Chapter 11 [11]
relaxation
"I said, since you're so welcoming, why don't we book a whole bar to celebrate for me? Then Lu Mingxiao coldly replied that I have the memory of a fish, and I forget what I've heard as soon as I turn my head."
"He clearly said he wouldn't give you any special privileges, yet he still insisted on booking the entire venue. Lu Mingxiao probably never expected that someone would dare to walk right into the line of fire and challenge his authority."
"I was feeling incredibly depressed at the time. I felt like I wouldn't be able to leave the office alive if I didn't create some excitement. And he was very good at it, which made my already depressed state even worse."
The next day at noon, Luo Qingyue invited Jingxi to have Wagyu beef teppanyaki at Wanheng Plaza.
Inside the private room, sitting side by side around the control panel, Luo Qingyue still felt lingering fear when talking about yesterday's interview experience.
Jingxi picked up a thinly sliced piece of beef tongue, her face showing sympathy.
"Don't have any biases towards anyone. This is the first lesson Lu Mingxiao taught you."
"Thinking back to how confident you were when you chatted with him, saying you wanted to follow him, do you wish you could travel back in time and wake up that sleeping version of yourself?"
"Everyone has their moments of stumbling."
Luo Qingyue rested her chin on her hand and let out a long sigh. "The only good thing is that the marketing center I'm going to isn't directly under his supervision. I don't believe that Lu Mingxiao is so busy that he would still be able to send his henchmen over here."
"He's the boss of Mingyue, don't underestimate him."
Jingxi cautioned, "There are still connections involved, so it's not impossible that they'll keep their word and not report you to your brother. So remember, be careful with your words and actions."
Luo Qingyue took a sip of freshly squeezed watermelon juice, gripped the glass tightly, and was furious.
"I, the dignified eldest daughter of the Luo family, have actually been reduced to acting according to the whims of others."
"What's worse is that my brother cut a zero off my monthly allowance."
At the workbench, the chef uses utensils to prepare Wagyu beef, while flames roar on the hot plate.
Jingxi filmed a short video, and only after putting down her phone did she say, "Your brother is a genius. He either doesn't make a move at all, or when he does, it's a big one."
Mingyue, known as the "Whampoa Military Academy" of the automotive industry, offers good benefits but also involves a lot of overtime and numerous rules.
A boss named Juanwang, along with a group of Juanwang employees, created several sales legends in just three years.
This is the useful information that Luo Qingyue received while doing her homework last night.
She understood Jingxi's unspoken meaning.
Luo Hanzhou was serious. This trial was no child's play, so she had to take it seriously and not let her guard down.
The chef flips the whole piece of Wagyu beef over and over.
Then cut it into small pieces, sprinkle with seasonings, and distribute it to the plates in front of Luo Qingyue and Jingxi.
The aroma of the food tantalized her taste buds, but Luo Qingyue didn't touch her chopsticks. Instead, she closed her eyes, clasped her hands together, and made a wish.
When she opened her eyes, Jingxi asked curiously, "Are you praying that the road for cattle and horses will be bright and smooth?"
Luo Qingyue denied it, slowly raising her hand: "Let's broaden our perspective a bit more."
Jingxi shrugged, looking bewildered.
Luo Qingyue picked up her chopsticks, took out a piece of beef, and stared intently.
"I will remember every inch of humiliation I have suffered. One day, when I rise up, I will make my brother and Lu Mingxiao pay for it tenfold!"
——
Because she needed to arrange her accommodation, Luo Qingyue's official start date was set for next Monday.
Luo Hanzhou found three properties in the High-tech Zone, and based on her personal preferences, she chose a fully furnished penthouse on the tenth floor.
On Sunday evening, Luo Qingyue stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, took a picture of the city night view, and posted it on her WeChat Moments.
Cheng Wang happened to see it, clicked on the photo to zoom in, and asked Lu Mingxiao next to him, "From this angle, and befitting the status of the eldest daughter of the Luo family, the only place that is 'Starlight Water Pavilion'?"
Lu Mingxiao and Cheng Wang invited a group of friends to play ball. Their team won and then sat on the sidelines to rest.
The large space was brightly lit. Lu Mingxiao wiped the sweat from his face with a white towel and glanced at his phone screen as he heard the sound.
“And ‘Guanjiangyue’ is also possible,” he replied. “That’s more likely.”
Since they are all high-end residential areas, the fastest way to get an answer is, of course, to ask them directly.
Cheng Wang immediately sent a WeChat message to Luo Qingyue, and she replied quickly: "It really is Guan Jiangyue. I almost thought you two could become neighbors."
Lu Mingxiao pointed to the photo, unsurprised.
“Mingyue Office Building, Yuecheng Tiandi, and Olympic Sports Center are all in a straight line, while Xingguang Shuixie is located on the west bank of the Baipu River. No matter which building or which floor, you can’t get this effect.”
Cheng Wang was truly impressed by Cheng Wang's attention to detail.
He typed a few words in the chat box and sent them out. Upon receiving a new message, he immediately relayed it to Lu Mingxiao.
"Young people these days are so relaxed. I told Luo Qingyue to get some rest, but she said she couldn't. Her childhood friend threw her a party, and she's having a blast at a karaoke bar right now. Back in the day, when I joined Longhua, I would go to bed early the night before, my mind filled with thoughts of not being late the next day, being proactive, and making a good impression on my superiors and colleagues."
Lu Mingxiao and Cheng Wang joined the company around the same time. By the time Cheng Wang left to start his own business, he had already been promoted to sales director in Longhua.
Lu Mingxiao bent down and picked up the electrolyte water next to the bench: "Luo Qingyue came here just for fun, unwillingly. How could you be the same as her?"
The players left the stadium and came over to say hello.
After the person left, Cheng Wangcai said, "So these past two days I've been thinking about what position to place her in. Should I marginalize her and just assign her some simple tasks, or should I let her truly integrate and give her pressure and intensity?"
This is a very realistic problem.
After Lu Mingxiao finished drinking the water, he threw the plastic bottle into the trash can and walked towards the locker room with Cheng Wang.
"Mingyue doesn't tolerate idlers. If you can't integrate, what's the point of coming?"
Cheng Wang pressed the handle, pushed open the locker room door, and instantly severed all ties.
"I don't care, if Luo Hanzhou blames you, you'll take the blame."
Lu Mingxiao glanced at him sideways: "Is that all you've got?"
Cheng Wang opened the wardrobe, then suddenly remembered something.
As he took off his basketball jersey, he asked Lu Mingxiao, "Luo Qingyue is the first person to dare block your way at Mingyue. Wasn't the day she went for her interview the first time you met?"
Lu Mingxiao gave a soft "hmm": "Who would have thought that everyone with the surname Luo is a relative of hers?"
"?"
Cheng Wang thought he was going to start talking, so he immediately perked up his ears.
However, after changing his T-shirt and closing the wardrobe door, Lu Mingxiao changed the subject.
"If you're late on your first day of work, that would be a feat that will go down in history. I'm reminding Luo Qingyue to go home early and not stay out too late."
——
Even without Cheng Wang's reminder, Luo Qingyue planned to leave at 11 o'clock.
She didn't have any grand ambitions to leave a good impression on her superiors and colleagues; she simply didn't want to give Lu Mingxiao any leverage over her being late on her first day of work.
Having a great time at the party, Luo Qingyue went straight to sleep when she got home. She also slept very well, enjoying a peaceful night's rest.
Mingyue's work hours start at nine o'clock. She set five alarms, and at seven o'clock in the morning, she dragged her sleepy eyes out of bed.
The gloomy atmosphere of yesterday has faded, and the weather in Dongchuan is sunny today.
Luo Qingyue stretched and drew back the bedroom curtains; the sun was already peeking out.
After washing up, she went to the kitchen and heated up a sandwich for breakfast.
It took a whole hour to choose clothes, style my hair, and do my makeup. By the time I left the house, it was already past eight o'clock.
Luo Hanzhou deprived her of the right to use the Maybach at home.
Luo Qingyue hailed a ride on her phone and walked to the entrance of the residential area, where the car arrived just in time, accompanied by the fresh air.
It only takes fifteen minutes by taxi from Guanjiangyue to Mingyue Park.
Luo Qingyue thought she was doing well, but she overlooked the fact that it was rush hour.
The car was stuck on the Changhong Elevated Road, moving at a snail's pace.
Luo Qingyue leaned against the car window, knowing that panicking would be useless. Holding her phone, she scrolled through her WeChat Moments, Weibo, and Xiaohongshu, completely resigned to her fate.
Fortunately, traffic began to flow smoothly after ten minutes, and all the traffic lights were green after exiting the elevated road.
At 8:50, Luo Qingyue arrived at the Mingyue office building without incident.
Since I haven't completed the onboarding process yet, my face hasn't been entered into the recognition system, so I still need to ask the receptionist to manually open the gate.
Luo Qingyue walked towards her. The receptionist, with her sharp eyes, recognized her even though they had only met once before.
Luo Qingyue wore a light gray preppy outfit today, with a skirt and a matching shirt, and her hair was tied up in a bun.
A bright and beautiful girl is always pleasing to the eye. The sleepiness is driven away, and the receptionist gets up to offer assistance.
Luo Qingyue had just passed through the turnstile when she heard a female voice drift from behind her: "Hello, Mr. Lu."
Having learned from past mistakes, she naturally couldn't imagine Mr. Lu as someone else again.
However, after the interview, she made up her mind to avoid her "nemesis".
With this thought in mind, Luo Qingyue quickened her pace, stepped into the elevator without looking back, and pressed the elevator up button.
The elevator doors opened, and as soon as she stepped inside, she turned to face the doors, her tall figure coming into view.
Lu Mingxiao was wearing a rather unoriginal suit jacket over a white shirt, and the person next to him was probably his assistant.
There were four elevators in total. Luo Qingyue thought that Lu Mingxiao wouldn't ride with her, but things didn't go as planned. Lu Mingxiao actually brought his assistant in.
With no way to avoid it, Luo Qingyue raised her voice, enunciating each word clearly: "Mr. Lu, hello!"
He then took two steps back, clearing a space in front of him, and gestured for him to proceed.
Lu Mingxiao and his assistant stood in front of her like two giant Buddhas.
The stairwell doors slowly closed, and Luo Qingyue heard a deep voice from ahead: "Not bad, it really exceeded my expectations."
After a two-second pause, Luo Qingyue realized that the words were directed at her.
She chuckled lightly and made no attempt to hide it: "I knew you were waiting for me to be late so you could make a note of it in your little notebook. Luckily, I anticipated that and didn't get your wish."
Lu Mingxiao said calmly, "I hope you can maintain this level of success, rather than just having a flash in the pan."
Luo Qingyue said confidently, "Don't worry, absolutely not."
This girl looks unfamiliar; she must be new here.
But Mr. Lu's reaction suggested that they were somewhat familiar with each other.
Xiao Xie stood aside, silently observing the two's movements.
Luo Qingyue stared at Lu Mingxiao's retreating figure and suddenly asked curiously, "Aren't you the famous 'King of Scrolls'? How come you've ended up arriving at the same time as me?"
As Mr. Lu's spokesperson, Xiao Xie turned his head and told her in a low voice.
"General Manager Lu arrived at 7:30; he had just returned from inspecting the production workshop."
Respect. Luo Qingyue said "Oh" and gave a thumbs up.
The metal wall reflected her every move, and Lu Mingxiao should be able to see it.
The elevator went up and quickly arrived at the tenth floor.
This is where the Human Resources Department is located; Luo Qingyue needs to go there first to complete her onboarding process.
The elevator doors opened, and Lu Mingxiao and Xiao Xie made way for her.
Luo Qingyue walked out with light steps, turned to face Lu Mingxiao, and waved to him with a smile.
"Take care, Mr. Lu, goodbye."
Their eyes met, and Lu Mingxiao tugged at the corner of his lips, recalling Cheng Wang's words.
Young people these days... are really quite relaxed.
[Author's Note]
Cheng Wang: I remember someone saying that if you're afraid of workplace injuries, you won't get involved in this matter.
Xiao Xie: Could this be...?
