Chapter 30: A Great Dining Table in the Kitchen
The fat rabbit was bled, skinned, and the internal organs were taken out, and Mrs. Fitch got a shell of fat rabbit meat.
The fluffy rabbit skin is hung aside and can be made into a small plush purse after tanning, or it can be saved to make a whole cushion.
"There are only so few rabbit offal. I want to mince them all and make sausages with ground beef." Mrs. Fitch said, her hands on her hips, looking at the small basin of rabbit offal in front of her.
"Boiled sausages or fried sausages?" Darien had no opinion at all.
"Boiled," said Fitch.
"What nonsense! Of course it's pan-fried!" Mrs. Fitch grabbed Fitch's ear and said loudly.
The poor rat's head was buzzing from the shock, and he fell backward into a pile of garlic.
Darien pulled Fitch out, rubbed his forehead with his fingers and put the chef's hat on him.
"Thank you." Fitch took two steps on the spot, then staggered and fell into the pile of carrots again.
"Is he all right?" Darien asked Mrs. Fitch.
"He's fine, don't worry about him." Mrs. Fitch brought over a tube of pepper and poured it into the ground beef.
Sewell came into the kitchen shortly afterwards and was assigned by Mrs. Fitch to chop an onion in the farthest corner of the kitchen.
Darien, who was standing diagonally across from Seville, was using a knife to poke out garlic cloves. Mrs. Fitch said she needed a lot of garlic, and the bowl in front of her was already filled with plump white garlic cloves at the bottom.
Mrs. Fitch has a unique insight into cooking, and Fitch can control the seasoning precisely. The two of them are stuffing rabbit offal into the meat grinder, stirring the handle vigorously to turn the rabbit offal into meat paste, and then putting it into the ground beef and continuing to season it.
The crimson rabbit entrails disappeared as they were mixed into more ground beef, turning it into a red and white mincemeat.
Sewell's eyes were already red, and they became even redder from cutting onions. Following Mrs. Fitch's instructions, he put the shredded onions into a pot of milk and cooked it on the stove, stirring it.
"Cream soup tonight?" Darien asked.
"No, this is my sausage recipe. Believe me, adding it to minced meat will make the taste special!" Mrs. Fitch said happily.
"Okay, I'll give you the garlic. Do you want to make sausages out of the rabbit meat too?" Darien put down the knife and handed over the bowl of garlic.
"Make a stew with lots of garlic," said Mrs. Fitch.
After finishing his work, Mr. Wizard had nothing to do, so he strolled around the kitchen.
The large kitchen has become a treasure hunt map. Every place you pass by can be searched, including the vegetable basket, egg bowl, closed closet and cupboard...
Darien found three large potatoes with mud on their skins, carrots as thin as fingers, eggs with chicken feathers on their shells... and a block of butter in the dairy cabinet.
Darien brought the butter block close to his nose and smelled it. A strong milky aroma went straight from his nasal cavity to his brain.
He suddenly had a brilliant idea.
Mrs. Fitch and Fitch were running around among the spice jars—white pepper, thyme, allspice, basil—and they couldn't pay attention to this side for the moment.
Darien quietly moved up behind Seville and threw a large piece of butter into the milk pot.
Then pretend nothing happened and run away.
Sewell lowered his eyes and pretended not to see it. He stirred the milk pot with a spoon a few times. The butter cubes were quickly melted in the milk, and the pot of boiling milk became a little yellower.
"What was that sound just now? It was the smell of butter, right?" Mrs. Fitch sniffed.
"The butter fell from the cupboard into the milk pan," Darien answered honestly but elliptically.
"Dear Darien, you are such a genius. Maybe this will make our sausages more delicious! But please ask me first next time," said Mrs. Fitch.
Mr. Wizard rarely makes trouble in the kitchen. The last time he did that, he threw a handful of mint leaves into the apple jam. It didn't taste bad, but it tasted a bit strange. It sat in the cupboard for a long time without anyone eating it, until Jenny Pig took out the jar and licked it clean.
"I see." Darien shook his head.
Sewell brought the cooked onion milk to the table, and Mrs. Fitch asked him to mash the onions into a paste.
Darien wandered around the kitchen again, but because Mrs. Fitch was watching closely, he didn't find another opportunity to attack.
"Dear Darien, you're spinning like a top, making me dizzy. How about you help me melt some chocolate and make some molten chocolate cake?" Mrs. Fitch found something for him to do.
The spinning top finally stopped and began to eat the chocolate.
Sewell finished mashing the onion and milk paste, and before Mrs. Fitch gave him any further instructions, he walked over to Darien and asked, "Would you like some apple juice?"
Darien stuffed the chocolate he didn't want to eat anymore into Mr. Crow's mouth and said, "Drink."
Sewell put the chocolate to his cheek, hid it in his mouth and slowly melted it.
Mrs. Fitch had already stuffed the sausages and was now preparing the rabbit.
Pour olive oil into the heated pan, add plenty of garlic and onions, and fry the garlic in hot oil until it crackles in the pan.
The aroma of garlic and onions filled the kitchen, and Darien took a deep breath. He remembered garlic butter pancakes.
So did Mrs. Fitch.
So she asked Sewell to knead the dough, and today she would have garlic butter pancakes instead of mashed potatoes, bread, or rice.
The garlic and onion shreds are fried until golden brown, and large pieces of rabbit meat are put into the pot.
Mrs. Fitch and Fitch worked together to pick up the spatula and turned the rabbit meat over while shouting.
Everyone in the kitchen has something to do, and the joy and aroma of food linger in this small space. This atmosphere seems to bring everyone closer together.
Darien had the simplest job. He sat down at the table early to rest, drinking a full glass of apple juice with ice cubes poured for him by Mr. Crow.
The rabbit meat had been fried, and Mrs. Fitch actually poured half a bottle of cherry wine into it. The purple-red wine gurgled, and it felt like a witch's cooking.
The oyster pie had been put into the oven before he entered the kitchen. The embers of the charcoal fire slowly baked the salty seafood pie, and sea water slowly flowed out from the cracks of the oven, washing over Darien's nose.
I had great anticipation for the start of dinner.
Because everyone who needed to eat stayed in the kitchen, the meal was simply eaten in the kitchen. The table by the window could accommodate all the dishes and only had seats for two people, so Mrs. Fitch and Fitch sat at the table to eat.
They were sitting in the kitchen, so all the dishes were served at the same time: oyster pie, rabbit stewed in cherry wine, pancakes with garlic butter in the middle, lava cake with chocolate sauce in the middle, and finally a plate of cherry radish and orange salad, which was obviously just to make up the number.
When there are many people in the kitchen, it is difficult for Mrs. Fitch to control the amount of food, and she always makes more and more.
"I want oyster pie," Darien said to Sevier.
"Okay, master." Sewell rolled up his shirt cuffs and folded them twice, then picked up a knife and cut the oyster pie.
Crunch.
The pie crust was so crispy that it broke at the touch, and the salty and thick cream soup flowed out from the knife edge. A cut corner was placed on Darien's plate, and the large oyster meat slid out of the pie along with the soup.
Darien took a big bite with his fork, blew on it anxiously, and immediately put it back into his mouth. He was so burned that he couldn't speak, but he didn't want to spit it out.
The hot and salty soup has a rich creamy flavor. The oysters wrapped in the creamy soup are not overcooked and are still tender and crumbly. They break into pieces with just a few taps of the teeth. It is so delicious that it makes you cry.
Sewell added two more ice cubes to the apple juice and pushed it to Darien's hand.
Darien took a sip of the cool apple juice in his mouth and immediately felt better.
"Be careful, dear. How does it taste?" asked Mrs. Fitch.
"Delicious." Darien swallowed the apple juice in his mouth.
This sentence is enough.
Darian finished the whole piece of oyster pie, then took two bites of cherry radish mixed with orange, which was sweet and spicy, and diluted the taste of oyster pie in his mouth a lot.
Try the rabbit braised in cherry wine and the sausages stuffed with beef and rabbit offal.
The rabbit stewed in cherry wine has a sweet and sour taste, and the aroma of cooked garlic. The meat is a little tougher than other meats we usually eat. There is no fat and it is all lean meat. Darian tore the meat into pieces and put it in butter garlic pancakes to eat.
The garlicky pancakes with sweet and sour rabbit meat were pretty good.
Darien didn't like the beef sausage with rabbit offal. It didn't taste bad, but the minced meat was a bit too fine. Although the sausage skin was fried crispy, he didn't like the meat paste that was too watery.
Sewell will take care of the sausages.
Mrs. Fitch and Fitch ate the same food as them but also a little differently. Their table was set with a mouse special, extra-small oyster pie and mouse sausage, a little shredded rabbit meat and two pancakes the size of glasses... everything was of the smallest size and used with small cutlery.
Mrs. Fitch had some cream of oyster pie in her beard, and large drops of it had run down her beard and landed accidentally on her apron.
"I'm terribly sorry, but mice are a little difficult to follow in terms of table manners," said Mrs. Fitch regretfully.
Fitch, who was sitting opposite her, was chewing the cake with both hands, and the crumbs fell all over his pants.
"But it's been a pleasure dining with you. Would you like some apple juice?" said Sewell.
All three cups were raised.
The food in front had already filled Darien's stomach for the most part, leaving only room for dessert.
The cake had been kept warm above the fireplace, and when Darien dug into the cake with his fork, the chocolate sauce inside had not yet cooled and slowly flowed out from the center of the brown cake.
Darian dipped the cake in chocolate sauce, which was sweet with a hint of bitterness, but not too greasy. After finishing a palm-sized cake, he was completely full.
It's time to go to the herb garden to digest the food.
Darien wiped his mouth with a handkerchief and burped twice as he walked out of the kitchen. They were all the smell of tonight's food.
The leisure in the tower is intermittent. After a particularly busy business, the number of customers coming to the store becomes sporadic, and they come only to help clear out the potions and magic items.
When debt is not a problem, it is nice to have such leisure time.
Darien couldn't help but stay in bed for three days in a row.
Anyway, there are no guests in the morning, so there is no need to get up so early, right? Seville takes care of the herb garden anyway, so he doesn't need to get up and water them before the dew evaporates.
"Dear master..." Another morning, Seville's call rang in his ears.
"I won't get up unless I have guests." Darien buried himself in the pillow.
"Miss Tina is here to visit." said Sewell.
"What time is it?" Darien opened his eyes suddenly.
"It's 10:32 am now." Sewell glanced at his pocket watch.
Darien jumped up.
With the help of Mr. Crow, he packed himself up as quickly as possible and went to see Tina.
Tina brought them a box of delicious ham scones.
"Oh, long time no see! I finally finished the work in my store, so I came to visit you today. Come and try the ham scones I made by myself, they are absolutely delicious!" Tina enthusiastically lifted the oil paper wrapping them.
"It smells delicious. I'll be more than welcome. Seville, get some tea from Lorembe and make a pot of tea to go with the delicious scones," said Darien.
Before the tea was served, he picked up a ham scone and put it in his mouth under Tina's gaze.
The crispy scones taste a bit like cookies, but they are thick and large cookies with hard ham particles. The taste is not purely salty, but slightly sweet.
Great to save a growling stomach.
"How does it taste?" Tina asked impatiently.
"It's delicious. I haven't eaten such delicious scones in a long time." Darien licked the cookie crumbs from the corner of his lips.
"I'm so happy to receive such evaluation! It proves that what I make is destined to be with people who can appreciate it!" Tina said with a smile.
Sewell returned with tea.
"Please have some tea." Light green tea was brought to Tina.
"The color is so special, and it smells so special too. Let me try it!" Tina blew hard and then took a sip. "It tastes so sweet! Oh my god, it's like some kind of juice! It goes perfectly with my scone!"
"I'm also very happy to hear such compliments." Darien raised the corners of his lips and smiled a little proudly.
While drinking tea and eating snacks, Tina talked about the follow-up of the blood crystal case after they left.
"Just two days after that man was taken away by the Paladins and the patrol, people from the Ministry of Magic came to find me. I was really shocked," said Tina.
"Someone from the Ministry of Magic? The person we caught was from the Ministry of Magic? I can't think of any other reason." Darien said.
"They didn't say anything, they just asked some simple questions. I remember one of them was asking if he sold blood crystals in the store. How would I know that?" Tina said.
"What happened next?" Sevier refilled Tina's tea.
"Anyway, these people came back to my tavern several times and scared away all my customers. A few days later, several of them were hanged on the gallows. I heard from others that two of them were actually wizards from the Ministry of Magic, and the rest were vicious mercenaries." Tina sighed.
"The Ministry of Magic has a reading room dedicated to storing scrolls of forbidden spells. All the confiscated forbidden spells are sealed there. The original intention was to isolate them, but they were used instead." Darien said in a deep voice.
"Why seal them instead of destroying them?" Sewell asked this question.
"Because the old guys in the Ministry of Magic want to study the forbidden books above. They believe that if they reverse a part of these ancient forbidden spells, they can become new spells." Darien said.
"That is to say, the guys who study those things can actually use those forbidden techniques, and how far they can go depends entirely on their moral bottom line?" Tina said.
"Your understanding is correct. We can only be thankful that not everyone in the Ministry of Magic has access to it," Darien said.
"They are really inexplicable, but I admire what King Norman did. He has the same style as his father when he was young," said Tina.
"The Norman King? What did he do besides send those guys to the gallows?" asked Sewell.
Darien and Sewell both knew that King Norman was still the King Soren who had ruled the Rose Dynasty for decades, and they were both curious about his performance.
"He ordered a thorough investigation into this heinous case, and confiscated all the property of the criminals and distributed it to the families of the deceased as compensation. I heard there was so much money that some people had no time to grieve," said Tina.
"It seems that King Norman did a good job and can indeed be said to be a good king," said Darien.
"I've been listening to people's heated discussions for several days, and many people think that King Norman will make our lives better," said Tina.
Darien made no comment.
After the discussion, tea and snacks were almost finished. There was nothing special in the tower, so Darien took Tina to visit the gardens and herb gardens outside, which were at least more interesting than visiting the furniture.
"I love your vegetable garden. The lettuces are growing so well, as well as the spinach and cherry tomatoes. Oh my God, there are artichokes, fennel, eggplant, cabbage... Wait, aren't the seasons a bit confusing here?" Tina said with her hands on her hips.
"We don't have seasons here. The weather is the same all year round, neither cold nor warm. The sun is not too bright, and it's more cloudy than sunny," said Darian.
"But you grow the vegetables very well. It's great to have such a beautiful vegetable garden and eat different kinds of fresh vegetables every day! You also raise rabbits and chickens!" Tina discovered something new.
Darien was a little flattered by Tina's praise, and followed Tina's footsteps out of the chicken coop.
Tina's arrival caused great chaos.
The rabbits in the next fence had all gone back into their cabins, and the hens were huddled together, trembling.
"They seem a little afraid of me, hahaha..." Tina's outstretched hand froze in mid-air, and she had to laugh to cover up her embarrassment.
Weak animals are particularly sensitive to the scent of dangerous creatures, and they smelled Tina's werewolf scent.
They didn't stay here for long, lest the werewolf's breath scare the little creatures to death.
After walking around twice, Darian simply took Tina to the kitchen and asked her to discuss cooking skills with Mrs. Fitch to decide what to eat for lunch today.
As soon as Tina walked into the kitchen, she immediately burst into a scream: "Oh my God! Why is there a mouse here!"
