Chapter 51: New Light

"Guards... Clear..." The cold electronic sound, accompanied by the monster's roar, echoed in the dome space!

Wen Shifei fought back a pounding headache as she watched the three stitched monsters, emitting a thick aura of death, closing in on her. Her heart sank. She drew the alloy dagger from her waist, her eyes icy. A fierce battle was inevitable.

A newly developed energy collection area on the edge of the lower city.

The remains of a massive, outdated wind turbine were re-erected, their blades whistling heavily in the wind. The solar arrays reflected a dazzling light in the sunlight. This was one of Firefly's lifeblood, and Lu Chenentrop was responsible for overseeing its reconstruction and defense.

Lu Chensheng stood at a slightly elevated observation point, watching the workers below, shouting commands, burying a thick cable into a prefabricated pipeline trench. The sun fell on his still pale face, bringing a hint of warmth. He held in his hands a preliminary report on the energy anomalies in the ruins of "Paradise Port," just delivered by the communications corps, and frowned slightly. Shi Fei had gone there... that ruin was too dangerous.

"Consultant Lu!" A young engineer ran up breathlessly, his face brimming with excitement. "Wind turbine number three has been successfully connected to the grid! The output power is stable! Stable lighting will be available in the west district at least three days ahead of schedule!"

Lu Cheneng nodded, his eyes still on the report: "Very good. Notify the maintenance team to increase the frequency of inspections. Especially the core transformer nodes, there can't be any mistakes." His voice was calm, but with a convincing power.

"Yes!" The engineer saluted with a not-so-standard gesture, turned around and ran away.

At this moment, Lu Cheneng felt a sharp, stabbing pain in his temple without warning! It was like being stabbed by an icy awl! He groaned, his body swaying, and he almost dropped the report in his hand. The scene before him instantly blurred and distorted, and the whirring of the fan in his ears seemed to turn into a cold, malicious whisper.

[Threat... Clear...]

An extremely weak, illusory fragment of cold command flashed across the depths of his consciousness!

Lu Chensheng grabbed the metal railing next to him, his knuckles turning white from the strain. He shook his head vigorously, and cold sweat instantly soaked his temples. The brainwave stabilizer emitted a gentle hum, dispelling the momentary cold and stinging pain.

Is it a remnant? Or... a phantom pain?

He took a deep breath, forcing down his turbulent emotions and the discomfort in his body. Shi Fei was in danger, and he couldn't fall. He had to hold on here; this was the light of hope for Firefly.

He stood up straight, his eyes becoming sharp and firm again, looking towards the bustling construction site below and also towards the direction of the ruins of "Paradise Port".

Deep in the ruins of "Paradise Port", under the metal dome.

The battle was fierce but short.

Under the siege of three stitched monsters, Wen Shifei's figure was like a petrel in a storm! Her movements were extremely fast, and every dodge was a dangerous one! The alloy dagger in her hand transformed into a series of deadly cold lights, precisely slashing at the monsters' exposed nerve bundle connections and hydraulic joints!

Swish!

The dagger pierced the nerve node behind the monster's knee! A faint blue spark of electricity exploded! The monster's massive body suddenly froze, emitting a piercing electronic whine!

But the other two monsters' massive cutting blades, with a sharp whistling sound that tore through the air, swept towards her from the left and right! At a tricky angle, they blocked all her escape routes!

Wen Shifei's pupils suddenly shrank! There was no escape!

At this critical moment——

Bang! Bang!

Two extremely dull gunshots, like heavy hammers hitting steel, exploded in the dome space!

The two monsters' crimson sensors shattered, sending out two blinding sparks! Their movements froze instantly!

A figure slid down from the shadow of the light beam that shone through the collapsed dome like a ghost! Fast! Accurate! Ruthless!

The moment he landed, he didn't hesitate at all, like a bowstring stretched to its limit, suddenly releasing! The two strangely shaped, thick-barreled short-barreled pistols in his hands roared again! The bullets were no longer ordinary metal bullets, but cones of blue light with high-frequency vibration ripples!

Boom! Boom!

The light cone hit the energy cores in the chests of the other two monsters with incredible precision!

There was no earth-shattering explosion, only a dull cracking sound and the roar of uncontrolled energy! The chests of the two monsters collapsed instantly, and the blue light flickered wildly and went out. The huge bodies fell to the ground with a loud bang, as if all the bones had been pulled out!

The entire battle process, from the sound of the gunshot to the monster falling to the ground, takes no more than three seconds!

Wen Shifei stood there in shock, watching the three terrifying monsters being dealt with in an instant, and then looked at the figure with his back to her, slowly putting away his two guns.

The figure was unusually tall, clad in combat uniforms so tattered they barely retained their original color, stained with dried mud and dark brown stains. His exposed skin was covered in a crisscross of hideous scars, old and new, like broken porcelain forcibly pieced together. Most alarming was his face—the lower half was covered by a crudely welded metal mask, revealing only the part above the bridge of his nose. Those eyes… hollow, numb, devoid of any human emotion, only a dead, cold silence and… a blankness? Like two bottomless pools of ice.

But the moment Wen Shifei saw those eyes clearly, her heart seemed to be grasped by an invisible hand and stopped beating!

Those eyes... that inhuman, indifferent coldness... She was so familiar with them! So familiar that it was etched in her mind!

It was the look in Lu Chen’s eyes when he was controlled by the pollution source!

No! That's not right! The man before him was even more burly, his aura even wilder and... chaotic! Furthermore, his inhumanly accurate marksmanship, his ghostly speed... Although the styles were different, that inhuman feeling that transcended human limits...
