Chapter 46 Open the door and see who is outside

"Should we go out? Or should we stay in the house?" said Hawkins.

Although he is not as good a magician as Darien, he has plenty of amulets and potions on him, and he can run fast, so he should be fine if he goes out for a walk.

"On this first night here, let's stay indoors. We can take turns keeping watch and see what the monster the villagers are talking about is." Darien rejected the suggestion.

"I'll prepare dinner," said Sewell.

The time he had just returned to the tower, he had not only taken bedding for the bed, but he had also gone to the kitchen and swept away all the food and kitchen utensils.

The kitchen in this room can be used. Although it only has a blackened stove, being able to make some hot food will be much more appetizing than eating cold meals.

Sewell took out the soup pot, and as he took the pot and spoon away, Mrs. Fitch made him swear that he would bring her babies back intact.

Hawkins walked around the house. He didn't have much confidence in this house. The wooden walls could be knocked down with just a few kicks. Although the windows were closed, there were still gaps for wind to come in.

Darien watched him spinning around the room, feeling dizzy. "Hawkins, stop. You're making me dizzy."

Hawkins paused, his face filled with worry. "Darian, to be honest, I'm worried."

Darien said, "I can see you're worried, and what?"

Hawkins said, "Don't you think this house is very fragile? If the monsters outside just bump into it a few times, they can come in and eat us like canned food?"

Darien said, "If you're really worried, just draw a protective array on the wall instead of wandering around here. I can give you a bottle of array potion for free."

Hawkins sighed. "It's not impossible. Is it really free?"

Darien deadpanned, "It's free, take it and get out of here."

Hawkins happily took the potion and began to write and draw on the doors and windows.

Seville prepared the ingredients for the soup, just some simple potatoes, carrots and onions, and some lamb ribs.

But he had trouble with the fire-making part.

God knows what the flint is like. It can't be lit outside the tower. Even if you can barely strike out some small sparks, they won't burn when they bounce onto firewood.

"Move aside, I'll do it." Darien patted his shoulder and asked him to move out of the way.

The wizard snapped his fingers, and the firewood in the stove immediately caught fire.

Sewell sighed from the bottom of his heart: "Dear master, your wisdom and talent are unmatched."

Darien said without hesitation: "Of course."

Hawkins, who was leaning against the window drawing a magic circle, said, "You are not modest at all. You are really too..."

Darien said, "Shut up."

The pile of firewood that finally ignited turned half of the room orange-red. The sky outside darkened and the whole room became very dim.

This house has no glass windows. The windows are two solid wooden boards that can be opened and closed. There is a small gap in the middle. It cannot be closed tightly, so if there is wind outside, air can leak in.

After Hawkins drew the formation on the window, he felt that the small gap was a bit too unsafe, so he started walking around the house, trying to find a piece of cloth to cover the window.

Darien sat next to Sewell and watched him make soup.

Throw in all the vegetables, the lamb ribs, and some spices. The soup in the pot boils, the vegetable tubers tumble, and a sweet fragrance emanates from the rising steam.

Darien licked his lips. He was a little hungry and wanted a bowl of hot soup.

"It will take a little longer to cook the lamb until it is tender. Would you like some bread first, with peanut butter or butter?" asked Sewell.

"Well, then..." Darien was interrupted by Hawkins's howl before he could finish his words.

Hawkins didn't know what was going on. He stood in front of the window with a piece of rag in his hand like a big flea.

"What are you doing?" Darien frowned.

"I just saw it. A pair of eyes were peeping at us through the window crack." Hawkins' voice trembled a little.

"Have you seen clearly what is out there besides talent?" Darien asked.

"I don't know. I didn't dare to look closely." Hawkins slowly backed away from the window.

Darien was silent for a moment, then said, "Hawkins, I've known you for so many years, and this is the first time I've heard that you're an academic."

Hawkins said, "Isn't it obvious? I stay at home and meticulously research potion formulas... Wait, so why am I here with you?"

It suddenly dawned on him that he didn't need to come.

Darien also suddenly realized: "Yes, why are you here?"

The two of them looked at each other. Hawkins was silent for a moment and then said, "So can you send me back now? I think I can leave now."

Darien smiled: "It's not good, but I'm here now."

They completely ignored the thing outside the door, which was not sure whether it was a human or a monster. Since it came here, the villagers were trembling with fear every night, screaming and trembling at it through the doors and windows.

What's wrong with these people in the door? They have no respect for it at all! It's going crazy!

Bang bang bang bang!

There was a violent knock on the door, and the whole door was shaken, as if the next lesson was about to be removed by something outside the door.

"It won't knock the door down, will it?" Hawkins's face looked very worried.

"It shouldn't. So can you put down the Thunder Potion and Glory Cannon in your hand? If they are thrown from this distance, we will be blown away together." said Darien.

"It's good that it can't get in." Hawkins put the powerful object back into his pocket.

"Would you like some bread first? It's whole wheat bread. It's not too soft, but it tastes great when toasted and spread with butter or peanut butter," said Sewell.

"Butter, salted butter? I want something sweet," said Hawkins.

"I want peanut butter," Darien said.

"Okay." Sewell agreed to everything.

The monster outside the door became even angrier and hammered on the door even harder. The whole house was shaking and the beams seemed to be unable to bear the weight and began to make a teeth-grinding creaking sound.

"I'll go check it out." Darien frowned and stood up from his chair.

"Don't open the door! The village chief said that the door cannot be opened." Hawkins warned.

"No, I'll just take a look. It's too noisy. Dust is falling here, what if it falls into the pot?" said Darien.

Sewell flipped the toast, and the room was filled with the delicious aroma of vegetable broth and bread.

Solve the problem quickly and eat early after solving it.

Darien walked quickly to the door. There was a crack in the wooden door. He stood not too far from the door and looked directly into the crack.

Outside the door was a skinless, bloody man with all his muscles exposed, looking extremely creepy.

The smell of blood drifted in faintly as it smashed, and Darien covered his mouth and nose.

It looks like a ghoul.

However, ghouls are less intelligent and usually crawl on all fours like hounds. I have never seen one in this form.

"Who are you? Why are you knocking on our door?" Darien tried to talk to the monster outside the door.

The door that was being knocked suddenly stopped shaking, and the monster outside stopped knocking.

The whole house fell silent, with only the crackling of burning wood and the gurgling of the soup pot, a quietness that was a little unspeakable.

Darien waited patiently, observing the other person's reaction through the crack in the door.

The thing outside the door stood quietly in front of it, like a silent corpse, and the two of them faced each other through a thin door panel.

Suddenly, the monster outside the door moved and slammed into the crack of the door. Its dark pupils stared at Darien through the crack, and its nails scratched, making a teeth-grinding sound.

So disgusting. I want to blow it up.

Darien's expression remained unchanged, but the disgust in his heart had reached its peak.

If he didn't have to have dinner later, he would really want to blow the whole place up.

The monster outside the door threatened him for a moment, but when he showed no reaction, it retreated and left, probably to scare other villagers.

"Well, did you see what that thing looked like?" Hawkins said cautiously, leaning over.

"Look carefully, it's ugly. Don't ask any more questions, we have dinner later." Darien said.

"You can actually still eat..." Hawkins felt a sense of admiration in his heart.

Darien's appetite plummeted because of the monster outside the door, and he had no taste for the fragrant toast.

He decided to wait a while and have dinner after he had recovered, so he asked Sewell to help him eat the bread.

Not long after, the sound was heard outside the house again.

This time the sound was much more normal than the monster knocking on the door before. It seemed like the footsteps of someone approaching.

Hawkins, who was eating bread, swallowed the dry bread slices with force, gulped and said, "No way, again?"

"Would you like some soup?" Sewell asked kindly.

Hawkins was about to speak when he realized that the words were not addressed to him, so he took another bite of bread awkwardly.

"No, I'm not hungry yet." Darien didn't want to eat.

The footsteps outside the door stopped, and then there were two light knocks on the door.

"Is there anyone inside? I'm Sarah, the original owner of this house. Please open the door. We have come back from a long way away. The monsters outside have gone far away. Let us in quickly." A woman's voice said outside.

Her voice sounded a little scared and trembling slightly, as if she was wary of the movements around her.

"Open the door, please save us." Another voice that came with her pleaded.

No one in the room moved.

Village chief Walton had made it clear that the door must not be opened no matter what happened.

Although the woman outside the door claimed to be the owner of the house, as a villager of this village, she had suffered so many frights recently that anyone who dared to go out at night would most likely be seeking death.

Just ignore them and pretend you didn't hear them.

The voice outside the door was still pleading for the door to be opened, and the knocking sound was getting louder and louder, like the crackling of raindrops hitting the door panel. It no longer sounded like someone wanted to ask for the door to be opened, but more like someone wanted to take the door down.

"Open the door! Open the door! I know you are inside! Why don't you open the door for us!"

Darien said to Sewell, "I want a bowl of soup, no carrots, more onions."

The people outside the door were completely enraged: "Open the door quickly! Let us in immediately!"
