Is it... that it's all in vain?
"No..." She let out a silent cry, tears silently sliding down and dripping onto the smooth and cold surface of the Gaia Seed.
At the moment the tears touched the seeds——
Buzz!
An extremely faint emerald green halo ripples out from the point where the teardrop falls!
Immediately afterwards, the equally faint mark between Xu Shuangyao's eyebrows suddenly flashed as if attracted by some strange force!
A faint but distinct... pulsation? It came from deep within the cold, lifeless remains of the massive root she was clinging to! It wasn't the pulse of life, but a deep... wailing and... longing, as heavy as the earth itself!
The pulsation was extremely weak. If she hadn't been close to the roots, and if the mark between her eyebrows hadn't resonated with the seed in her hand, she wouldn't have been able to detect it at all!
"This is..." Xu Shuangyao's blood-stained pupils suddenly contracted! An almost impossible thought split the darkness of despair like lightning!
Fertile soil...is not necessarily living soil! Vitality...is not necessarily living things! These vast, cold, long-dead remains of plant networks and roots...they were once an extension of Gaia's will, the cornerstone of the life cycle that has sustained billions of years! Within their "death silence," do they still hold the planet's most fundamental memories, uncontaminated by mycelium...their pulse?
Resonance... perhaps not awakening living things, but... awakening the dormant soul of the earth! Use the Gaia Seed, the final spark, to ignite the imprint of life that is buried deep within the wreckage and belongs to the planet itself!
This idea is crazy and bold! But it is the only ray of hope in a desperate situation!
Xu Shuangyao no longer hesitated! She struggled to sit up straight and, with all her devotion and hope, gently and steadily placed the dimly glowing Gaia Seed...on the huge, cold, cracked root debris before her!
At the same time, she closed her eyes and channeled all of her remaining mental energy, along with her entire will to live, her determination to protect, and her endless attachment to Gaia, into a powerful torrent of thought, fiercely pouring it into the emerald green mark between her eyebrows! From the mark, it then passed to the palm of her hand pressed against the roots, and finally... into the dying Gaia seed!
"Wake up... Gaia..."
"Listen... to the call... of the earth..."
"In the name of... my guardian... Xu Shuangyao..."
"Ignite...the...heart...of...the...planet!!!"
This silent cry, mixed with the fire of her life, was like a torch thrown into an oil depot!
Buzz——!!!
The Gaia Seed that she pressed on the root remains, when it touched the cold roots and received the torrent of thoughts transmitted by Xu Shuangyao's burning life, was like being injected with the final stimulant, and suddenly burst out with an unprecedented brilliant green light!
This light is no longer the destructive storm that erupted before, but a magnificent vitality filled with warmth, tolerance, awakening and connection!
A stream of emerald green light, like a living thing, instantly flowed along Xu Shuangyao's palm, madly pouring into the cold, lifeless remains of the massive root! Wherever the light passed, faint, almost imperceptible emerald green dots, like fireflies, lit up in the dry cracks on the root's surface! It was the response of a deeply buried, indelible mark of life!
But this wasn't enough! The light of the Gaia Seed quickly dimmed after its explosion, and Xu Shuangyao's consciousness, overdrawn, quickly slid towards the edge of darkness! Her connection to the seed was like a spider silk about to break!
At the moment when the connection was about to break and the final effort was about to fail——
Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!
The emerald green mark between Xu Shuangyao's eyebrows, like a last ray of light, erupted with its final, most blazing light! This light no longer affected only her, but transformed into countless extremely fine yet incomparably tenacious emerald green spiritual threads, ignoring the distance between them and instantly piercing into the boundless darkness around them... and into the depths of countless other huge, cold, and lifeless root debris!
She was burning the last of her existence, forcibly communicating and connecting all the remaining fragments of the earth's memory belonging to the planet Gaia in this root cemetery!
boom--!!!
It was as if billions of silent stars were lit up at the same time!
With Xu Shuangyao and the roots beneath her palm as their center, faint yet real emerald green lights, like sparks igniting a prairie fire, lit up one after another across the boundless darkness of the root cemetery! Each ray of light represented a faint imprint of planetary life awakened from deep within the wreckage!
These lights echoed and connected with each other. Although weak, they converged into an emerald green light network that could not be ignored! At the center of the light network was the Gaia Seed pressed against the roots!
Countless weak yet tenacious pulsating information flows belonging to the planet itself, like rivers flowing into the sea, madly poured into the Gaia Seed through this light network!
The dying seed, nourished by this vast, planet-originated memory and pulse, was like a withered seedling receiving a gentle rain. Its emerald green light condensed and grew stronger at a visible speed! The mysterious lines on the seed's surface seemed to come alive, flowing with a warm luster! Even a few extremely fine roots, like emerald threads, stubbornly emerged from the bottom of the seed, attempting to penetrate the cold root remains!
Success! She awakened the planet's memories buried deep within the wreckage, providing the "fertile soil" and "resonance" for the Gaia Seed to continue!
However, Xu Shuangyao paid the ultimate price for this. The light of the mark between her eyebrows completely extinguished. Her body, clinging to the roots, slid softly and fell to the cold ground. Her breath was extremely weak, like a candle in the wind. Her consciousness sank into endless darkness, and only a trace of satisfaction and fatigue remained at the corner of her mouth.
