Chapter 939: Knight of the Lake

"You came to me, what do you want me to do?" His voice was hoarse, and although it sounded dry, at least he could still speak.

"You are a very smart person, worthy of being my chosen chess piece." The petite figure nodded, then took off her hood, revealing silver-purple hair, and a pair of gorgeous silver eyes bloomed in the dark night.

"You need a new master." The maid lifted her skirt, bent down, and looked down at the man who was rotting like a corpse. Her touching voice was so natural, as if it should be so.

"Heh." The figure in the cell sneered and then fell silent.

"I'm already a useless person, ruined and disgraced. Who can I work for?"

"That's right, you are disabled. But I can repair you a little so that you can continue to make use of your remaining energy and become a useful tool." The maid's voice was so arrogant.

"What can you give me? Or why should I trust you?"

"Your wife and children are still alive." The maid only said this, and the almost rotten body began to struggle, crawling on the ground like a piece of rotten meat.

"Really? Really? You didn't lie to me."

"No, this is just a simple matter for us." After saying that, the maid stood up, and another mature maid beside her nervously took out a hidden gem from her waist pocket.

She spread the gem out and placed it in the palm of her hand, and immediately a moving image emerged.

In the picture, a woman wearing a headscarf is holding a child, looking slightly nervously towards the front of the picture. Judging from where they are standing, it seems to be a village near the forest, with a few houses built of mud bricks around.

There was no sound on the screen, but the woman seemed to say something, and judging by her lip movements, it was clear she was offering words of comfort. 'Don't worry, the child and I are fine...'

Looking at the figure in the picture, the dark shadow in the cell seemed to be crying and laughing, with a strange voice and tears in his eyes.

"Ah, ha... uh... uh... uh." He gasped for breath, and another faint smell of blood emanated from his body.

"Okay, now you should be satisfied." The maid with silver-purple hair asked her companion to put the gem away.

"Yeah." The figure lowered his head again, his breathing gradually calmed down, as if he was thinking about how to make his wish come true as much as possible.

"There's one question you haven't answered for me." His emotions gradually stabilized, and he raised his head again, staring at the petite maid in white silk stockings with his bright eyes.

"It's really troublesome, but you are lucky today. I still have a lot of patience. After all, I have to share the worries of my lovely master." The maid lifted her skirt and took out a special badge pinned on the side of her thigh.

A sharp crescent moon, one corner a vibrant crimson, the other faintly emerging from the misty patterns. This was the symbol of the Dark Moon Clan, representing this special organization that had served the royal family for nearly a thousand years.

Staring at the badge intently, feeling the coolness that was revealed on it intentionally or unintentionally, the man suddenly laughed.

"Haha, ha, haha, in the end, it's still like this... Still like this... His voice was bitter, and he nodded helplessly."

"Yes, I understand." His tone was full of emotion and sighs, as if he had accepted his fate.

"Very good, that's it. Now, pledge allegiance to your new master." After saying that, the maid finally made way, took a few steps back, and let the young man come forward.

"You don't need to know his name for now, just swear an oath." After saying that, the maid put her hand on the boy's shoulder to let him go forward with peace of mind, until his toes touched the bars of the cell.

The man raised his head and took a quick glance before he stopped paying attention. He slowly lowered his defiant head until it finally touched the cold and hard stone surface.

Damp vapor came from his forehead. He looked at the tip of the leather shoes vaguely visible in the darkness, slowly moved forward, touched them, and then murmured.

"I swear allegiance to you and become your loyal servant and fang until the end of the world."

As the man swore, the maid whispered a reminder into the boy's shoulder, her warm words seeming to lick his ears.

"I forgive your sins and allow you to wield a sword and mount a horse once again." He repeated the words taught by the maid beside him.

"Fight for me once more, Darcy, the star general of the empire."

The wind blew across the high sky, passed through the snow-covered mountains and forests, passed through the green earth and prosperous cities, and after meeting the moist water vapor in the south, it finally turned into a loud thunder and continuous drizzle began to fall.

After the summer, Loran Hill went out much less frequently. Now she was sorting out information about Dragon Horn Province in her room, while a banquet was being held in the hall next door. All the guests were famous nobles from Dragon Horn Province.

"Please welcome the host of Viscount Wenlani, the beautiful Miss Gweil~" Amid the host's introduction and applause, a beautiful noble girl slowly walked down the stairs holding her dress.

"Oh, what a beautiful girl."

"As expected of a descendant of the Wenlani family."

"It's a rare sight, it's such an honor." Many nobles admired the girl's beauty.

"I'm glad you all came to my house. Due to the previous war, I'm afraid I haven't been able to provide a good hospitality. Please forgive me." Gweil said the words she had prepared in advance, greeting them softly and naturally.

"How could it be so abundant?"

"that is."

"Indeed." The nobles present naturally knew what happened to Viscount Wenlani at the end of last year, so they were not surprised. Instead, they were even more surprised that this family could recover so quickly.
