Chapter 37
After thinking about this, the car stopped right in front of the B&B. Ming Xu looked at him and asked if he wanted to go in now.
Yan Qing got out of the car and for the first time took the initiative to wait at the door for him to park the car.
Mingxu was a little surprised after parking the car, but then he returned to normal: "Do you want to go back and rest for a while?"
"I want something to drink."
Looking at the juice in his hand, Yan Qing shook the cup: "Freshly squeezed juice?"
Mingxu thought of what happened last time and agreed: "Try them. Which one do you like better?"
Yan Qing had no interest in food, and his evaluation of it was just sour, sweet, bitter, spicy, salty, or not cooked enough.
The rich fruity aroma exploded in Yan Qing's mouth. She rarely drank juice of this flavor. She looked at the cup with sparkling eyes, then drank it all in one gulp and handed the empty cup to Ming Xu.
The man is very handsome and acts as a waiter diligently.
"It tastes great, could you teach me how to make it?"
Yan Qing really wanted to learn, so he clasped his hands together, supported his chin with his arms, and stared straight at Ming Xu.
No one can refuse.
Looking at the colorful fruits on the table, most of them are tropical fruits. I didn’t expect that these things would produce such a unique taste when mixed together.
Yan Qing sat at the dining table, looking at Ming Xu who was rinsing the machine not far away, and asked, "Do you squeeze your own juice every day?"
"I used to drink it every day when I was working out, but now I don't drink it anymore."
Yan Qing nodded. Just looking at his arms, he could tell they were very strong. "When I was abroad, I often went to the gym. Sometimes when I got stuck at work, I would do a set of strength training, and my brain would immediately become clear."
She discovered this method by chance and unexpectedly it was quite useful. She didn't put it aside until she returned to China.
"If you don't want to work in the gym at the B&B, you can come to my place." Ming Xu started cutting fruit. His hand joints were clearly visible, and Yan Qing took a few more glances at him.
“That method is not available at the moment.”
Both of them knew it well.
But it's almost October, and I haven't started a new article yet. I've been busy lately and my mind has been lazy. I need to get back on track, otherwise I'll be bombarded with messages from the editor. When Yan Qing thought of the editor's messages, she was filled with resistance. When she was in school, she had a math teacher, and after graduation, there was an editor who would appear from time to time to scare her.
Yan Qing shifted her gaze to the fruit. Although she knew nothing about cooking, she was confident in cutting vegetables and fruit, so she volunteered, "Let me help you cut it."
After washing his hands, he stood in the position where Mingxu had just been. After listening to the precautions Mingxu mentioned, he immediately got into the state.
The cut fruits were neatly arranged. Ming Xu sat on a high chair with casters and stared at Yan Qing intently.
He had never, nor dared to imagine that the present time would appear like this, with the two of them busy in the kitchen, just like their future home.
In a trance, Ming Xu asked the questions that had been in his mind for a long time.
"What did you say?" There was a sudden knock on the door, but Yan Qing didn't hear what Qingming Xu said.
He stood up and walked outside.
After the door was opened, the people outside were about to break in. Ming Xu didn't stop them. The three of them stood in a straight line and looked at each other.
Ming Xu quickly walked between the two of them and introduced Yan Qing: "This is Wang Zhiyun, my childhood friend." After saying that, his face was full of disgust as he looked at Wang Zhiyun, "What are you doing here?"
Wang Zhiyun noticed the impatience in his childhood friend's tone and said, "The rent is due. Please take me in for a while."
"This isn't a homeless shelter."
Yan Qing felt a little embarrassed and wanted to leave: "I have something to do at work, so I'll leave first." As he said that, he put down the things in his hand and was about to leave.
Ming Xu wanted to stop him, but when he saw Wang Zhiyun, he stopped and sent Yan Qing out: "I'll bring you the juice later."
"No need." As soon as the words fell, Yan Qing ran away as if escaping.
Why was she always seen? She was really embarrassed, especially when she saw the man's inquiring gaze.
Looking at the kitchen that was still in working condition, Wang Zhiyun raised an eyebrow at Ming Xu: "Who was that just now?" As he said that, he picked up the cup on the table, but was stopped at the moment when the rim of the cup was about to touch his mouth.
Mingxu snatched the cup, found a dozen disposable paper cups from the drawer, and threw them in front of Wang Zhiyun, saying bluntly, "You use this."
"No way, Mingxu, why are you so stingy now?"
"Then you leave?"
The person who had been looking up reluctantly just now suddenly stopped talking and obediently poured himself some juice from a paper cup, adding a comment: "Not bad."
Mingxu ignored him and sat on the sofa.
Wang Zhiyun put down his cup and came to his side: "Xu, if you don't take me in, I will really be homeless. You know my family's situation. They came to me again, and I had no choice but to give up the house. I really have nowhere to go now. As long as you are here, they won't dare to come to me."
Ming Xu and Wang Zhiyun were elementary school classmates, but he never took the initiative to ask anything about Wang Zhiyun, and most of what he knew came from teachers and parents.
His parents were not in harmony and no one wanted to take care of him. He lived alone in the house, cooking and washing clothes by himself. Because of his parents' affairs, the elders and relatives from both families did not want to be involved in bad luck. Ten-year-old Wang Zhiyun could already cook very well.
The first time I remembered him was on the first day of elementary school. Mingxu was accompanied by his parents. As he was walking up the stairs, he heard people arguing not far away. He hated noises the most, so he pouted and tried to move away, but his mother pulled him back: "Mingxu, your classroom is over here."
The quarrel was getting closer and closer. When the protagonist saw the mother, her mother's words also rang in her ears. There was also a hint of disgust in her tone, but it was because she felt that their quarrel would have a bad influence on the children: "What's wrong with these parents? They quarrel in front of their children."
The crowd of onlookers grew larger and larger. The teacher apologized to other parents and persuaded the two people. Mingxu noticed that there was a little boy squatting at their feet. His hair and body were covered in gray. He was curled up in a ball, quiet and silent, as if everything around him had nothing to do with him.
After a while, the two quarreling people left one after another.
The teacher sighed, reached out and pulled up the child squatting beside him: "Wang Zhiyun, come into the classroom with the teacher."
It's so gray.
Watching the two people enter the classroom, the mother sighed: "The children are so pitiful, and the adults are so irresponsible." As she said that, she glanced at the boy sitting in the classroom. He was such a small ball that if you didn't look carefully, you would hardly be able to find him.
Mingxu's seat was right next to him.
After settling Mingxu down, Ming's mother looked at the little gray ball again, but left without saying anything.
There was no one around, Mingxu glanced at Huipu with the corner of his eye. Huipu buried his head in his arms. Mingxu then reached into his pocket, where there was a candy his brother gave him before he went out in the morning. There was only one piece of candy. He and his brother could only eat it on Mondays every week, but his accidentally dropped it into the trash can. This one was given to him by his brother.
Sensing the movement around him, Wang Zhiyun looked up, as if he saw a beam of light.
He wanted to laugh, but couldn't. He lowered his head again, but when no one was paying attention, he put his hand into his pocket and tightly grasped the things inside.
Many years later, Ming Xu saw a locked iron box in his house. He was a little curious and half-jokingly asked Wang Zhiyun to open it. Unexpectedly, Wang Zhiyun did not refuse. There was only a piece of colored paper in the box.
Wang Zhiyun stood aside, looking at the paper inside. He gently took it in his hand, and his tone was no longer as carefree as usual: "If it weren't for this candy, I'm afraid I would be dead long ago."
It was Mingxu and his family who made him see the light in life. Although the two of them had spoken very few words to each other during the six years of elementary school, Wang Zhiyun still followed his pace closely and tried not to fall behind.
After entering junior high school, Mingxu's lunch was delivered by the nanny. I don't know if he did it on purpose, but every time he had lunch, it was the amount for two people, and the two of them had a tacit understanding.
Later, Ming turned into two lunch boxes.
Looking at the person sitting on the floor, Ming Xu called someone to get a room. "It's not like we're not letting you stay here. Why are you acting so pitiful?"
The man on the ground jumped onto the sofa and resumed his arrogant attitude: "If you don't let me stay, I'll go home to find our mother."
Ever since she learned about the little boy's family situation from the teacher, Ming's mother began to secretly provide him with help, buying him clothes in winter and cooling supplies in summer, no matter how big or small. Even Ming's father teased him that he had a third son.
Ming Xu kicked Wang Zhiyun, asking him to be more serious. "Why did they come back this time? It's been almost twenty years since the divorce. What bad intentions do they have in coming to you now? Seeing that your life is better, are they starting to fulfill their responsibilities as parents? Or are they just jealous of you not doing well?"
He was very angry. These two people gave birth to a child and didn't care about it. Now Wang Zhiyun's life has improved by buying a house and a car, but because of these bad things, he can only rent a house outside. These two biological parents who disappeared for more than ten years appeared again.
Wang Zhiyun comforted him: "It's okay, I can handle it."
"Then what are you doing here?"
"I missed you."
He started to act unruly again and Mingxu stopped talking. No matter how good their relationship was, he was just a friend and it was not convenient for him to interfere in many things.
After seeing Wang Zhiyun off, Ming Xu looked at the messy kitchen and sent a message to Yan Qing.
Yan Qing returned to her room and began to organize various materials for the new article. Now that everything was ready, she could start writing tomorrow. She was very happy. She would save more manuscripts this time, as she would have to devote plenty of time to the cooperation with Director Gu for her wedding in October.
It was almost twelve o'clock when Yan Qing saw Ming Xu's message. After thinking for a moment, he replied.
[Yan Qing]: I was busy just now and was getting ready for bed.
[Ming Xu]: Sorry about what happened today, I will send it to you tomorrow.
Tomorrow? Yan Qing wanted to refuse. If they met, it would definitely delay her writing time, and her mind would fly away again.
[Yan Qing]: I have something to do these days. Let’s talk next time. I’m going to sleep first.
Mingxu's Adam's apple rolled, and in the end he just sent a good night message, but there was no reply from the other party.
Lying in bed, he tossed and turned, unable to figure it out.
Everything was fine today, why did you suddenly refuse to meet me in the evening?
It must be because of him!
Ming Xu clicked on an avatar and vented all his anger towards it.
Wang Zhiyun narrowed his eyes at the inexplicable message, but did not dare to reply. It was obvious that the other party was angry for some reason and was sending it to him.
After venting his anger, Mingxu began to review what happened today. Logically, he shouldn't have rejected her, and it wasn't because of Wang Zhiyun. There were many times when they were together before and Yang Mingzhou had never disturbed her, and she had never been angry. Why did he suddenly change this time?
Is it because of work?
Ming Xu checked Shui Zhiqing's social media platform. He hadn't checked it for a long time and had missed some important news.
[Shui Zhiqing: I've been preparing for the new article since last night, and it will be released soon, so please stay tuned.]
The time is 11:30 tonight.
It turned out to be because he had to work, and he breathed a sigh of relief.
The next day, Yan Qing got up early. She wanted to have breakfast while there were fewer people around and then dive into her work. Unexpectedly, she met Ming Xu, who also got up early.
Looking at the kettle in his hand, Yan Qing said nothing and buried his head in eating.
"Today's freshly squeezed juice." Ming Xu put down the things and left. Looking at her back, Yan Qing felt mixed emotions.
Could it be that you didn’t finish drinking it last night?
The phone suddenly vibrated.
[Ming Xu]: It’s not what’s left over from last night.
This guy really has the ability to read minds.
