Chapter 8: Dark Web in the Alleys

Lu Chentang, with the help of Wen Shifei, used some crude tools and parts provided by Old Ghost to modify his "Eye of the Sky" communicator. He didn't abandon it completely, but removed the quantum entanglement communication module and biometric authentication chip—the very parts Old Ghost wanted and the easiest to track. However, he retained the communicator's high-performance processor and some basic scanning and analysis functions, disguising it as a standard black market device from the downtown area.

"The Iron Jaw Gang's biometric system is likely connected to Oracle's low-level database for comparison against the blacklist," Lu Chenentang analyzed as he debugged his device. "If we can intercept and tamper with the data packets uploaded by their system, we might be able to infiltrate."

"Theoretically, it's feasible." Wen Shifei looked at Lu Cheneng's focused profile. His once empty eyes now gleamed with wisdom as he pondered. This light was completely different from the wild power he had previously unleashed during the battle in the "Silent Zone," yet it was equally captivating. "But it requires extremely high timeliness and precision. If we make a mistake, we'll trigger the alarm."

"So, we need to cooperate." Lu Chensheng raised his head and looked at Wen Shifei with a firm look in his eyes.

Night falls once again on the Ghost Market, but the hustle and bustle here has not diminished at all. Instead, it has become more mysterious and indulgent under the cover of darkness.

Lu Chenseng and Wen Shifei changed into dark clothes that were more convenient for movement. Still wearing masks, they sneaked silently through the maze-like alleys outside the "Rusty Furnace".

The "Rusty Furnace" is a fortress converted from an abandoned giant industrial smelting furnace. The periphery is covered with barbed wire and simple surveillance probes, and the entrance is heavily guarded.

"Are you ready?" Wen Shifei asked in a low voice, her fingertips lightly brushing across a microcontroller on her wrist, which was connected to her specially made data jammer.

Lu Cheneng took a deep breath, feeling the steady, powerful beat of his heart in his chest. Fear still lingered, but more of a sense of... anticipation. He nodded, "Let's begin."

Wen Shifei tapped her fingertips, quietly releasing an invisible jamming wave that temporarily blocked the signals from several key surveillance cameras at the entrance. Like a cheetah, Lu Cheneng, using the shadows as cover, silently and with astonishing speed and agility, scurried around to a relatively vulnerable ventilation duct entrance on the side of the "Rusty Furnace."

There is an infrared sensor and a simple combination lock.

Wen Shifei quickly followed, pulling out a slender metal probe and a miniature light screen from her waist, and began to crack the combination lock. Her fingers danced across the light screen, and lines of code flowed across it like flowing water.

Lu Cheneng observed his surroundings vigilantly, whispering a series of data: "There's a patrol thirty meters to the left, expected to arrive in thirty seconds. There's a thermal sensor in the vents above, but there's a three-second scanning delay."

His brain was like the most sophisticated radar, analyzing everything going on around him. Far from weakening his logical analysis, the awakening of his emotions gave him sharper intuition and a stronger sense of his surroundings.

"Done!" Wen Shifei exclaimed, and the combination lock made a slight "click" sound.

The two quickly got into the ventilation duct.

The pipe was narrow, hot, and filled with a strong smell of rust. They crawled forward, relying on the simple map drawn by Wen Shifei and Lu Chen's accurate judgment to avoid patrol points and hidden traps.

Finally, they arrived at the area where the vault was located, the lowest level of the "Rust Furnace" that the old ghost had mentioned. Here, the security was even tighter, and the air was filled with a disturbing energy fluctuation.

The vault's door was constructed of heavy alloy. Two towering guards stood before it, their arms transformed into ferocious mechanical claws. In the center of the door, a dual biometric scanner for palm prints and irises shone with a faint blue light.

"It's right here." Wen Shifei lowered his voice. "We only have one chance. If the scan fails, or the data upload is intercepted by the Oracle, the entire Furnace will be blocked."

Lu Cheneng nodded. He pulled out a small, button-like device from his pocket and attached it to the metal casing next to the biometric scanner. It was a miniature data capture and injection device he had crafted using the remaining parts of the Eye of Tianshu.

"I'll try to intercept the data packet sent by the first guard during authentication, and then replace and inject it with the identity information of a 'deregistered' low-level Iron Jaw Gang member that you previously backed up in the 'Lighthouse' core database." Lu Chen entropy quickly explained the plan, "But the time window is very short, only 0.3 seconds. You need to disrupt their connection to the 'Oracle' main database while I inject the forged data packet, creating a brief illusion of 'local verification'."

Wen Shifei's eyes grew serious. This plan was bold and ingenious, but also fraught with risk. If any link went wrong, the situation would be disastrous.

"I understand." She took a deep breath and placed her fingertips on the controller on her wrist.

The opportunity soon arrived. A guard, seemingly in a hurry, walked towards the biometric scanner, cursing and preparing to temporarily leave his post.

He pressed his palm on it and aligned his eyes with the iris scanning port.

"Now!" Lu Chensheng shouted.

His fingers moved rapidly on the "Eye of Tianshu" disguised as an ordinary electronic device, and complex data streams surged wildly on the screen.

Almost at the same time, Wen Shifei also activated the data interference device!
