Chapter 49: Hope Spreads

Yun Zhan ignored everyone's stunned gazes. His gaze, like a cold probe, swept through the chaotic crowd, finally landing on Li Shuo and Dr. Qin. Without a word, he dragged his heavy, unsteady feet, one step at a time, extremely slowly but with unwavering determination, through the passage that had automatically parted the crowd, and walked to Li Shuo's front.

He raised his unbandaged hand, holding a small, blood-stained metal data storage device. Dried dark red blood still lingered on the interface of the device.

"Coordinates..." Yun Zhan's voice was as hoarse as sandpaper, and every word was filled with great exhaustion and pain. "Dr. Wen Yuan...'Ark'...complete coordinates..."

He handed the memory to Dr. Qin with difficulty, his body shaking slightly due to weakness.

"Lighthouse... core database... copies... medical... there might be a solution..."

Before he finished speaking, the light in Yun Zhan's eyes dimmed quickly like a burnt-out candle, and his body could no longer support him and he fell forward.

"Yun Zhan!" Li Shuo's eyes and hands were quick, and he caught his fallen body. His touch was icy cold, and Yun Zhan's breath was as weak as a thread.

The entire medical area was dead silent.

All the anger, accusations, and cries were forcibly frozen in front of Yun Zhan's blood-stained data storage device and the words "medical treatment may have a solution."

Ark? Dr. Wen Yuan? Complete coordinates? Medical antidote?

These words combined together are like a thunderbolt that tears through the thick dark clouds and strikes hard at every desperate heart!

Dr. Qin reached out with a trembling hand and took the blood-stained memory device, which seemed to still carry the warmth of the wasteland dust and the life-and-death struggle. His fingers trembled slightly with excitement.

Hope... has it really come?

The wind from the wasteland, with its eternal roughness, swept up the yellow sand all over the sky, dyeing the sky and the earth into a chaotic dim yellow.

Lu Cheneng leaned against a massive rock, countless holes etched by wind, breathing heavily. Every breath pierced his ribs and shoulders, and his throat was thick with the rusty taste of blood. He tore off the lining strips, now soaked in blood and sweat. Gritting his teeth, he clumsily but with unwavering determination wounded the deep, charred wound on his shoulder, visible to the bone. The excruciating pain made the veins on his forehead bulge, and cold sweat streamed down his face like a stream.

Not far away, on the leeward side of a sand dune, Wen Shifei squatted on the ground, her hands rapidly operating the portable terminal on her wrist. The light from the screen illuminated her equally pale yet intensely focused face. The terminal was connected to a makeshift, crude metal antenna, pointed toward the dim sky.

"How is it?" Lu Cheneng asked hoarsely after bandaging the wound. He glanced at Wen Shifei, then vigilantly scanned the rolling yellow sand around him. It had been two days since they left the "lighthouse". Relying on the complete coordinate navigation in the terminal, they trudged through this Jedi known as the "Forgotten Sand Sea". Resources were scarce, injuries were a burden, and even more terrible, Lu Cheneng could clearly feel the cold will that was forcibly suppressed in his body, like a hibernating venomous snake, stirring in the depths of his consciousness as his body weakened and his mental stress increased. The cold touch of the brain wave stabilizer was his only support, but it was also like a pair of heavy shackles.

"The signal is too weak! The storm is interfering!" Wen Shifei's voice was tinged with a subtle impatience, her fingers tapping the virtual keyboard vigorously. "Uncle Li hasn't responded yet! Yun Zhan... I don't know if he delivered the data safely..." Her concern wasn't just about communication, but also about Lu Cheneng's condition. He was even more silent than he had been at the Lighthouse, and the occasional flash of struggle and coldness in his eyes frightened her. She had to contact Firefly as soon as possible. Dr. Qin was the only one who might know how to permanently resolve the hidden dangers within Lu Cheneng!

At this moment, an extremely faint green signal dot on the edge of the terminal screen flashed extremely stubbornly!

"Got it!" A glimmer of hope instantly shone in Wen Shifei's eyes. She immediately adjusted the angle of the antenna, her fingers dancing on the keyboard. "Trying to establish a stable connection... Encryption protocol confirmed... It's the Firefly frequency band! Uncle Li! Dr. Qin! Can you hear me? I'm Wen Shifei!"

Sizzle... Sizzle...

There was a strong electric current interference noise coming from the headphones, which was intermittent and almost indistinguishable from the human voice.

"Shi... Fei... is it... you?... The signal... is... too... bad..." A vague, distorted voice, yet filled with great surprise and relief, struggled to penetrate the noise. It was Li Shuo!

"Uncle Li! It's me! Shen En and I are together! We have obtained the complete coordinates of the 'Ark'!" Wen Shifei shouted excitedly into the microphone, his voice trembling slightly with excitement. "Where's Yun Zhan? Has he returned? Is Dr. Qin here?"

Sizzle... Sizzle...

"...Yun Zhan...is back...seriously injured...but...alive...Dr. Qin...is..." Li Shuo's voice was intermittent, with a lot of interference, "Data...received...'Lighthouse' database...is being analyzed...are you...position...safe?..."

"We're safe for now! At the edge of the Forgotten Sand Sea! The coordinates are..." Wen Shifei quickly reported their current location, and the heavy stone in his heart finally fell halfway. Yun Zhan returned alive! The data was delivered!

"Repeat... coordinates... received..." Li Shuo's voice seemed to have stabilized a little, with an unquestionable power, "... listening... Shi Fei... Chen En... the situation... is very... complicated... Dr. Qin... found... the key... from the database..."
