Chapter 39 Raging Waves

[Warning! The backup power supply unit (UPS) in the C7 physical computer room is abnormally overloaded! Critical temperature! There is a risk of meltdown!]

[Warning! Abnormal physical intrusion detected! The fire door status of the C7 area computer room is abnormal!]

"Area C7?" Ajie's face changed drastically, and he shouted, "That's the physical heart of the main database array! Backup power overload? Physical intrusion? How is this possible! Hasn't 'Undercurrent' been..."

His words stopped abruptly. An even more terrifying thought flashed through his mind like lightning!

"It's a feint by 'Undercurrent'!" Su Wan understood instantly, her face pale. "Their real goal isn't to overwrite network permissions! It's physical destruction! They want to destroy the server!"

"Immediately cut off the main power supply to Area C7! Initiate emergency physical isolation! Evacuate all personnel in the area!" Gu Chengxiao's reaction was extremely fast, and his cold command was issued in an instant, with unquestionable determination. The bodyguard behind him immediately picked up the communicator to convey the order.

"It's too late! If the backup power supply melts and catches fire, it will instantly ignite the entire computer room! Someone must manually shut down that overloaded UPS! It's right next to the core array in the deepest part of Area C7!" Ajie stared at the rapidly climbing temperature curve on the screen and the fire door status that showed "abnormal opening". His voice was hoarse with extreme tension. "The remote control has been physically cut off! It must have been an intruder! It can only be operated manually!"

Time! It's damn time again!

"Oh my god!" Ajie practically roared. The usually shy technical director's face was now filled with determination. He shoved his chair aside and sprinted towards the emergency exit leading to the physical computer room! He knew the dangers there: high temperatures, meltdowns, explosions, and unknown intruders... But he knew even more: if the core server array were destroyed, the entire "Ark" would suffer irreparable damage! The data fortress that Director Su had fought so hard to defend would be destroyed!

"Ajie! Danger!" Su Wan's heart suddenly tightened, and she screamed, subconsciously wanting to chase after him.

"Stop!" Gu Chengxiao shouted, grabbing Su Wan's wrist with astonishing force. His cold eyes carried an absolute command. "Your mission is to stay here! Stabilize the core system! Prevent the enemy from diverting their attention and launching another attack on the virtual layer! Leave the physical layer to security!"

His order was logically impeccable. Su Wan's inner strength was the last line of defense against cyberattacks; she couldn't leave the command center. But watching Ajie's back as he resolutely rushed into the emergency exit, then disappeared behind the heavy fire door, Su Wan felt as if her heart were being gripped by an icy hand, a suffocating panic gripping her.

"No...Ajie..." She struggled to free herself from Gu Chengxiao's hand, her voice trembling unnoticed. A strong sense of foreboding, like a cold, venomous snake, coiled around her heart.

Time crawled by second by second in extreme anxiety.

On the main "Beehive" screen, the "Ark" virtual layer ran smoothly, the blue data stream flowing gently, as if the earth-shattering event just now was just a dream. However, on the small screen next to it, monitoring the physical layer, the temperature curve representing the core UPS in area C7 had soared to a despairing bright red! The warning box next to it kept flashing like a death warrant:

[Temperature: >150°C! Severe overload! Extremely high risk of meltdown!]

[The physical isolation program failed to start! The fire door lock failed! ]

[Warning! High heat source and abnormal smoke detected! ]

Su Wan stared at the screen, her nails digging into her palms, leaving crescent-shaped blood marks. Gu Chengxiao's grip on her wrist didn't loosen at all. His profile was as cold and hard as stone, and his eyes were fixed on the screen with the same solemnity. The entire hall fell silent again, with only the hum of the equipment and the drumming of everyone's heartbeats.

“BOOM——!!!”

A dull yet penetrating roar, like a roar from underground, suddenly erupted from beneath their feet! The entire "Beehive" hall shook violently! The ceiling lights flickered wildly several times, and several emergency lights instantly lit up with a glaring red light!

On the monitoring screen, the temperature curve of the core UPS in Area C7 reached a terrifying peak—and then instantly returned to zero! The icon representing its status next to it turned into a glaring, shattered red cross!

[Warning! The core UPS unit in Area C7 has been confirmed to have melted!]

【Warning! Trigger local fire sprinkler! 】

[Warning! Physical connection interrupted! C7 area data array offline!]

"Ajie!" Su Wan's heart sank to the depths of the abyss as the explosion and the shattered icons on the screen sounded! She let out a shrill cry, no longer paying attention to Gu Chengxiao's orders, and used all her strength to violently break free from his grip! The immense force even caught Gu Chengxiao off guard, causing him to sway slightly.

Su Wan rushed towards the emergency exit door where Ajie disappeared like an arrow! Her speed was so fast that it was beyond common sense, causing a gust of wind.

"Su Wan!" Gu Chengxiao shouted, his face livid, and immediately chased after him. Several bodyguards who had reacted followed closely behind.

Su Wan flung the heavy fire door open, and a scorching smell of burning, pungent ozone, and firefighting water vapor hit her face! The emergency lights in the passageway flashed red, tinging the diffuse white mist with an eerie bloody hue.

Su Wan rushed in without hesitation, followed closely by Gu Chengxiao.

The corridor was short, ending at the entrance to the physical computer room in Area C7. The scene here was even more horrifying. Thick white steam mixed with black smoke billowed out of the open fire door. The piercing sound of the fire sprinklers continued. The ground was a mess, flowing with dirty water mixed with black ash.
