"Half of the militia from each village went with them, as a testament to the leaders. The hunters have been in the mountains for 10 days, and we only received news today. Who knows if they're still alive?" Zong Li complained. "Captain Four showed up to look for the leaders, even the political commissar. If they're gone, sending them back to the village will cause chaos."
"Boyuan is very ambitious. I heard that the vice-chairman of the commune is going to be promoted?" Lu Bairen had his own news channels. Looking at Lu Boyuan's actions, he couldn't help but sneer in his heart.
"Old man, the leader told you not to worry. He can handle it and will not let the farm be in danger." Zong Li remembered what Lu Shiyi said before he left the farm.
Lu Bairen nodded at him: "When Ayi is busy in the future, you can come over to deliver the message. Go to Xiaojin's place tomorrow and tell her not to worry about this place."
"Yes!" Zong Li responded with a salute.
After Yang Bo saw Zong Li off, Lu Bairen sat on the main seat holding a teacup, while Du Ruo packed up the chess pieces.
"The clan elders had just finished making things difficult for us and had a falling out over food and snacks, and now Lu Boyuan has started looking for trouble." Du Ruo complained.
In the early morning of the third day, Lu Shiyi stood in front of his house, covered in frost. He climbed over the wall and entered the yard. Tianying was looking at the yard from the tree outside the yard. When he found that it was Lu Shiyi who broke in, he shrank back into the tree and stayed there.
Lu Shiyi stood in the yard and made a gesture to the other party.
Pushing open the door, Lu Shiyi walked in quietly. He took off his training uniform and changed into casual clothes, then stood in front of the heated kang to warm his hands.
The mother and son slept on the kang, and Lu Shiyi felt instantly relaxed.
After hearing the noise, Su Jin opened her eyes and looked at Lu Shiyi in a daze.
"Wife, I'm back." Lu Shiyi murmured in a low voice.
"Has the situation in the mountains improved?" Su Jin sat up. "Have the hunters been found?"
Lu Shiyi sneered, "Some of the hunters were not found, and three of them are probably dead. Several village chiefs have gone there, and are now cleaning up the mess with Lu Boyuan at the brigade headquarters."
After Su Jin got dressed, she went to the kitchen next door to make breakfast for Lu Shiyi.
"Wife, you haven't been home these past few days. I asked Zong Li to come visit Grandpa and Grandma and our family every day." Lu Shiyi put his arms around her waist and rested his chin on her shoulder. "From now on, don't get involved in what's happening down the mountain."
Su Jin paused for a moment and said softly, "Ayi, I stayed at the farm for the past two days and went out occasionally. I heard Sister Yunfeng mention something."
Lu Shiyi listened quietly to Su Jin's explanation. It turned out that Yunfeng had been to the county town and heard a lot of news from the brigade. Some villagers mentioned that the people on the farm could have enough food and clothing.
The villagers were starving and freezing at the foot of the mountain, and they felt quite unbalanced because because of the rumors, the elderly people in the cowshed in each village had suffered.
"If Lu Boyuan can't do this well, the food shouldn't be distributed to the villagers. The logistics people saved it from the team members' mouths. They ate the food and still gossiped." Lu Shiyi snorted.
Su Jin reached out and tugged at Lu Shiyi's sleeve: "Just say a few words at home, don't say these things carelessly."
"Wife, you're right. Things are bad outside again." Lu Shiyi had just returned and heard Wu Jun mention that Lu Shiyi and Lin Zitao were going to the county to report for duty tomorrow and that there was an internal meeting at the armed forces department. "Let's go back to the family compound tomorrow. I'm going to the meeting. You and Sister Yunfeng can move in with the children. It's better to keep you by my side."
Su Jin accompanied Lu Shiyi for a midnight snack and then went back to her room to sleep.
At 6:30 in the morning, the emergency signal sounded again. Lu Shiyi quickly turned over, put on his training uniform and went out.
Opening the gate, Lin Zitao looked at him with a gloomy face.
"Shi Yi, something happened. A group of villagers went to the armed forces to cause trouble, and a woman committed suicide when she returned!" Lin Zitao sneered. "Captain Liu has returned from the imperial capital, and his words hinted that we'd better have a reasonable explanation."
"Tell the truth, we approved this food for the safety of the farm. The other teams are too far away from the farm." Lu Shiyi spread his hands. "Why is there an emergency call for assembly? Are there more people going into the mountains?"
Lin Zitao looked at the team members who were preparing to enter the mountains in the distance, wiped his face, and let out a long breath.
"The weather has been cold since the beginning of this year. People often pass by the market around the farm. They are all old hunters from various villages. They go into the mountains together, just like before the founding of the People's Republic of China." Lin Zitao informed Lu Shiyi of the situation. "When there is more food on the black market, the people in the county will stock up on it. The village is too far away from the black market, so we don't get the news until the afternoon, and by the time the villagers rush there, the food has almost been bought."
Lin Zitao stood beside Lu Shiyi and thought that he had done the right thing. Liu Chuchang came with orders from above to inquire about the news. They gave reasonable answers, so the higher-ups should not make things difficult for them.
Old Deng and Old Wu were in a bad situation, and the people in the cowsheds of the other brigades were also living a bad life. They could not help much, and the villagers were keeping a close eye on everything. If the team members went to deliver food in the middle of the night, someone would go and search it out the next day.
Later, I learned from the elders that villagers from the other five brigades would go to the cowshed to search for things every day, and the brigades leaders would occasionally lead their team members there.
Not beating or scolding them, but simply taking away their food rations is undoubtedly forcing them to death.
"Tell Achang about the situation of the five brigades. How can the elders not blame us when the elderly people nearby die?" Lu Shiyi pondered for a moment and decided to report it in advance.
"You're right. We can't take the blame for others." Lin Zitao followed Wu Jun and Lu Shiyi, cautiously, believing the Lu family's achievements wouldn't protect him forever. "The Emperor secretly passed on the news that my sister-in-law was right not to let Elder Lu go back to translate the book this time."
