Jiang Mingzhe lifted the carriage curtain with a sullen face and saw the person blocking the carriage.
It looks familiar.
"Second Madam! Zhuang Meixue!" Ye Yunniang recognized her at a glance.
Zhuang Meixue?
Jiang Mingzhe looked at the woman in front of the carriage; she resembled Zhuang Meixue from his memory.
Zhuang Meixue never expected that she would see Jiang Mingzhe again in this life.
Fortunately, it was Jiang Mingzhe.
"Mingrui is in trouble, save him quickly."
"His life or death is none of my business." Jiang Mingzhe felt unlucky just hearing the name. "Let's go."
"Jiang Mingzhe, you can't just stand by and watch him die. He's your own brother!" Zhuang Meixue cried out and rushed forward.
The guards held her back, preventing Zhuang Meixue from taking another step forward.
"Jiang Mingzhe, I beg you. Save Mingrui. It's my fault. If you want to kill or torture someone, come at me. I beg you to save Mingrui," Zhuang Meixue shouted.
“You’re not worth it. I’ll take action. Let’s go,” Jiang Mingzhe ordered again.
Ye Yunniang grasped Jiang Mingzhe's hand, "He is An'an's father."
Ye Yunniang didn't know Jiang Mingrui was in danger and didn't care whether she saved him or not. But now that she knows, she's afraid An'an will resent her later.
“If An’an dares to resent you, he’s heartless. You’re better off without a son like that.”
"For An'an's sake, let's save him first. How An'an treats him afterward is up to her." Ye Yunniang grasped Jiang Mingzhe's other hand and shook it gently. "For my sake, will you save his life?"
"Okay." Jiang Mingzhe agreed and ordered his men to rescue the people.
Zhuang Meixue watched as Jiang Mingzhe, who had been so cold-hearted, softened under Ye Yunniang's two gentle words.
Her feelings were complicated; she was happy that Jiang Mingrui was saved, but also uncomfortable with Jiang Mingzhe's coldness towards her and his doting affection for other women.
Zhuang Meixue lowered her head, concealing the turmoil in her eyes.
Jiang Mingzhe arranged for someone to rescue Jiang Mingrui. Ye Yunniang returned to the carriage and continued practicing calligraphy.
Ye Yunniang's handwriting is mediocre.
In between teaching Ye Yunniang how to keep accounts, Jiang Mingzhe also taught her to practice calligraphy.
In Jiang Mingzhe's words, handwriting is a person's face; if it's too ugly, it will affect doing business.
Jiang Mingrui was quickly rescued, along with Ye Yunniang's familiar family members.
"Mother/mother/mother."
Ye Yunniang, who was writing inside the carriage, heard a familiar shout and dropped her brush on the table.
Lifting the carriage curtain, three faces that had been eagerly awaited appeared before me.
Ye Yunniang forgot she was in the carriage and ran towards the children, falling off the carriage in the process.
"mother--"
Jiang Mingzhe caught Ye Yunniang as she fell, acting as a human cushion.
Li Pan's three children ran over.
"Mom, where did you hurt yourself?"
"Mother, where are you hurt?"
"Mother, you've lost weight. It's all his fault for not taking good care of you."
"It's alright." Ye Yunniang got up from Jiang Mingzhe and then pulled Li Ping off him. She helped Jiang Mingzhe stand up.
What are you doing here?
"Mom, I miss you so much."
"Me too."
"Mother, I miss you."
"I miss you all too." Ye Yunniang hugged the three children tightly.
"Mother, why are you with him?" Li Ping didn't have much of a father-son relationship with Jiang Mingzhe.
"Father, why are you with Mother?" Li Pan asked curiously.
"Second," noticing someone, "Dad, how have you been taking care of Mom? She's gotten so thin!"
"As expected, men are all unreliable," Li Ping complained.
“No. I was only able to survive thanks to your father,” Ye Yunniang explained.
“That’s his fault too. He didn’t arrange for someone to take good care of you. Mother, I really think you should find another man,” Li Ping suggested.
“Yeah, all those surnamed Jiang are no good,” Li An chimed in.
“Uncle Mo, he’s actually a decent person.” Li Pan’s last sentence made Jiang Mingzhe’s expression change completely.
"Yunniang, Mother is injured. The doctor is treating her up ahead."
Upon hearing this, Ye Yunniang abandoned her son and went to see Cai Damei.
Li Pan and the other two wanted to go, but Jiang Mingzhe reached out and grabbed them.
"What are you going to do?" Li Pan struggled.
"Let go of us." Li An wanted to go find Ye Yunniang.
"If you dare lay a hand on me, I'll tell my mother not to marry you," Li Ping threatened directly.
“As a father, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen my sons. Of course, I need to have a good chat.” Jiang Mingzhe grabbed the three struggling children and walked towards a small grove of trees.
Ye Yunniang arrived at Cai Damei's place. The doctor was putting a splint on her leg.
"Mother, who hit you?" Ye Yunniang clenched her fists.
"I tripped and fell while walking, no one hit me." Cai Damei looked Ye Yunniang up and down.
There were no external injuries, and she looked well, but she had lost weight.
Ye Yunniang reached out and took Bao Shuyi from Cai Damei's arms; the little girl was fast asleep.
"Mother, what are you doing here?"
"We've come to find you."
"Didn't I send a letter back? Didn't you receive it?" After arriving in Lvdu, Ye Yunniang wrote a letter and sent it to Jiangcheng.
Cai Damei calculated the time; Ye Yunniang's letter of safety was on its way, and she had already set off with the children.
"Mother, you've been reckless." Ye Yunniang wanted to say something to Cai Damei, but in the end, she could only say this one sentence.
“Your fate is unknown while you are away. How can I live a peaceful life in the prefectural government?” Cai Damei told Bao Min what he had been hiding.
If Ye Yunniang was unintentionally targeted and abducted by human traffickers, it's understandable that Bao Min didn't make a concerted effort to find her.
But Ye Yunniang was different; she was kidnapped by human traffickers because she was protecting Cai Damei from disaster.
Moreover, this trouble was caused by Bao Min.
Regardless of the reason why Bao Min abandoned the person behind the scenes.
Cai Damei felt that Bao Min was unforgivable.
"Mother, don't you want Bao Ye anymore?"
"It's not a matter of whether we want it or not. We're not married yet."
"mother,"
"Don't try to persuade me," Cai Damei interrupted Ye Yunniang.
"Shushu is still young."
“The child is too young to be an excuse. I never said Bao Min couldn’t read.” That was the end of it between them.
"If Mother has made up her mind, then so be it." Ye Yunniang supported all of Cai Damei's decisions as always.
"What's going on over there?" Cai Damei glanced at Jiang Mingrui and Zhuang Meixue, who were arguing incessantly not far away.
Ye Yunniang revealed the identities of the two men. She also explained that she had only advised them to save the man out of consideration for An'an.
Ye Yunniang is now feeling fortunate.
"Mother, did you come out without anyone with you? Master Bao only let the five of you, grandmother and grandchildren, go?" Ye Yunniang's good impression of Bao Min continued to decline.
"We hired bodyguards, but they're a bunch of useless bastards. One packet of sleeping pills and they're all knocked out," Cai Damei said with disdain.
The bodyguards not far away hung their heads, not daring to retaliate even as they were being scolded. It was their fault; they had been careless and had drunk the drugged tea, resulting in them being tied up by the bandits and taken into the mountains.
The doctor bandaged up Cai Damei's wound and instructed her not to get it wet, not to move around freely, and to rest in bed if possible.
Ye Yunniang wrote everything down, and then asked the doctor if there were any dietary restrictions, and what foods could help replenish nutrients and aid recovery.
The doctor told Ye Yunniang everything he knew.
As they were talking, Bao Shuyi, who was in his arms, woke up.
