Chapter 103 Admonition Please help adopt a child
The stake was certainly not ready that quickly.
In order to further prove that the magician they caught really summoned the devil, they had to conduct some interrogation.
The town's church is honored to have Baron Ralph and Sir Reuben as witnesses to the trial. They will observe the entire process and influence the final verdict.
To put it more simply, it's a behind-the-scenes operation, with arbitrary convictions, unless...
Unless Sewell promised to grant them their wishes through magic, they would declare him innocent on the spot.
Otherwise, not only would he be burned at the stake, but the child in the orphanage would also be killed.
Ralph sneered. Since he refused to fulfill their wish, the child who heard the conversation between Ada and the "God" would have to be burned at the stake with them.
Seville had no intention of surrendering, and that was certainly not part of their plan.
Ralph and Reuben whipped him a few times to vent their anger, and then when he was going out and down the stairs, he suddenly felt a pain on the back of his head and was knocked down several steps with a bang.
I was so dizzy and seeing stars after the fall, I finally got up and looked behind me, but there was no one there.
Darien threw the stick in his hand and sneered cruelly.
It was a terrifying sight for Ralph and Reuben. A stick flew out of nowhere and knocked them both down. Then a sneer disappeared into the air.
"Devil! It's definitely the devil!" Ralph shouted.
"And the sons of the devil! They must all be sent to the stake! We can never tolerate the devil spreading in this city!" Reuben also shouted.
The church members behind them witnessed their miserable condition with their own eyes, and became more convinced that the imprisoned magician had summoned the devil.
Their slander was successful.
Two days later, a burning at the stake will be held in the square. The victims to be executed are an evil magician who summoned the devil and an orphan who was possessed by the devil's son.
The church members broke into the orphanage during the day and accurately captured little Darien in front of Mother Teresa and many other children.
"You can't just take the children from the orphanage like this!" Mother Teresa stopped them sternly.
"Sister, we are just doing our job. You have to know that he is the devil's child," said the church member.
"I had no idea such blasphemous acts had ever occurred in the orphanage under my charge." Mother Teresa glared at them.
"Of course you don't know. You don't know that the magician who often performs outside the courtyard has summoned the devil, right?" The church member sneered.
"Julian? It's impossible. He clearly... When did you kidnap him?" Sister Teresa said hurriedly.
"Two days ago," the church member replied. "Well, I've answered enough of your questions, considering we serve the gods together. Now get out of the way, or you'll be counted as part of summoning the devil, too."
They knew very well that it was a deal between the two nobles and the bishop and had nothing to do with the devil. Capturing one more nun would do them no good at all.
Mother Teresa was swept to the other side, and the group of church members picked up the skinny child and left.
After they left, Mother Teresa hurried back to the house, rummaged through the drawers and found a set of clothes to change into, then wrapped herself in a veil. Her outfit made her look like an ordinary woman.
Mother Teresa went out of the side door of the orphanage, covered her face, walked to the door of the house at the bridge end and knocked twice.
The one who opened the door was the handsome Julian.
"Mother Teresa? Why are you here?" There was a look of surprise on his face.
"Are you Julian?" The first sentence Sister Teresa said after entering the room drenched Julian.
"Of course I am. Is someone impersonating me?" Julian said a little frustrated.
"Someone from the church just came and said they caught a magician who summoned demons, and that the magician performed outside the orphanage every morning," said Mother Teresa.
"Oh my God, so this is why they didn't let me go to the market these days. They just told me that I would know when the time comes," said Julian.
"So what's going on?" Mother Teresa said.
"Nothing, I just have something to ask of you." Darien pushed the door open and walked in.
"Who are you?" Mother Teresa looked alert.
"I'm a magician from another town." Darien didn't say much.
"So you're the one who summoned the devil, right?" Sister Teresa narrowed her eyes.
"No one summoned the devil at all. This is just what Ralph and Reuben said. What they really want is a magician who can fulfill all their wishes. They want youth, they want a stronger body, they want more and more." Darian said.
"Sister Teresa, I agree with him. They want to catch me, but I really don't know magic. I just know some ordinary tricks, and I learned them to attract your attention." Julian scratched his head.
"So that's who they took," said Mother Teresa.
"He's my lover," Darien said. "Well, I haven't even told you what I want to ask you, Sister Teresa. Do you like Julian?"
"Does this have anything to do with asking us for a favor?" Mother Teresa felt offended.
But she blushed.
"No, I just wanted to ask," Darien said. "This orphanage probably won't be able to continue operating here. After all, there's a child of the devil inside. Now that the church has confirmed it's here, people won't adopt children here anymore. Do you still want to continue being a nun? If so, you can go to another town. If not, this is the right time to leave."
"But what about the children?" Mother Teresa did not answer this question first, but asked another one.
"We will be responsible for sending them to other orphanages and will not let them suffer from starvation," said Darien.
"Okay, I'm fine. I can agree to your request for Julian and me." Sister Teresa nodded.
"Wait, I have a question. Does this mean you're promising me?" Julian said.
“We can talk about this later,” Mother Teresa said. “There’ll be plenty of time to tell you later.”
"Ah? Does this mean you agree?" Julian asked.
"Please listen to me. I want to pay you enough money to sponsor a child to go to school. You know this child, little Darien who was just taken away." Darien said.
"I can agree to this request." Sister Teresa nodded. "I'm very happy to hear that you're willing to rescue this child and sponsor his education. Do we need to show up? Julian and I don't seem to be very available."
"You don't need to worry too much about this. You just need to sponsor this child anonymously. You don't need to take care of him on a daily basis. I think he is very suitable to be a magic apprentice, so send him to be a magic apprentice." Darien said.
"That's quite easy. Theresa, how about we go to the next town? It's far away from here, no one will know us there, and we can start a new life." Julian said.
"That's a good idea," Theresa admitted.
She was not that devout, and it was not difficult for her to give up her identity as a nun.
"There's still one day left before the execution. You can go to the next town now. The child will be there in two days," said Darien.
"Can I go home now? All my things are there," Julian said.
"Are you kidding me?" Darien glanced at him. "If you go into that house now, you'll be considered an accomplice of the devil. Your neighbors are watching you."
At this point, everything was settled. Julian followed Mother Teresa back to the monastery to pack their luggage, and they set off an hour later.
"Everything is going well, right, Darien?" Leon said.
He was quiet for several days and witnessed everything that happened in the living room.
"Yes, everything went well. We just need to spend a few more days here and then we can go back." said Darien.
"It's been so difficult, and so painful for you, especially Darian, to remember and be involved in these things again," Lyon said.
"You're only partially right. The pain is there, but I've figured out a lot of things, and this small part can offset most of the pain." Darian said, "It also allows me to see more things. Okay, let's stop here. I have more important things to do."
"Good luck to you. Remember to say hello to Seville for me. I haven't seen him for several days. I'm really worried about him." Lyon said.
Darien nodded, turned and headed up the stairs, quickly disappearing down them.
He clearly remembered the bloody rain that extinguished the fire and melted the crowd of onlookers. Those who were not melted fled in all directions, and the scene was extremely chaotic.
This bloody rain, like a divine punishment from heaven, can be caused by a potion, which has a very appropriate name called Admonition. It can sense the degree of malice and burn people's skin. If they are evil enough, they will melt under the effect of the potion.
Darien prepared the potion and waited for the day of the burning.
In the small town jail, Sevier and little Darien were imprisoned together.
Little Darien was terrified. He was not very old, but not very young either. He was old enough to understand many words and things.
He knew that he was captured because the magician in front of him summoned a demon, and the summoned demon possessed his body...
He didn't believe it. He had never seen a devil before. The closest contact between him and the magician was taking a candy from his hand.
The candy was very sweet, and he kept it in his pocket with great care. He would only take it out and touch it on his tongue after he had forgotten its sweetness.
"Don't worry, it will be over soon." The magician who smelled of blood comforted him.
Little Darien remained silent. The two of them were not very familiar with each other, so he didn't want to talk to him at this moment.
Sewell was not surprised by this reaction, because that was how little Darien was when he saw him in the orphanage, always alert.
He had been here for a long time and missed Darien.
