Chapter 55 First Visit

The junction of the sky and the sea was white. An orange sun slowly rose from the sea, and then gradually turned into a blazing golden white, as if it had just truly woken up from a nap.

The white building stood five stories high, with a prominent cylindrical center, flanked by rectangular blocks, and two large cubes at the ends. This was the general shape of the building, though each side had only four stories, while the center had five, topped by a graceful prismatic spire. The building was predominantly white, with dark purple roof tiles and corners, reminiscent of the Bavarian style that Lorain Hill remembered.

Loran Hill's room was on the left side of the third floor. Outside the window, birds were singing cuckoo-cuckoo in the spruce trees. The white light from the sky shone through the gaps in the dark curtains. The girl was sleeping on the bed in a white nightgown, her silky hair scattered on the pillow, the thin blanket, and between her white collarbones.

After the sun slowly rose, it was a long time before the girl reluctantly opened her eyes. She had actually been awake for a while, but still didn't want to get up. After sleeping in the tent and the carriage for a long time, she finally lay on the soft bed again. A faint sense of satisfaction and happiness came from every corner of her body.

Well, I better get up. After all, I don't live alone. I can sleep as long as I want, but I still have to pay attention to my appearance. As she thought this, she slowly pushed herself up from the bed, shook her head to wake herself up, and then opened the curtains. The bright light from the sky illuminated the warm bedroom.

After sitting in front of the dressing table and fixing her hair briefly and tying a hairband, she remembered that this was her new bedroom and she didn't know where her clothes were. She looked around and then opened the white wardrobe next to her. A wide variety of dresses appeared in front of her, which made her a little overwhelmed.

Was this prepared for her? The problem was that she only arrived yesterday, which meant it must have been placed before she entered the bedroom last night. But how would they know her body proportions? I only showed up at the Chamber of Commerce headquarters last night, right?

Loran Hill randomly picked out a few pieces of clothing to try on, and they unexpectedly fit her perfectly. They didn't look like generic styles at all, but were instead tailored to her body proportions.

How did they do it in advance? Wait, there is a time difference. When she showed up at the headquarters, it was just getting dark, and when she came back to rest, it was almost dawn. There was a time difference of nearly five hours. Is this professional?

Thinking carefully about the managers I met yesterday, there were several from clothing workshops. Maybe they were the ones who made the secret preparations. I'll know when I ask Chelsea and the others.

No longer thinking about these flattering actions, she chose a slim-fitting dress that was mainly white. This dress was more in line with her aesthetic taste. It was simple with just the right amount of light blue decoration.

There were also some elegant Rococo-style long dresses in the wardrobe. They were bell-shaped, with curved petticoats, layers of patterned pleats, and a trailing train. This style was currently quite popular among the West Wind nobles, but Roland Hill was not very fond of it. He simply felt that it was too restrictive and inconvenient, like an exquisitely decorated colorful vase, which was only beautiful to look at, but not comfortable to wear.

After a quick make-up, she pushed open the bedroom door. Four maids were already waiting outside. This was the result of her request yesterday. According to Chelsea's standards, 12 was the norm. The girl lamented this waste of manpower. She didn't need the number of servants to show her status, but considering that she was unfamiliar with the place and needed someone to lead the way, she had originally intended to keep only two.

"Good morning, Miss."

The four maids bowed their heads. They were all good-looking and young. They held towels and other things in their hands and then led the girl to the bathroom.

Breakfast was cranberry bread and honey tea. After a simple meal, Loran Hill began to ask the butler Ceres some questions.

"How is Mr. Angus's other child and his mother doing now?"

"They live in a loft at 209 Gladiolus Street in Hopeland. The security there is very good. Yesterday, we urgently sent some people to the surrounding area for covert protection."

"Well, prepare an inconspicuous carriage. I will pay a secret visit today."

"Yes, Miss."

After returning from Loran Hill, the Carlites Chamber of Commerce ended its previous uncertainty and anxiety. Various orders began to be distributed from headquarters to distant branches, informing them of future arrangements and decisions. One by one, the carriages of the stewards dispersed from the massive headquarters, and an ordinary carriage was also mixed in.

Loran Hill draped a black robe over her dress before boarding the carriage. The wheels rolled over the bluestone streets, turning several corners before arriving at Gladiol Street. This was where the nobles of Hopelander had lived in the early years. After Verga's independence, most of the nobles withdrew, and those who remained were bought by wealthy individuals. The area has always been safe. However, Hopelander's true prominence wasn't here, but in the spacious courtyards to the west. Those courtyards were built after Verga's founding and were newer and more appealing in style.

Loran Hill got off the carriage, and then Ceres, dressed in a formal butler's uniform, went forward and knocked on the door. Two elite guards dressed as servants stood beside the carriage, blocking the view of others intentionally or unintentionally.

The door creaked open. Under the strong sunlight at noon, the woman in the room seemed to be unable to open her eyes. It took her a while to recognize the housekeeper.

"Hello, Madam Meera. I am from Ceres. I used to follow Lord Angus. Do you remember?"

"Hello... I remember you as a respectable person who has helped me and my child a lot."

"You're so sorry. I'm only helping you according to Lord Angus's instructions. This is nothing."
