sneaked in through the side door. Darien and Sevier turned into two smaller blue tits and landed openly on the windowsill of the room where Mother Ada entered.

The window was open, and they could clearly hear the voices inside.

Sitting on the sofa was a white-haired old man. Ada's mother walked over and called him, "Father, you received my letter, right? Can you believe it? Lord Liam has granted me a miracle."

Ida's mother's father was called Ralph, a minor nobleman. He asked Ida's mother to sit next to him and said, "Ida, take off your veil so that I can take a good look at it."

Mother Ada obediently took off her veil and raised her face to show Ralph: "Don't I look like my mother and my sisters? I have thought about it many times since I was a child. I think I should have a face like this."

Ralph put on his unilateral eyeglasses and looked carefully at Ada's mother's new face for a long time. "It is indeed very similar. I never thought that Lord Liam's miracle would happen to our family."

Mother Ada said, "I am very grateful to Lord Liam, and I am willing to always dedicate my piety to Lord Liam."

Ralph said, "Ida, you should come home. Don't be a nun in that little place anymore. I've been telling people that you're not in good health and that you're living in a spa. Come home and I'll call your sisters back to give you a dance."

When Darien heard this, he thought that Mother Ada would not agree. She loved the children in the orphanage very much and had told him many times when he was alone that her love and hope were all on the children.

Ada's mother said, "Yes, I am looking forward to that day. I have been looking forward to it for a long time. I will be able to dance at the ball like my sisters."

Darien's heart sank little by little.

He couldn't help but sigh in his heart, but after thinking about it carefully, he felt that Ada's mother's decision was normal. She was originally a noble lady living in a wealthy family. She became a nun in an orphanage only because of her appearance. Now the decision she made was just to return to the life she should have lived.

There was nothing more interesting to hear, so he and Sewell should leave here.

"Ida, tell me, how did the gods talk to you and how did they fulfill your wish?" Ralph said.

"That night I prayed in front of the statue, and the god suddenly told me that he felt my piety, so he decided to favor me..." Mother Ada carefully told her father Ralph everything that happened in those two days.

Darien was just about to flap his wings when Sevier followed behind him. When he heard them mention the god Liam again, Darien suddenly closed his wings.

Seville, who was behind him, spread his wings and flew forward, but before he could retract them, he knocked down the bird in front of him.

Darien flew back to the windowsill in frustration and pecked Sevier's head fiercely.

Inside the house, Ralph said, "Since Lord Liam possessed the statue in the orphanage's prayer room, the statue should be returned. You also said that a child heard your conversation when the god appeared?"

Mama Ada replied, "Yes, his name is Darien."

Ralph asked again, "Did you hear anything unusual while you were there? Any strange sightings or people?"

Mother Ada thought for a moment and said, "Outside the fence of the orphanage, there's a magician who's always performing for the children. The children say he can do anything. He can make roses appear from flames, turn stones into candies, and some even say he can transform into all kinds of animals... I haven't heard anything else."

Ralph smiled and said, "Good boy, go back to your room and take a look. Even though you haven't lived there for a long time, it's still decorated the way you like it."

Mother Ada left happily.

Darien and Sevier did not leave, but continued to stare at Ralph.

Ralph worked on some papers in the study for a while, then rang the bell for the servant, who took a wax-stamped letter and hurried outside.

Darien pecked Sewell and told him to ask his fellow crows to help keep an eye on where the servant was going.

They should continue to stay here, he had a hunch that Ralph would do something else.

Not long after, the crow came back and called a few times to Sevier, who turned around and called a few times to Darien.

Darien didn't understand, so he pecked Sevier angrily.

They found a corner to sneak around, and Seville told Darien that Ralph had sent a letter to another small nobleman, who was coming in a carriage.

Sure enough, not long after, there was another person in Ralph's study.

As soon as they met, Ralph smiled and patted the man on the shoulder: "You are finally here, brother Reuben. You have read the letter. There is a magician in Fitz who can grant people's wishes."

Reuben, who was patted on the shoulder, said, "How can you be sure that he is a magician who can grant wishes? What if he is just a devil who buys and sells souls?"

Ralph said, "It's up to us to decide whether he's a magician or a devil. As long as he helps us fulfill our wishes, he's not a devil. If he doesn't, isn't burning the devil with fire our specialty?"

Reuben said, "Old Ralph, you're still the same as before. But didn't you say that there would be retribution for doing something like this? Your little daughter Ada, others may not know, but I do. We impersonated Lord Liam so many times back then, and it was us who created that name. Aren't you afraid now?"

Ralph said, "What's there to be afraid of? As long as you gain enough, losing a little is nothing."

Darien listened to the conversation on the windowsill and just wanted to fly in and peck the two bastards to death.

He suppressed his emotions and continued to listen, then he found that these two guys were simple and rough. The core of their plan was to secretly find a magician to negotiate terms. If the negotiation failed, they would join forces with the church to carry out some witch-hunting activities.

It turned out that he was almost killed by these two stupid guys. There was nothing good to hear next. He flew back first and made some preparations in advance.

The journey back was quite long, and Darien was too tired to fly after flying for only half a day. He turned into a little bird, clinging tightly to Sevier's back, and fell asleep in a daze while flying.

When he woke up, he was already in his bed at home.

He quickly jumped out of bed and ran downstairs to find Sewell, only to see the colorful Julian in the small living room.

"Why are you here?" Darien stared at Julian.

"I haven't asked you yet, why did you suddenly bring me here?" Julian asked back.

"Sevier, where are you?" Darien didn't answer him, but quickly grabbed Sevier to get a unified statement.

"I'm here. I just invited Mr. Julian to visit us," said Sewell.

"Give him some tea and snacks, and then come back. Julian, we'll be gone for a moment," said Darien.

"What are you doing? You're so mysterious and weird." Julian looked at them with confusion.

"I just want to treat you to a meal, and I have something to tell you." Darien said.

Sewell quickly brought tea and snacks to the kitchen, then went upstairs to talk with Darien.

"Why did you bring Julian in directly? We haven't come up with a solution yet." said Darien.

"We don't have much time left. Ralph and Reuben set out only one day later than us and can arrive tomorrow afternoon at the earliest. So I want to find Julian first. At least they can't find him before we come up with a solution." said Sevier.

"That's a solution, but how should we tell it? Should we just tell Julian that someone wants to help him fulfill a wish? But he won't do that," said Darien.

"Indeed, I can't. But..." Sewell leaned over and whispered.
