Chapter 10 [10]

Chapter 10 [10]

Nemesis

The long strip of lights on the ceiling illuminated the corridor brightly.

The space was quiet, and the words lingered for a few seconds, echoing in Lu Mingxiao's ears.

Luo Hanzhou said that his younger sister was good at making unexpected and surprising remarks, and asked him to be more tolerant of her.

Even though I already knew this, hearing this accusation was still unbelievable.

The little girl puffed out her cheeks, her resentment clearly written on her face.

Lu Mingxiao asked, puzzled, "What did I say that gave you that fiery illusion?"

Luo Qingyue didn't expect that Lu Mingxiao would nitpick over the words.

When confronted with the question, he paused for two seconds before regaining his composure: "The key point is the second half of the sentence."

"Turning your back on me?"

"Um."

Lu Mingxiao patiently explained to her, "You just hid behind Cheng Wang. I thought you needed time to process it, so I didn't disturb you. Now it seems you adapt well. I underestimated you."

Luo Qingyue shook her head and sighed deeply: "It's just a facade. It's necessary to have a further discussion with President Lu."

Lu Mingxiao did not refuse: "If you're not in a hurry to leave, you can come to my office and sit for a while."

Not far away, Cheng Wang leaned against the wooden wall, watching all of this with great interest.

Before Luo Qingyue could answer, he raised his voice and added, "This is the first time our CEO Lu has ever taken the initiative to invite a girl."

Luo Qingyue didn't think much of Cheng Wang's words and answered as a matter of course.

"That's normal, because I'm his good friend's sister."

Lu Mingxiao turned and glanced at Cheng Wang. Cheng Wang knew that this was a signal that it was not a good place to stay.

He smiled broadly and beckoned to Luo Qingyue, "Go ahead, Mr. Lu's coffee-making skills are superb. One cup and I guarantee you'll never forget it."

It's hard to forget, even though it was dark chocolate. Luo Qingyue thought to herself.

Lu Mingxiao's office is on the right.

After watching Cheng Wang leave, Luo Qingyue followed him inside.

The two presidents' offices have two completely different styles.

If Cheng Wang's place is sunny, warm, and relaxing, then Lu Mingxiao's place, with its sophisticated feel created by black, white, and gray, exudes a sense of aloofness and seriousness that is exactly like his personality.

However, the small coffee bar next to the floor-to-ceiling windows still managed to add a touch of life to this otherwise serious atmosphere.

Bottles and jars fill the wall shelves, professional coffee-making equipment sits on the counter, and two pendant lights hang down, illuminating a corner. Though small, it has everything you need and is a very well-equipped space.

Luo Qingyue watched as Lu Mingxiao walked towards the coffee bar.

Generally, one should act as a guest and tell him that they are not thirsty and need not trouble themselves.

Lu Mingxiao then made himself an iced Americano.

Everything before my eyes still felt extremely unreal.

Luo Qingyue stood at the office door without moving forward, her back pressed tightly against the wooden door, silently opening a search engine on her phone.

After reviewing Lu Mingxiao's resume and confirming his identity, he felt regretful—why hadn't he done his homework sooner when there was so much information online?

Lu Mingxiao, holding his coffee cup, walked straight to his desk and saw Luo Qingyue standing there with a serious expression.

"Are you looking to unlock a new career?" he asked.

Luo Qingyue looked at him, puzzled.

Lu Mingxiao placed the coffee cup on the table and continued, "Besides being a barista and a relationship counselor, I think you'd also be suitable to be a doorman."

"..."

His words were laced with sarcasm, but Luo Qingyue held back and didn't roll her eyes at him.

She strode forward, stood on the other side of the desk, and looked directly at Lu Mingxiao: "I've never realized before that you're quite good at telling corny jokes."

Lu Mingxiao sat down in his office chair and asked, "Have you shown the resume to Cheng Wang?"

Having received an affirmative answer, he continued, "If there are any extras, I'll save them here as well."

The resume was well-crafted and contained excellent content. Luo Qingyue was very satisfied and printed ten copies in color.

She opened her backpack, took out a document and handed it over. Suddenly, Lu Mingxiao's phone rang; a call was coming in.

"Wait a moment." After saying this to Luo Qingyue, Lu Mingxiao put the resume on the table, got up and went to the window to receive it.

When I returned, there was a cartoonish girl's signature in the blank space at the bottom right of my resume.

Luo Qingyue's idea was very simple.

A resume this nicely presented will have added value if you sign it.

Since Lu Mingxiao wanted it, she would give him a special one, one that he could treasure.

Because of the paper covering his face, Luo Qingyue couldn't see the expression on Lu Mingxiao's face.

She admired the painted nails she had done the night before, imagining Lu Mingxiao being captivated by her personal charm, and a smile unconsciously crept onto her face.

Suddenly, Lu Mingxiao called out, "Luo Qingyue."

Luo Qingyue looked up, meeting his deep gaze, as if trying her best to get praise: "Am I pretty amazing?"

Lu Mingxiao glanced at the resume, then looked at her and gave a soft "Mm".

"It's their loss that the orchestra didn't hire you as their principal musician and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs didn't hire you as their spokesperson."

"As expected of President Lu, you have a discerning eye."

Luo Qingyue nodded in agreement, "You must believe that with my participation, Mingyue will surely achieve new glory."

Since it was already a done deal, she changed her mindset and accepted it all.

As for the outcome, that's beyond her control; she'll just have to wait and see.

Luo Qingyue was pleased that Lu Mingxiao would applaud her ambition.

To her surprise, he placed the resume in front of her and questioned, "Didn't you notice anything wrong with it?"

Luo Qingyue lowered her head and looked at the resume again from top to bottom.

Lu Mingxiao replied with a blank expression: "There isn't even a single typo."

Lu Mingxiao raised his hand, and Luo Qingyue looked in the direction he was pointing.

I had to practically bury my face in the sticker to make out the light gray, much smaller-than-normal font of the Taobao store's promotional text.

@AAA Start-up Resume Center, the best choice to help you reach the pinnacle of your life.

Luo Qingyue, who was so impressed she was speechless and deeply suspected Lu Mingxiao's eyes were like microscopes: "..."

Regardless of whether the resume is genuine or not, the person in front of him is the first one he has encountered who paid someone to create it.

There should be many more "surprises" in the future, Lu Mingxiao told himself to calm down, stood up and turned around, stopping in front of the standing bookshelf behind him.

He opened the door of the middle storage cabinet and took out two documents.

He put the documents into a brown paper bag and looked down at Luo Qingyue: "Although I have known your brother for many years, he has always protected you very well. I have never seen your photo and do not know your name. So, before you told me that you came to Mingyue, I did not know that you were his sister."

He was explaining why he knew her name but couldn't identify her.

Holding her backpack straps with both hands, Luo Qingyue looked up, still somewhat puzzled: "But the surname Luo is not common. As a top student from A University, didn't you ever make any connection?"

Lu Mingxiao frankly admitted: "I've met people with the surname Luo, not just you and your brother."

Luo Qingyue asked curiously, "Who else?"

Lu Mingxiao accessed his mental memory bank and uttered a name: "Luo Hongtao".

She knows it all too well.

Luo Qingyue blurted out, "That's my uncle."

He runs a wine business and owns wineries both domestically and internationally. Lu Mingxiao has been invited to attend dinners at wineries.

Then he gave another name: "Luo Yingxia".

Luo Qingyue smiled slightly: "My aunt."

Lu Mingxiao, a well-known electrical appliance manufacturer in Dongchuan, had met her at a government-organized meeting with entrepreneurs.

After all this time, we're all family. Luo Qingyue continued, "You're probably even more familiar with Luo Yuanliang; he's my father."

Her father was the most famous person in Dongchuan, and she was very proud of him.

Lu Mingxiao: "Yes, we ran a marathon together."

This was indeed one of her father's hobbies, and Luo Qingyue was not surprised at all.

She sat down in the chair, unable to suppress the smile on her lips. It turned out that Lu Mingxiao was not only connected to her, but also to the Luo family.

However, she quickly steered the conversation back on track: "Since you already knew about me during our conversation, why did you deliberately hide your identity? Are you trying to hold something over me so you can use it against me later?"

Thinking this through, and knowing that Lu Mingxiao had been unfair first, Luo Qingyue became more assertive.

Lu Mingxiao picked up his coffee cup: "You think you can be so easily manipulated?"

"No, not at all."

Luo Qingyue denied it, then realized something, "But you are Mingyue's boss. Who knows if you will do something underhanded behind my back and make things difficult for me? It's impossible to guard against."

Lu Mingxiao took a sip of coffee and sat down again.

"As I said, a boss won't waste time and energy on tattling, so naturally he won't be distracted by scheming against a new employee."

Lu Mingxiao returned to the office to retrieve some documents.

He could have just taken it and left, but he patiently stayed with her to review the situation.

Luo Qingyue said apologetically, "Alright, I was just being petty and judging others by my own standards."

"I didn't take what you said in the chat to heart."

"But imagine if I revealed my identity at that moment, how would you react?"

With her fingers lightly touching her cheek, Luo Qingyue pondered Lu Mingxiao's words.

She turned her eyes to recall carefully, her gaze suddenly freezing: "Escape from Earth overnight in a spaceship."

Lu Mingxiao: "Delete a friend while passing through the atmosphere."

"You know how hard it is for me to help you."

Luo Qingyue firmly denied it, saying, "At most, I'll block you for 72 hours and then unblock you."

These two siblings are really something.

Lu Mingxiao twitched the corners of his lips, and then got back to the point: "You were prejudiced from the start and didn't connect me with Mingyue. No matter when you find out, the level of shock will not be much different in my opinion. I was thinking that instead of me telling you, it would be better for you to find out yourself. Maybe you would feel a sense of accomplishment and the impact would be less. Unfortunately, even though a lot of evidence pointed to it, you still dragged it out until the last minute."

Luo Qingyue: "?"

Where did the evidence come from?

She was completely unaware.

Lu Mingxiao cut to the chase: "Did you sign the damage assessment report from the insurance company without even looking at it? It has my car's model number on it."

"..."

Luo Qingyue reasonably suspected that Lu Mingxiao had installed a surveillance device on her.

After a moment of silence, she asked again, "Anything else?"

Lu Mingxiao recounted the details with great familiarity: "At your best friend's coffee shop, Lao Liu said he would send the magazine sample copies to Mingyue for me when they came out, and you were right next to him."

I'm right across from you.

At the time, Luo Qingyue was so focused on looking at people that she didn't notice anything amiss.

"During our conversation, you never mentioned the interview. How did I know that you needed to make a resume?"

"..."

Luo Qingyue was unable to refute, and the male voice entered her ears again: "Putting all that aside, when you go to a new company, shouldn't you do your homework in advance? There are many ways to get information, and it's not difficult to have a basic understanding."

Lu Mingxiao was like a strict mentor, his words striking at her very core.

Luo Qingyue hung her head: "I finally understand why my brother chose you out of all his friends."

This person practically has the words "Luo Qingyue's Nemesis" welded onto their face.

Lu Mingxiao glanced at his watch; there were still five minutes left before his scheduled departure time.

He looked at Luo Qingyue and gave her his final words of advice: "As your brother's friend, I welcome you to Mingyue. As the president of Mingyue, I hope you will strictly abide by the rules and regulations here. Your identity will be kept strictly confidential by Cheng Wang and me. In short, no matter who you are, rewards and punishments will be handled in an official manner, and you will not have any special privileges."
