Chapter 19: Wen Yuan's Echo

Lu Qiming's voice, that distorted and grand inhuman declaration amplified by the mecha's loudspeaker - "Insects... feel... the... judgment of the new era!" - was still trembling in the smoke-filled air. The huge cannon on his mecha's giant arm, composed of countless wriggling creatures' eyeballs, the dark purple energy condensed at the muzzle had expanded to its limit.

Space groaned and twisted before the destructive light. Directly below the muzzle was the fortress's main control tower, the direction of Wen Shifei's studio, and suspended in the air was a dark purple seven-pointed star beacon, transformed from the out-of-control "resonance virus"!

"No--!" Wen Shifei's scream was drowned out by the roar of energy.

Lu Cheneng's eyes were bloodshot. The demonic blade in his hand emitted a near-limited, eardrum-piercing scream. The blade's silver-blue light clashed fiercely with the invading dark purple energy. The backlash of agony was like molten lava pouring into the core of his brain chip. He wanted to charge, to block, but his body was pinned to the spot by an invisible mental tsunami. The fortress's energy shield had already been riddled with holes from the impact of the mechanical flesh beasts and the corrosion of the biological pulse spores. Now, before this devastating bombardment, it was like a fragile soap bubble.

boom--!!!

An indescribable noise.

Time seemed to freeze for a moment before being ripped apart by the violent energy. A dark purple beam of destructive force, thick enough to pierce through the heavens and earth, carried with it a will of judgment, fiercely smashed into the most vulnerable point of the fortress master's energy shield!

There is no stalemate, no room for resistance.

Like a glass dome struck by a sledgehammer, the shield let out a piercing wail, instantly covered with spiderweb-like cracks. The next second, before everyone's despairing gaze, it shattered with a bang! Energy fragments flew across the sky, like the crumbling scales of a dying beast, showering the ground with scorching light as they slammed into the crumbling steel fortress below.

The remaining power of the destructive beam penetrated unhindered!

The target is directly aimed at the upper area of the fortress where Wen Shifei’s studio is located!

Boom! Snap!

A blinding purple light devoured the vision. The solid alloy walls and heavy protective gates, like butter cut by a hot knife, melted and vaporized in an instant before the torrent of energy embodying the will of the Ark! The exploding fireball soared into the air, mixing with metal fragments, concrete dust, and instantly vaporized matter, forming a swirling, rising cloud of death streaked with dark purple arcs of electricity.

A terrifying shock wave followed, sweeping across the entire fortress like an invisible giant fist!

Wen Shifei felt an overwhelming force slam into her, her internal organs instantly shifting. Like a leaf caught in a gust of wind, she was lifted up and slammed against the cold alloy wall of the studio, falling heavily. Darkness filled her vision, with only a sharp ringing in her ears and a sharp pain as if her bones were breaking apart. The pungent smell of burning, the stench of molten metal, and the thick scent of blood, mixed with the pervasive, amplified whispers of the Ark spirit, poured into her mouth and nose like a cold, sticky venom, corroding her consciousness.

"Cough... cough cough..." She struggled to stand, each breath carrying a burning pain in her lungs and the taste of rust. Her vision blurred, tears mixed with dust and the warm liquid (blood) running down her forehead, blurring her eyes. She wiped them away with force, peering out through the observation window, distorted and cracked by the explosion, now covered in spiderwebs.

hell.

From the command center, thick smoke and flames billowed into the sky. The once-sturdy tunnel structure twisted and fractured, exposing the hideous remains of broken steel and sparking pipes. The piercing alarms had long been drowned out by the roar of explosions, leaving only a dying, intermittent buzzing. Further away, in the area swept by the aftermath of the bombardment, the buildings looked as if they had been gnawed by a giant beast, leaving gaping holes with molten metal flowing around their edges. Below, in the main fortress, smoke billowed and flames flickered. Desperate cries, painful groans, frantic roars... all kinds of sounds echoed through the ruins, distorted and amplified by the pervasive, cold whisper of the "Ark."

The fortress was wailing, bleeding, and on the verge of collapse.

What made her heart stop the most was the object suspended in mid-air inside the studio—a dark purple seven-pointed star beacon. Far from disappearing or weakening in the explosion, it actually... grew even bigger!

The ball of light, originally only the size of a washbasin, now expanded several times, reaching a diameter of nearly a meter! It hovered quietly above the breach torn by the blast wave, rotating slowly and steadily. It was no longer composed of a pure stream of data. The dark purple and blue light seemed to be mingled with fragments of the recently shattered energy shield, life signals escaping from within the fortress, and even... the remnants of souls instantly annihilated by the bombardment. Like a greedy vortex, it silently devoured all the energy and information around it.

The light grew more concentrated and colder. With each rotation, it radiated a clearer, deeper spiritual pulse. It was no longer a vague whisper, but a cold call with clear instructions, penetrating physical barriers, piercing the barriers of the soul, repeatedly washing over the consciousness of every survivor within the fortress.

It's calling.

It is summoning the world-destroying existence called "The Watcher".

"No... stop..." Wen Shifei's voice was hoarse and frothy with blood. The overwhelming fear and the self-blame that threatened to tear her apart poured down like ice water over her head. It was her! The weapon she had personally crafted had become the catalyst that accelerated doomsday! Her wisdom had become the key to opening the gates of hell! The chill of despair instantly froze her limbs, and even the wound on her shoulder from the flying debris was no longer painful. She felt like a sinner nailed to a pillar of shame, watching helplessly as her own creation devoured everything.
