Until the next morning.
The bedroom curtains were not drawn, and a ray of winter sunlight shone through the glass onto the bed.
Xiang Niannian's eyelids trembled, and then she slowly opened her eyes. The sunlight was so bright that it was almost blinding.
Once she felt her eyes adjust to the sunlight, she opened them completely. Looking at the bright white ceiling, she didn't react for a moment. Just as she tried to move, she felt dizzy and lightheaded.
"Hiss..." I feel weak all over.
Xiang Niannian caught something out of the corner of her eye, her consciousness slowly returning, and then she suddenly turned around, her eyes wide open to look.
"Awake?" A magnetic, husky voice sounded in Xiang Niannian's ear.
Su Chuanlin rubbed his bloodshot eyes. He hadn't slept all night, and Xiang Niannian's fever finally broke just as the sky was beginning to lighten, so he managed to doze off for a while.
Sure enough, sensing the movement, he woke up, even though he wasn't in a deep sleep.
"You... what are you doing here??" Xiang Niannian's voice was softer and weaker than before because she was still sick, and there was a hint of helplessness in it.
As soon as she finished speaking, memories of last night flooded into her mind.
First came their embrace, her grievances, his tenderness, and then... their kiss and that embarrassing and awkward act of feeding each other medicine mouth-to-mouth.
So when she woke up in the middle of the night, she felt someone taking care of her; it wasn't a dream, it actually happened.
The person who took care of her was Su Chuanlin.
Xiang Niannian was at a loss for how to react. She had clearly decided last night that she would no longer have any contact with Su Chuanlin.
Her face changed from pale and flustered at first to blushing now.
Su Chuanlin kept staring at Xiang Niannian, already guessing that she had remembered. He didn't rush to speak, but instead crossed his arms, a smile playing on his thin lips, and continued to sit against the headboard.
Xiang Niannian was half-supported sitting on the bed, just looking at Su Chuanlin.
He was wearing a noticeably wrinkled white shirt, and his hair, perhaps untouched overnight, was now disheveled and hanging over his forehead.
This didn't affect his looks at all; instead, it gave him a kind of innocent, childlike beauty—beauty, not handsomeness.
Because every time I saw him before, he had a mature, handsome look.
"What's wrong? Are you stunned? Or have you run a fever again?"
Su Chuanlin waited for a while but didn't hear Xiang Niannian speak. He thought she had caught a fever again, so he leaned forward and instinctively placed his large hand on her forehead to check.
But Xiang Niannian tried to dodge when she saw his sudden hand.
"don't want!"
Su Chuanlin was taken aback: "Last night was out of necessity. I couldn't wake you up, and you had a fever, so I could only feed you that way. Don't worry, I definitely didn't feel your lips were soft and sweet."
How could a pure white little rabbit possibly be a match for a big bad wolf?
It's better not to say anything at all. How can you know it's soft and sweet if you don't feel it?
Sure enough, Xiang Niannian's face turned as red as a lantern hanging high in the sky. Even though her fever had subsided, she still felt her face burning.
"I mean, why are you here?"
Xiang Niannian mustered up her courage, looked up at him, and asked.
She remembered that the door was locked when she came in yesterday.
"We're on the same wavelength; I sensed that you needed me." Su Chuanlin looked at the person in front of him with disbelief and had no choice but to explain, "You left the hospital in such a hurry, and I missed you after I got back to the company, so I sent you messages, but I didn't get a reply."
So, I came straight to your building as soon as I got off work, but I waited for a long time and didn't see any light on in your window. I knocked on the door but there was no response. I was worried something might have happened to you, so I got the key from the landlord.
As he spoke, Su Chuanlin got out of bed and stood up.
As Xiang Niannian listened to Su Chuanlin's words of concern, she couldn't quite describe the feeling in her heart. She should have felt grateful, but why did she feel like crying and her heart ached?
"Oh, thank you." Xiang Niannian didn't look at Su Chuanlin, but kept her head down, staring at the black blanket, lost in thought.
"You tidy up first, I'll wait for you outside, okay?" Su Chuanlin said gently, bending down slightly.
He didn't leave until Xiang Niannian nodded in agreement. He had only taken two steps when he turned back, startling Xiang Niannian, who was about to get out of bed, and she pulled her foot back.
This action made Su Chuanlin laugh out loud.
"What are you afraid of? I want to ask you, do you even have the strength to fight?"
He had deep feelings for her, but she didn't agree. He would never take advantage of her; last night's kiss was an accident.
"I can, you just get out."
"OK."
After Su Chuanlin left, he considerately closed the door for her.
After he left, he looked around at Niannian: the medicine, thermometer, fever-reducing patches by the bedside...
Su Chuanlin, who was in the living room, finally took a look at Xiang Niannian's little apartment. He looked at the living room, then at the closed bedroom door, and frowned slightly.
All of them combined are not as big as his bedroom, but Xiang Niannian has arranged them very well and they are very tidy.
However, visually it gives people a feeling of oppression and gloom because the colors of the things are all dark and there is not a single bright one.
Upon arriving in the kitchen, Su Chuanlin opened the refrigerator and saw that the food he had instructed his assistant to bring yesterday had filled the once empty refrigerator to the brim. Su Chuanlin then picked up some ingredients and started cooking in the kitchen.
He's not very good at taking care of people, but that doesn't affect his cooking skills.
Because in the Su family, men must know how to cook; this was a rule set by his grandfather, Su Zhihong.
Considering that Xiang Niannian had just recovered from a fever and didn't have a good appetite, Su Chuanlin decided to make a congee with preserved egg and lean pork.
First, mince the pork and preserved egg, then wash the vegetable leaves and put the rice in to cook...
After tidying up, Xiang Niannian carefully opened the door, expecting to see someone sitting on the sofa, but to her surprise, no one was there.
She thought the person had left, and was immediately happy, realizing she wouldn't have to feel awkward anymore.
But for some reason, I felt a little disappointed; he left without even saying goodbye.
Realizing her own emotions, Xiang Niannian immediately shook her head, trying to shake them out of her mind.
"What? You thought I left?"
Xiang Niannian suddenly looked up and saw Su Chuanlin leaning against the door frame not far away, wearing a dark blue apron around his lower body.
"How could you..."
"Oh, I'll cook you some porridge. Wait a bit, it's ready. Go to the table and wait, I'll be right there."
Su Chuanlin finished speaking and returned to the kitchen without giving Xiang Niannian a chance to reply.
Xiang Niannian obediently sat down at the dining table. Since the area around her table wasn't very large, she could see the entire kitchen from the doorway.
You can clearly see Su Chuanlin busy inside, adding seasonings and tasting it carefully before taking out a bowl and serving it.
For a moment, she forgot her embarrassment and sadness, and felt warmth instead.
But she wanted to push away this warmth.
P.S.: Here I come!
