Chapter 13 The Thief He is the Man Who Wants to Be the King of Thieves
There were too many things to deal with, so Darian didn't feel comfortable standing by and watching, so he came to help cut the fruit.
I started eating while cutting it.
The apples just picked from the tree were sweet and crispy, and they made a crackling sound in the mouth. Darien ate and cut at the same time, and half of the apple was missing on the chopping board.
"We should make some apple juice." Darien licked the apple juice that flowed down his fingers to his wrist.
"We just happen to have enough apples. Do you want to drink now?" asked Sewell.
"Hmm. Drink it at lunch," Darien said.
The chopped apple pieces and lemon slices were put into two pots respectively, boiled for a while, and then the juice was filtered out.
Add sugar to lemon juice and apple juice and continue to boil. After boiling for a while, bottle and cool them. They will solidify into a jelly-like state, which is as beautiful as the translucent body of a jellyfish.
The breads are all in the oven. The small doughs expand rapidly. The aroma of wheat flour wafts out from the cracks in the oven, mixing with the smell of jam to form delicious sweet jam bread.
Darien took a spoonful of jam and felt a little sour from the lemon taste, but soon the sweetness returned to his tongue. The gelatinous texture of the jam would definitely taste even better when spread on the soft bread.
"Sevier, come with me to the alchemy room. I've thought of making some new potions with different flavors." He put down the spoon and said happily.
"Okay, master." Sewell took off his apron, smoothed it out and hung it back on the rack.
Mr. Wizard is familiar with the taste of various potions because he has the courage to test poisons on himself, and he can't help but eat them if he comes across something delicious.
The situation improved a little after Sewell came to the tower. It was not because he could control Darien, but because he would grow whatever he liked to eat, and naturally he would lose interest when he got tired of it.
"Wild berry powder, blue apatite, golden beeswax wax, and coral grass root." Darien lit the topaz base.
Xavier fumbled in the potion cabinet for a moment, then placed several small bottles on the table.
"Amber grass juice and calamus powder." Darien poured half a bottle of white wine into the crucible as the base liquid.
Seville found all the necessary materials and weighed the corresponding weights according to Darian's requirements.
Darien really doesn't like to be disturbed when he is making potions. Even Pluto knows that when Mr. Wizard is making potions, he should stay on the bookshelf and pretend to be a book.
So apart from the sound of him asking for various materials, the only sound in the alchemy room was the collision of various utensils.
One drop, two drops.
Darien concentrated on dripping the ambergrass juice into the crucible.
“Bang, bang—”
The door of the alchemy room was suddenly knocked.
BANG! A purple mushroom cloud exploded from the crucible, almost hitting Darien in the face.
Mr. Wizard jumped up with a roar, like a cat with its fur standing on end after its tail was stepped on.
Sewell opened the door expressionlessly, and there was only an empty staircase outside.
Then a scream came from the kitchen: "Ah! There's a thief! All the bread and jam are gone! And the roast duck! Did they all grow wings and fly away?"
"When I catch the thief, I'm going to tear his head off and make it into a wine glass." Darien sneered.
Pluto, who was huddled on the bookshelf due to the cold, flew to Sewell's face and asked him to wrap him in a book cover.
When he rushed to the kitchen, Mrs. Fitch was jumping up and down, and Fitch was sitting on the rolling pin and sighing.
The kitchen was eerily empty. Not only had the food that had just been cooked disappeared, but even the lemons left in the basket had been taken away. There was nothing edible left; all the food had mysteriously disappeared.
"The technique looks familiar, it's definitely him. Seville, take the rolling pin and let's go to the garden." Darien picked up a baking tray.
In the garden, a hooded man is feeding the pigs.
Around them were scattered food debris: the breast bone of roast duck, the hard edge of bread, the peel of lemon...
Mr. Mage's anger burst out instantly!
Bang!
The baking tray slammed into the hooded man's head, knocking him to the ground.
The spotted pig hummed happily while chewing the bread.
Darien was very unhappy and kicked the person lying on the ground with the tip of his shoe: "Kenneth, stop playing dead and pay me! Otherwise, your pig will be our lunch today."
Kenneth seemed to be knocked unconscious, but in fact he was really dizzy. He rolled and crawled while holding his pig: "Don't hurt my Jenny! I will give you any money you want! As long as you let us go!"
Darien's forehead throbbed: "Sevier, hit him!"
Sewell controlled the strength and made Kenneth, who was holding the pig, jump up with a roar.
Darien charged Kenneth five gold coins as compensation, a small amount because that was all he had.
Darien tutted and waved his hand for Sewell to give Kenneth a broom. "Clean everything up here, then go upstairs. Wipe your pig's hooves and mouth clean before you bring it in."
Kenneth was not angry, but happily took the broom to clean up the mess: "She is not a pig, she has a name, she is Jenny."
Darien ignored him and said to Sewell as they walked: "My jellyfish jam, my bread, all made anew, I want the biggest portion."
Kenneth jumped up and down after them, holding his broom. "No one cares about me? No one welcomes me as a guest?"
Darien ignored this habitual offender.
Kenneth is a thief who often comes to the magic shop to sell stolen goods, but he has a very bad habit of stealing wherever he goes, and the kitchen is the place he often visits.
He also loves to act. Every time he is caught, he feels both pain and joy. Performing a one-sided love story with his pig is his favorite performance.
Mrs. Fitch disliked Kenneth: "Dear Darien, do you know how perfect that roast duck is? When it was just taken out of the oven, it was a beautiful amber honey color all over, and the fat was dripping from the crispy skin..."
Darien stuffed a gold coin into her hand: "This is compensation."
Mrs. Fitch was still unhappy, but her grumbling voice was much softer: "He is really annoying. I wonder if the next roast duck will have such crispy skin..."
They sat down at the same table for lunch later.
Mrs. Fitch roasted a more perfect roast duck, and the lunch was not ruined at last.
"Darian, do you know what good stuff I got? You will never guess!" Kenneth waved his fork excitedly, and the apple on the fork drew several circles in the air.
"I don't know. A jeweled necklace or a jeweled dagger." Darien made a random guess.
"Ahaha! No. Guess what, Mr. Butler." Kenneth said vaguely while chewing an apple.
"Just call me Seville. I guess it's an item containing magic." Seville said.
"You are cheating, the scope is too large. But it is true that I stole a magic clock." Kenneth said.
"What's so special about it? There's one on the wall in the store, and it can talk." Darien had no interest in magic clocks.
"Hehehe, don't be disappointed just yet. It's different from Leon. Its special thing is that it can go back in time." Kenneth's tone rose, and he bet a gold coin that Darien would definitely need it.
"Oh?" Darien was a little interested, but not much. "How do you do that? For example, if I beat you up now and you turn back the clock, it will be back to the way it was before I beat you up, and then I can beat you up again?"
Kenneth covered his head, obviously not wanting to recall the buzzing in his head. "Of course, this magic clock isn't used like that! I can tell you really want to hit me, but don't do it yet. This magic clock is used to rewind the potion in the crucible."
It was hard for Darien not to glare at him. "I never make mistakes when making potions unless someone interrupts me. Why do you think I need this clock?"
Kenneth laughed and changed the subject: "Today's roast duck is so delicious, hahaha!"
Seville said quietly, "Yes, you ate two servings, how can it not be delicious?"
Kenneth shut his mouth completely.
They can finish their meal.
Darien had a duck wing, a bowl of mashed potato salad, and two slices of toast with lemon jam.
The meat on the roast duck wings was very tender, and the skin was roasted to a crispy char, almost connected to the delicate bones, and it crunched when you bite it. There was nothing special about the mashed potatoes. As long as you add enough butter and milk and mash it until it is dense, anyone can make it delicious.
The jellyfish jam and toast that Darian finally ate was not as delicious as he had imagined. The jam was sweet and sour and the bread was fragrant and soft, but maybe because it was past the time when he most wanted to eat it, it was not as tasty as before.
Kenneth's Jenny Pig had a big appetite. As a guest of the tower, she also had a seat next to the dining table. She was happily eating vegetable and fruit salad in a large ceramic bowl.
After lunch they sat at the dining table and drank tea for a while. Sewell disappeared for a short while, and when he reappeared they left the table together and went into the study.
Kenneth took out the magic clock and some other gem dust that could be used as medicine.
"Where did you get this clock?" Darien asked politely.
"In a room in the Ministry of Magic of Filingel, they didn't notice me at all. When they found me, I had already run far away. Hahahaha!" Kenneth was very proud of his superb skills.
His dream is to become a thief king who will be remembered in history, and every thief should stand in awe when hearing his name.
The shell of the magic clock is very beautiful, consisting of two entwined golden snakes and a large bunch of acacia flowers. The snakes' eyes are deep emerald green, with a high enough purity.
Darien tried to adjust the clock hand, which didn't move. "How does it work?"
Kenneth said, "When you start brewing a potion, set all the hands to zero. Then the hands will move on their own, and you can start brewing the potion. If you want all the ingredients to return to their pre-brewing state, just turn the hands back."
Darien turned the clock over and said to him, "It's very simple and clear how to use it. I want to take it apart and see."
Kenneth said, "Will you buy it? How much will you pay?"
Darien said, "50 gold coins."
Kenneth said, "Deal. You also need Jenny to make the shrinking potion. She's a little too big for me to carry around."
Darien nodded. "No problem. Sewell, give him the money, and bring me the toolbox. I need to disassemble this clock."
Sewell first gave Darien a set of small tools, then counted out 50 gold coins from a locked drawer, put them in a small purse and gave them to Kenneth.
Kenneth put it in his arms without even counting. The magic clock would definitely be sold for more than 50 gold coins on the black market, but he was not interested in money. He simply enjoyed the process of stealing.
Darian took apart the back of the clock. In addition to the gears of an ordinary clock, there was a gem with a faint blue watery glow embedded in the middle.
"What is this?" Sewell asked.
Darien said, "This is the Time Stone, a very special and rare mineral. It's said to be born from the tears of Halle, the goddess of time. A piece as small as a thumb can affect the time state of some objects. If there are enough of them, they may be able to reverse the time of a person's life."
Sewell said, "Has anyone tried this before?"
Darien shook his head. "That's just theory. It needs to be combined with runes. This Time Stone has a spell engraved on it, allowing the magic to act on the potion ingredients. Get Kenneth a shrinking potion. He should leave here."
Kenneth scratched his head, hesitated, and said, "Um...can I stay overnight? The situation is a little complicated...I need a place where no one can find me."
This is also the reason why he came to the Magic Shop.
Darien was puzzled. "Normally I would kick you out, but now you can give me a reason why you should stay."
