Chapter 312 Canvas in the Sunlight

It was already late at night when we left Mrs. Sabrina's house.

After leaving the mansion, the path leading to the gate from the courtyard was lit up with pale golden morning glory lanterns on both sides, lighting up the road in the night.

"Thank you for your hospitality, ma'am. It's getting late, and I should go back."

After walking down the steps, Jelann turned back and simply bowed to the noble lady standing in front of the mansion door, then walked into the flickering night followed by several knights.

Watching the son of the griffin slowly leave the courtyard, get on the carriage, and then the wheels turn and leave in the quiet night, it was a long time before Sabrina turned around and went back to the house.

The hall was still brightly lit, with several maids guarding the corners.

After returning to the hall, Sabrina sat on the sofa, crossed her legs, held the wine glass, and sipped it slowly, her eyes fixed, thinking about the conversation she had just had with Jelan.

Honestly, as a conservative, she didn't trust humans outside the forest, let alone the notoriously treacherous human nobles. But the situation wasn't easy. According to current intelligence, the liberal faction had a slight advantage in the five trials. If they were completely defeated this time, they would lose all control of the forest.

This wasn't just a decline in influence; it involved many other things. The Gilded Crown, the faction she led, was famous for its luxury goods within the empire. If it became a marginal, unappreciated faction, the luxury brand it carried would lose much of its allure.

It is a very simple truth that people will not worship or promote things that fail and are weak. This also means that once the conservatives fail, her faction and the crown will continue to weaken.

"Do I have to look at that guy's face and beg for mercy from now on?"

When Sabrina thought of Westena, who was at odds with her, she felt annoyed and irritated, and simply drank the red wine in her hand.

"Pack your things, close the door, and refuse to see anyone who comes tomorrow."

"Yes, sir." Several elf maids quietly and diligently cleaned up the hall.

Let’s stop here for today, Sabrina rubbed her temples and felt that she should visit some old friends tomorrow to discuss this matter.

Should we cooperate with the eldest son of the griffin?

It's really troublesome.

After returning to his residence, Jelan took off his coat and was about to take a hot bath to relax when he heard footsteps coming from outside the corridor.

"I would like to see Lord Jelann." The man in black robe said this after being stopped by the two knights guarding the door.

Not long after, a slightly tired voice came from the room, "Forget it, let him in."

"Yes, Your Highness." Two White Lion Knights holding halberds made way.

After entering the room, Morag saw Jelann with his back to him. He was leaning on a chair, looking at the night outside the window. The evening breeze blew gently, lifting the curtains from time to time, and the orange candlelight stretched the shadows of the objects on the table.

"Your Highness, what is the result of today's negotiation?" The man in black robe suppressed his anxiety and asked in a calm tone.

"Well, it's basically going well." Jelann closed his eyes and leaned back in his chair, answering casually.

"Well, that's good. Did the woman give any answer or promise?"

"Not yet. Conservatives are very wary of outsiders. But I can see that she is moved. I guess she will contact us in a few days."

"If you have nothing else to do, please leave."

"Yes, I'm sorry to bother Your Highness." After receiving a satisfactory answer, the man in black robe responded respectfully and then slowly left the room.

"Is this guy really just an aide, huh..." Long after Morag left, Jelann slowly opened his eyes, looked at the courtyard in the night, and said casually.

"Forget it, I'll investigate him in detail later. I'm tired today." Jelan thought to himself and stood up.

"Is the hot water ready?"

"It's ready and can be used at any time." The knight beside the door leaned over and replied.

"good."

Although he was born into a noble family, Jelann was not a sociable person. For him, dealing with old-fashioned elven nobles like Sabrina was really troublesome and he was not good at it. Today's negotiations made him physically and mentally exhausted.

At the same time, in another corner of the forest.

Blue-calyx corollas and indigo-dyed streets.

A carriage was moving forward on the street at night. The sound of the wheels turning and rolling on the stone slabs was particularly clear, and even the sound of small stones flying and rubbing could be heard.

Soon after, the carriage stopped in front of an apricot-yellow house.

The car door opened, and a man in a dark suit and a wide purple velvet hat got out. The hat was decorated with a few tied irises, giving it a certain elegance, which was exactly the current popular dress style in the forest.

"This is it."

He took out a silver coin from his pocket, handed it to the coachman, slowly walked up the steps, and knocked on the door. Soon someone came to open the door and welcomed him in.

"You're back so late, where have you been?"

In the room, his wife with long light blonde braids helped him take off his coat and then asked with a hint of complaint.

"I had some drinks with friends and celebrated." The man explained casually, then sat down in a chair, looking a little drunk.

"Oh, enough talking. The festival is next week, and you will be on stage as the chief priest. You'd better get ready in advance." His wife brought hot water, wiped his face briefly, and then went back to sleep.

Anyway, once he sobers up, he will go back to sleep on his own. I've gotten used to it over the years.
