Chapter 11

Chapter 11

Weekends are a great time to stay home.

Lin Tao called early in the morning and said that Jiayi wanted to ask me to go shopping: "Lin Shu is growing up so fast, sister-in-law, do you want to go shopping with Jiayi?"

I was reluctant to leave the recliner, so I followed up on his words and refused, saying, "I just went to a children's store with Jiayi last month. There weren't many new styles. Let's do it next time. By the way, Lin Tao, thank you for your help before. Thank you."

He was clearly stunned for a moment, remained silent for a long time, and finally mumbled a message before hanging up.

The weather is nice today. I'm taking a nap on the lounge chair in front of the floor-to-ceiling window. We've spent many weekends lounging on this chair. It's an extra-large lounge chair, just big enough for two people. I never realized it was so spacious. The air conditioning is on in the room, and I've put a blanket on it. It's just the right temperature, not too hot or too cold.

Jiangjiang was shaking its head on the sofa, carrying its favorite ball in its mouth.

Last time you were too lazy to walk it, and it got so angry that it bit the ball all over with its teeth marks. But lately it's been behaving itself, making the house a bit quieter.

Last month, on a weekend, neither of us wanted to go out. We each had a cup of fruit tea and just sat on the recliner, lost in thought. I rested my arm against your chest, paused for a moment, and then reached into your clothes and touched your abs: "Abs."

You open your eyes, grab my hands and tuck them inside your clothes: "Come on, let's do a routine check."

"That makes me sound like a pervert—with my hair."

You especially liked my long hair. You moved over, carefully tucked my hair to one side, and tidied it up. Then you pulled me over and pressed me against your chest.

"What do you want to eat tonight? My husband will make it for me."

What other dishes are left at home?

"Let me think, green peppers, pork I bought yesterday, eggs, bitter melon, tomatoes, noodles... I think that's all."

"I want to eat hot pot."

"No, get out."

"President Jiang."

"No."

"husband."

"Calling me 'husband' won't work; you need to be more restrained."

"Jiang Jiang~"

“…”

You suddenly rolled over and pinned me down: "Madam Jiang, how dare you provoke the head of the family?"

"I wouldn't dare, Mr. Jiang."

"Woof!"

As luck would have it, the "head of the family," Jiang Jiang, came over with the ball in her mouth.

I thought, "Heaven wants to destroy me."

Sure enough, you glanced at Jiang Jiang and said, "The chicken breast is missing." Then you looked at me, smiling broadly, and like a Sichuan opera face-changing act, you drew out your words in a very long voice: "Wife~~"

My heart trembled: "...No, I don't want this, you can't do this to me, I was wrong, Jia-ge..."

Cold bitter melon salad +1.

They won't let me go to bed at night if I don't finish my food. Is that something a human being would do?

...

I opened my eyes in the afternoon. I washed my face and prepared to make some instant noodles, but I wasn't very hungry.

I slept for too long and have a bit of a headache. Time seems to have stopped, stretching on endlessly, inching forward little by little. It feels like I've lived alone for eternity.

Jiayi asked me to go out for barbecue that evening. I sighed, got ready, and went out.

Honey, do I seem to be causing you a lot of worry?

The summer evening was stuffy. Lin Tao was already waiting at our usual shop, and Jia Yi was there too.

"You're here early! Where's Shuzai?"

He's staying at his cousin's house.

As soon as I sat down, I noticed that both of them were staring at me with rather unfriendly eyes. I touched my face and asked, "What's wrong? Did you not apply your foundation evenly? Were you in a bit of a rush when you came?"

Jiayi hugged me immediately. I was confused and patted her back, asking, "What's wrong, Jiayi?"

"…fine."

The two of them kept me company and chatted about this and that. Both of them were good drinkers, and they got me drunk in no time. Jiayi supported me and let me lean on her.

I saw things a little blurry, so I squinted and said, "Jianian, it seems I forgot to feed Jiangjiang today."

I heard you say, "I'm going back to find a wife. Go to sleep, I'll be home soon."

I closed my eyes and went to sleep.

I vaguely heard someone sobbing softly. When I opened my eyes, the ceiling was spinning. The sobbing was coming from the living room. It seemed I was really home.

I was a little thirsty. I could hear Lin Tao's voice in the living room. They hadn't left yet. It was kind of them to bring a drunkard back.

I got up and walked to the bedroom door, and heard them arguing. Huh? Why are they arguing in our house?

"...Look at her, her face has become so thin. It's only been a month since Jiang Jianian left, what will she do now..."

"Jiayi..." Why does it feel like Lin Tao also wants to cry?

“This house is exactly the same as Jiang Jianian’s home. Except for the kitchen, there isn’t a single vegetable in the refrigerator. Last time we came, Jiang Jianian cooked and the refrigerator was full. Now the pots and pans are almost rusty. The toothbrushes and towels in the bathroom are still for two people, and even the razor is still there. She’s like this because she doesn’t want to live without Jiang Jianian. She’s just waiting to die.”

I heard Lin Tao sigh and whisper something.

Jiayi was crying so hard that she couldn't even control her voice when she spoke.

I wasn't thirsty anymore, so I climbed into bed and went back to sleep.
