Chapter 83 Twin Choices

It's too late!

Just as his mind lost control, captivated by that strange perfection, the crown of thorns atop his head suddenly erupted with an unprecedentedly dazzling green light! The light, like a living being, instantly spread down his outstretched arm! At the same time, inside the incubator, the clone's body suddenly opened its eyes!

There were no pupils, no whites! Within the entire eye socket, there was only a pure, cold, emotionless, all-consuming deep green! Those were not human eyes at all; they were the window to the Master of Fungus's will!

"I caught you! A defective piece!" The voice of the mushroom master was no longer full of temptation, but was filled with naked ecstasy of a successful hunt!

boom--!

The countless mycelium tubes coiled around the culture device instantly sprang to life! Like millions of hungry venomous snakes, they launched frantically, instantly wrapping around Pei Du's outstretched arm. Then, like lightning, they wound their way up his arm, wrapping around his neck, waist, and legs! The green light of the crown of thorns merged with the light of the culture device, forming a massive, unbreakable energy chain! Countless tiny, barbed mycelium spikes, like living drills, ignored the hardened thorns on his body's surface and pierced his skin and muscles, even drilling deep into his bones, nerves, and brain!

“Aa ...

His body began to twitch and twist uncontrollably. The muscles in his right arm, entangled in thorns, bulged and expanded wildly, the skin tearing inch by inch, revealing the wriggling, inhuman muscle tissue covered in a black stratum corneum beneath. His left eye was completely filled with green light, which, like a viscous liquid, began to flow down his cheek. Wherever it passed, the skin quickly lost its color, becoming gray and stiff, like rotting bark. His vision began to be filled with endless green and the frantically flashing, cold data streams that belonged to the Fungus Master's will. The consciousness of "Pei Du" was like a small boat in a raging storm, rapidly submerged and swallowed by the boundless darkness and coldness.

"Resistance... is meaningless... give up... become a part of me... gain... eternity..." The voice of the Fungus Lord resonated directly in the core of his consciousness that was on the verge of collapse.

To be eaten...

This desperate thought, like cold venom, injected into his last remaining consciousness.

At the same moment when Pei Du was captured by the clone trap and was madly eroded by the will of the fungus master, Xu Shuangyao on the other side of the throne was also experiencing a storm at the soul level.

The torrent of ancient information that surged back from the depths of the core node contained a terrifying truth that would cause a mortal to mentally collapse. Xu Shuangyao's consciousness was forcibly dragged into a vortex of bizarre, twisted, and shattered illusions:

She "beheld" the dead, cold depths of space. The wreckage of an ancient spacecraft, vast beyond comprehension and unlike anything known to humankind, drifted slowly through the void like the silent corpse of a behemoth. Within the wreckage lay not cold metal structures but countless pale, twisting, proliferating, and merging biological tissues! Like living tumors, they coated and eroded every inch of the ship's structure. Countless vast, pale tubes, like bundles of nerves, pulsed through the tissues, transporting a viscous, green-glowing energy fluid. The entire scene was filled with a madness and deathly silence that defied the laws of life!

The illusion suddenly zoomed in, focusing on the deepest part of the wreckage. Trapped there was a "thing," its form indescribable, so vast it seemed to fill the entire field of vision. It consisted of countless writhing, tangled, pale tentacles, vast vesicles, and constantly opening and closing holes studded with sharp teeth. It seemed long dead, or perhaps, its state of existence transcended the concepts of life and death. Its massive body was studded with countless massive structures resembling starship engine nozzles, slowly and continuously spewing a... green, vibrant... cloud of spores into the cosmic void!

"The Original...Sower..." A cold, inhuman fragment of thought exploded in Xu Shuangyao's consciousness.

Then, the illusion shifted again. She "saw" the spore cloud, after a long interstellar drift, as if by a curse of fate, precisely landed in the ancient ocean of her home planet, Gaia! The spores reacted violently and unpredictably with the planet's primordial life force. Some spores sank into the depths, merging with and transforming into an ancient, collectively conscious marine plant life, eventually evolving into a planet-wide plant network—the forerunner of Gaia's Spirit. Other, more aggressive spores chose a completely different evolutionary path: devouring, merging, and multiplying endlessly... They infected the planet's powerful ancient beasts, transforming their flesh and blood into nourishment for their own growth, ultimately giving rise to the first "Fungus Master"! A terrifying being born from an ancient cosmic plague, rooted in the very essence of planetary life, yet destined for a path of pure destruction and devouring!

The core node of the fungus dome, that huge pale structure... its material composition and energy characteristics are the same as the pale biological tissue in the wreckage of the ancient spacecraft in the illusion...!

The Plant Network (Gaia's Spirit) and the Fungus Master... they actually originate from the same terrifying seeding from deep space! Sharing the same origin yet diverging, like twins, yet each one veers towards the extremes of protection and destruction!
