Chapter 86 The Chase of the Fish Monster
"Ahem." Darien interrupted Sewell, "I only did the one on his head."
"Oh." Mrs. Fitch understood, which meant that the wreath on Darien's head was made by Sewell.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" Sewell said with a smile.
"It's really beautiful. Tell me how to weave it. Teach Fitch how to weave it and ask him to weave one for me," said Mrs. Fitch.
"Of course." Seville was not very satisfied with her reaction, but it would be too obvious if he continued to show off, so he had to shut up.
Darien was caught up in a new game, playing skipping stones with Mrs. Fitch.
Boom, boom, boom, the water splashed everywhere. Only a few stones were able to leap over the water surface, and the rest directly stirred up violent splashes of water.
On the other side of Moon Lake, a group of cows were drinking water with their heads down by the lake. Their expressions and movements were extremely cautious, as if they were afraid of angering something in the lake.
Darien and Mrs. Fitch's movements were so great that the continuous throwing of stones caused many ripples on the surface of the lake.
The scene was familiar, like Darien throwing pebbles into a groundhog's nest.
With so many small stones thrown in, the big guy in the lake was finally angered.
Just as Darian threw out a perfect triple jump, a huge black shadow suddenly emerged from under the water.
Darien saw it and quickly pulled Mrs. Fitch back: "There's something in the water, be careful!"
Mrs. Fitch also saw it: "What a big fish! It looks like a catfish?"
The black shadow quickly rose up, and the shapes of several tentacles could be seen particularly clearly.
Sewell and Fitch also quickly retreated until they were a long distance away from the lake, but they kept their eyes fixed on it.
"Do you think this fish will jump right onto the shore?" Darien said to Sevier.
"Maybe?" Sewell wasn't entirely sure. "I only know that crocodiles come ashore, but these underwater fish might only appear briefly on shore."
"I want to take a look." Darian did not retreat. He stood only about one meter away from the shore.
The black shadow at the bottom of the water swam faster and faster, and he even began to hear the sound of water breaking. When the sound was at its loudest, a huge black shadow suddenly jumped out of the water.
Everyone raised their heads and looked at the dark shadow above their heads.
“Run!”
Someone shouted, and everyone started running.
The huge spotted catfish slammed down with a loud noise, accompanied by the sudden shaking of the ground. The herd of cattle drinking water on the opposite side were greatly frightened and ran suddenly in the other direction.
Darien felt the grass under his feet shaking violently. The turf he stepped on turned into a piece of collapsed jelly, and he stumbled every two steps.
He looked back and saw that most of the spotted catfish's body had hit the shore, and the splashing water had soaked a large area of grass around it.
The catfish swam back into the water, wagging its tail, but soon gathered its strength and floated up again, landing on the shore.
This is because it jumped higher and farther, but they had already run far away and were a long distance away from the big catfish, so it couldn't hit them at all.
"What's going on? Did we disturb its sleep?" Mrs. Fitch shouted.
"I think so," Sewell replied. "The exact same thing just happened..."
"Shut up." Darien glared at Sevier.
The giant catfish, which was more than three meters long, did not give up when it could not hit them. Instead, it tried to swing its tail and use its strong muscles to launch itself out, determined to hurt both of them.
"Why is it still chasing us? Wouldn't a fish be stranded on the shore? Doesn't it breathe with its gills?" Darien was shocked.
“Anger may have greatly stimulated its potential,” Sewell said.
They were chased by the catfish for a long distance, but after a while, the noise behind them gradually weakened.
Darien also stopped and looked back.
A lot of mucus on the catfish's body was scraped off by the grass. There was no shade here at all, and the sun quickly dried its skin.
It ran aground on the shore.
"Did it commit suicide?" said Mrs. Fitch.
"That's what it seems," said Sewell.
"It's a very bad-tempered fish. It chased us so far away from the shore and then was dried into a dried fish. How can we get it back? Do we think it will eat us?" Darien looked at the catfish with a very sad expression.
"I think we should make it into grilled fish." A voice interrupted.
It's Lianna.
"Why are you here too?" Darien asked.
"This is near my home. Isn't it normal for me to be here?" Liana said. "This fish scared the cattle. I drove them home and saw it chasing you."
"Okay. We want to stay at your hotel tonight. Please prepare our dinner. You just said to eat this fish?" Darien said.
"Yes, they will eat cattle and sheep drinking water near the water. They are very hateful guys, so eat it and we have already paid the bill," said Lianna.
"How should we eat it? Will grilled fish be too fishy? We need to add some chili powder to catfish to remove the fishy smell," said Mrs. Fitch.
"Is it poisonous? Its skin looks very brightly colored, like a toad that secretes venom through its skin," said Sewell.
"What's the name of this fish? I've never seen a catfish grow so big." Darian also said.
"You have so many questions. Please answer them one by one. I'll answer this lady's questions first." Liana was overwhelmed by their questions. "Its slime does smell earthy, but if you cut off the skin, the meat inside will not have such a bad smell. It's non-toxic. As for its name, we call it Disney Phoenix, which means destroyer."
"The name sounds familiar, but I can't quite place it right now." Darien frowned.
"You guys go over there. I won't take you with me. I have to go back and call some people to help me get this fish back." Lianna rode her horse and quickly disappeared in front of them.
Darien looked at the fish and felt that its movements had become very weak. By the time Lianna turned back, it probably would not have any attack power left.
So I stopped paying attention and walked towards the wooden house.
Lianna's cabin is the best in the area. It is built with ash trees, which are brought from the town. They are all strong and durable woods. The house built with them can withstand the attacks of wolves.
"You are the guests that Lianna mentioned. I am Lianna's mother. You can call me Mrs. Carola." A woman with olive-tanned skin invited them into the house.
Although this row of houses are wooden houses on the ranch, the interior is decorated very warmly. The embroidered curtains and embroidered tablecloths, as well as small decorations such as floral chair covers, all prove that the owner here loves life very much.
"The rooms here are really nice," Darien praised.
"Thank you for your compliment. How many rooms do you need? Liana only told me there were four guests." Mrs. Carola smiled.
"Two rooms, maybe," Darien said.
"Okay, you'll only be staying for one night. I'll show you your rooms." Mrs. Carola looked at them a few times and then knew what kind of room to arrange for them.
She gave the Fitches a room with only one bed, and Darien and Sevier a room with two small wooden beds.
Lianna and her elders soon returned. The cloth bags hanging on their horses were filled with a lot of cut fish. It seemed that tonight's dinner was already a foregone conclusion.
"Do you want to go to the kitchen to eat? We can grill fish around the oven and use the pot hanging in the middle of the oven to cook cheese." Lianna asked.
"You can try," Darien said.
"There look to be too many people here. Can we sit down?" Sewell looked at the men outside the door.
"What simple and primitive cooking!" exclaimed Mrs. Fitch.
"You are the guests, let them eat outside by themselves!" Liana said nonchalantly.
"Thank you for your hospitality tonight." Darien didn't know what to say, so he just nodded.
"You're welcome, you paid for it," Lianna said.
"Actually, I haven't paid yet. How much is it for one night's accommodation and dinner?" Darien asked.
"How could I have forgotten such an important thing!" Lianna exclaimed. "You should pay 26 silver coins, which is a pretty good price, right?"
"Indeed, Sewell, pay the bill," Darien said.
"Good master." Sewell took out his wallet and paid the bill.
"I just like you noble gentlemen who are so straightforward. Do your clothes need to be repaired? I see a lot of holes. Of course, it's not free." Lianna said.
"How much?" asked Sewell.
He really needs this service.
"One silver coin, and you can get the repaired clothes tomorrow," said Mrs. Carola.
"Don't put patches on the bottom. I don't like patches on clothes," said Darien.
"No problem, of course it can be done. Mom, let me take care of it here, you take them to the kitchen, our guests must be starving. They have been chased by Disney Phoenix for a long way!" Lianna said to her mother with a smile.
"Oh, then you must be exhausted. Come with me!" Mrs. Carola looked at them with pity in her eyes.
Darien didn't want to recall the embarrassing behavior he had just done, so he kept his mouth shut and let the matter pass.
Mrs. Carolla's cooking was so crude that Mrs. Fitch was shocked.
After cleaning the blood off the fish, it is cut into large slices, marinated with salt and pepper, put on iron forks and grilled directly on the charcoal fire.
Darien sat on the steps. The stove in the kitchen was very special. A small area was hollowed out and surrounded by two small steps on the perimeter where one could sit.
Beef and horse meat were hung from the kitchen rafters to be dried in the heat of the fire.
Darien took the iron fork in his hand and turned the fish back and forth on the fire. The translucent fish meat was soon roasted to a ripe white color.
The fish oil dripped into the fire, making the charcoal crackle. Amid the rising sparks, he suddenly remembered where he had seen the name Disney.
I've seen it in a book on potion material classification. The meat of this fish has a special effect, which is that it can cancel the lasting effects of many potions. For example, if someone drinks a love potion, they will wake up immediately if they eat the fish meat within the potion's effective period.
But he had never drunk any magic potion, so he just ate it as ordinary fish.
