The bridge shook violently, each jolt like the death convulsions of a behemoth. Emergency lights flickered, illuminating General Raymond's face on the command console, stained with blood and oil, like a granite sculpture. On the main screen, the wreckage of the ten Deep Hunter ships still tumbled and exploded in the cold void. The purplish flames, like the pupils of a dying beast, gazed with resentment at the fleeing human ship. However, a greater terror had taken their place: the Rift Barrier.
It wasn't simple darkness, but a fluid, viscous, cosmic scar that seemed to possess a life of its own. Countless chaotic turbulences of spacetime churned and ripped through it like invisible giant pythons, emitting arcs of dark purple electricity that froze the soul. These arcs weren't pure energy; they twisted like billions of tiny, ever-proliferating purple worms, greedily devouring all matter and order at the edge of the rift, contaminating every space they touched into a sickly, wriggling, swelling purple pustule. It was pure entropy, the ultimate form of all things returning to silence. The mere visual pollution was enough to drive any sane being mad.
"The shield is completely destroyed! The core of the entropic barrier has melted!"
"The temperature of the bow armored area has exceeded the tolerance limit! Large-scale disintegration is occurring!"
"B-7, C-13, D-9... Twelve main pressure compartment sections are experiencing structural stress alarms! They could break at any moment!"
"Main engine overload! Output power is irreversibly declining! Estimated... predicted complete loss of propulsion in three minutes!"
The piercing alarms and desperate reports mingled within the bridge, forming a prelude to death. Each violent tremor was accompanied by the teeth-grinding sound of metal tearing from deep within the hull. Outside the observation windows, the Ark's kilometer-thick armored hull, like iron exposed to strong acid, was warping, melting, and peeling at a visible rate under the chaotic and violent energy turbulence outside the rift barrier! Chunks of alloy shards, ablaze with crimson flames, were torn off by an invisible force and swept into the seething purple abyss behind, instantly devoured and annihilated. The Ark was being dismembered alive!
"General! We can't get through!" The adjutant's voice was hoarse and tearful. "The intensity of the space-time turbulence outside the barrier... is more than ten times the expected value! The Ark's structure can't withstand contact with the core barrier!"
Raymond didn't turn around. His gaze, like welded steel nails, was fixed on the surging purple inferno on the main screen. Sweat, mixed with blood, rolled down his forehead, slid across his taut jawline, and dripped onto the cold alloy console, where it was instantly catapulted away by the violent vibrations. Time… there was no time! The Observer's main fleet could descend at any moment, and the Ark would be completely disintegrated in minutes!
"Owen!" Raymond's voice was like the friction of a grinding wheel, exploding through the internal communication channel in the silent "Origin" Temple. "That kid! Lin Mo! Where's his fluctuation?!"
The temple was in shambles. The massive molten channel running through the center of the ship was madly pouring back a chaotic storm of energy, tinged with purple, electric pollution, from the rift barrier, emitting a ghostly shriek. The energy storm, like an icy razor, sliced through the temple's remaining equipment, plowing deep furrows into the alloy walls. The biting cold and chaotic energy turbulence caused all the instruments to flash wildly and sound alarms.
Dr. Owen was pinned down by several medical personnel beneath the control console, their bodies shielding him from the ravages of the energy storm. His bloodshot eyes fixed on the two vital signs curves on the screen, nearly overlapping the death line. His voice was faint amid the howling storm, yet tinged with a tinge of heart-wrenching madness: "No... no core fluctuation! Lin Mo's vital signs... are clinging to their last breath, relying on the World Tree Essence! Xu Shuangyao... the Frost Mark has completely gone silent! General! The spark... is extinguishing!"
