Chapter 50: Rebirth from the Ruins

It wasn't a drug formula, but a massive technical document labeled "Consciousness Mapping and Neural Matrix Remodeling Technology (Ark Core Protocol: Redemption)"! Alongside it was an extremely complex "Deep Purification Protocol" targeting specific neural contamination sources!

Dr. Qin's eyes swept across the document summary like a searchlight, and his heart was beating so wildly that it almost burst through his chest!

"Consciousness...upload? Neural matrix remodeling...carrier?" He muttered to himself, his eyes gleaming with disbelief. He then turned sharply to Lu Cheneng, who was lying on the hospital bed with blurred consciousness, violent convulsions, and the increasingly shrill beeps of the brain wave stabilizer. He then looked at the countless pairs of eyes in the isolation area that were filled with despair and the last glimmer of hope!

A crazy, bold, yet only hopeful idea exploded in his mind like thunder!

"Li Shuo!!" Dr. Qin roared into the communicator, his voice distorted by immense excitement and pressure. "I need you! Now! Immediately! Activate the community's highest energy reserves! Access all available medical bays! Target: Ark Core Protocol 'Redemption'! Prepare for large-scale neural connections! Quick!!!"

Deep in the center of the "Firefly" community, there is a huge underground warehouse that was temporarily converted into the "Ark" protocol execution room.

The air was thick with the scent of ozone and the hum of high-voltage electricity. Thick, shimmering blue energy lines stretched from the warehouse walls like the veins of a giant python, converging in the central area. There, dozens of outdated medical pods, salvaged and repaired from the ruins or seized from Pandora's lab, were hastily connected in series, forming a vast and complex array. Beneath the transparent lid of each pod lay a deeply comatose infected patient, including the dying teenager and the weeping old woman's grandson. Their bodies were connected to a dense web of tubes, and the faint light from their life monitors flickered in the darkness, like a candle in the wind.

In the center of the warehouse stood two special, larger medical cabins. Inside one lay Lu Cheneng. His entire body was covered in sensing electrodes and IV tubes, his face as pale as paper. His body twitched constantly from the intense nervous conflict, and blood foam with faint blue light continued to flow from his mouth and nose. The EEG stabilizer had long been removed, replaced by a silver headband covering his entire head, flashing with complex light paths. On the nearby monitoring screen, the waveform representing his conscious activity was extremely chaotic, like boiling magma, constantly impacting the dangerous red threshold. The other medical cabin, its hatch open, was empty, awaiting its "passenger."

Wen Shifei stood in front of Lu Cheneng's medical cabin, gently stroking his body through the cold, transparent hatch, as if trying to penetrate that barrier and touch his tormented soul. Her face was equally pale, her eyes bloodshot, but her expression was unusually calm, with an almost tragic and resolute determination.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Li Shuo's deep voice echoed behind her. This iron-clad man's face was now filled with an unprecedented solemnity and fatigue, his eyes filled with deep worry. His massive figure stood there, like a reef guarding the last hope. "Uploading consciousness... reshaping the carrier... this technology has never been tested on humans! The risks are incalculable! Moreover... if you enter his consciousness as an 'anchor'..." He paused, his voice hoarse, "you might get lost in it along with him... or even be completely devoured by that thing..."

Dr. Qin nervously adjusted the central control console, his forehead covered in sweat. He looked up at Wen Shifei with bloodshot eyes. "Li Shuo is right. The data from the 'Lighthouse' clearly warns that the 'anchor point' requires extremely strong mental resilience and a deep conscious connection with the target. But the source of pollution is close to fully recovering, and its aggressiveness and chaos... far exceed expectations. Shifei, this is too dangerous!"

Wen Shifei slowly turned, her gaze sweeping across Li Shuo's worried face, then Dr. Qin's tense expression, before finally returning to Lu Cheneng's convulsing figure. The corners of her mouth curved upwards ever so slowly. In that smile, there was no fear, no hesitation, only a calm, blazing light that penetrated the soul.

"Danger?" Her voice was soft, but it echoed clearly in the warehouse, which was filled with the hum of electricity. "Compared to the pain he went through, what is this little danger? Compared to everything he did to protect me, what is my sacrifice?"

She took a step forward, her gaze as firm as a rock. "Doctor, Uncle Li, there's no need to persuade me. Activate the protocol. I'm his anchor, his only connection to the 'human' side. Only I can pull him back." She gave Lu Cheneng a final, deep look, her eyes filled with unwavering love and determination. "If he can't come back... then I'll stay with him."

Dr. Qin looked at the unquestionable fire in Wen Shifei's eyes, then looked at Lu Cheneng, who was on the verge of complete collapse in the medical cabin, and gritted his teeth: "Okay! Prepare for neural connection! Anchor point Wen Shifei, enter cabin number two!"

Without hesitation, Wen Shifei quickly walked over to the empty medical cabin and lay down inside. The cold sensor patch instantly covered her forehead and temples. The hatch slowly closed with a heavy sealing sound.

"The entire system self-test is completed! The energy output is stable! The neural connection matrix is ready!" A technician reported nervously.

"Consciousness mapping protocol loaded! Neural matrix remodeling protocol ready! Deep purification protocol locked onto the target pollution source!" Dr. Qin's voice was hoarse with a desperate attitude. His finger hovered above the scarlet start button in the center of the console and looked at Li Shuo.

Li Shuo took a deep breath, like a general about to launch a charge, and growled into the communicator: "Outer defense! Highest alert! Not even a fly is allowed in! Energy group! Hold it steady! If the fluctuation exceeds 1%, I will twist off your heads!" He took a last look at the two medical cabins, with a heavy trust in his eyes, and nodded heavily to Dr. Qin.
