School started in mid-March. Su Jin attended her first math class and wrote the words "Su Jin" on the blackboard.
"I'm your first-year math teacher," Su Jin said, holding out a math test paper. "You're all entering junior high school from elementary school. You're all good students in elementary school. After a semester of adaptation and a winter break for review, you should be able to make some progress."
The students nodded and waited for Su Jin to hand out two math test papers.
"One of them covers fifth-grade knowledge, and the other covers the first semester of first-year junior high. You're all new to me, so taking these tests will help us get to know each other." Su Jin handed out the papers while observing the five students who were left behind. "You're all starting at the same level before me. There will be monthly exams and weekly tests. Your performance will change based on your academic performance."
The students felt warm in their hearts when they heard Su Jin's words. In the eyes of other teachers, students who did not perform well in exams were considered bad kids.
"Teacher, can we change seats?" Several students who performed well in the exam didn't know why Su Jin wanted to do this.
"Yes, seats will be changed according to grade ranking. The last student will be in the first position, and the best students will be in the back," Su Jin introduced in front of the public. "The teacher hopes that everyone can use this semester to lay a solid foundation for junior high school. You must cherish the learning opportunity you have now."
"Teacher, we can't hear the class if we're sitting in the back." Several students complained, "We only had trouble changing seats in math class."
"Classmates should help each other. I believe everyone wants their classmates not to fall behind." Su Jin looked at the children in deep thought, and the eyes of several students who were repeating a grade lit up.
They are no longer seen as outsiders by their teachers, but someone truly cares about them.
"Teacher, you and Teacher Gong have discussed it. We in Class 1 of Grade 7 should unite and help each other as you said." The students laughed happily.
"Okay, let's do two tests in this class." Su Jin watched the test papers being distributed to each student, and she also took a high school textbook and looked at it.
The whole class fell silent, and anticipation filled the students' eyes.
When the bell rang, Xie Li, as the math class representative, collected all the test papers and sent them to Su Jin's office.
"Xie Li, you're the math class representative. I'll write the math homework on the blackboard at the end of class, and you'll have everyone copy it down before leaving." Su Jin patiently instructed Xie Li after taking her test paper. "Also, read more at home. Regardless of whether you can continue to go to school in the future, don't deliberately drop your textbooks."
Xie Li is the best student in the class, but she has a younger brother at home. Her parents are soldiers and do not favor boys over girls. However, her grandmother is an old lady from the countryside.
"Teacher, my grandma has been sent back to the village. She can go to school on time from now on." Xie Li looked at Su Jin gratefully. "Even my mother thinks what you said in the yard is right. For the good of the child, a mother must be strong."
"This milk candy is for you. I hope you can cooperate with the teacher this semester and help the teacher collect homework every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday." Su Jin handed Xie Li a White Rabbit candy.
Xie Li took the candy back to the classroom, and her classmates talked about Su Jin's behavior.
"I think Teacher Su is better than other teachers. I was always called a bad kid by my teachers before." The eyes of several students with poor grades were a little red. Since their grades dropped in the third grade, the teachers have never given them a good face.
"Now that you know Teacher Su is gentle, you should study hard," Xie Li heard a few boys say, "In the school, you guys always go out to play. It's not too late to learn now."
After Su Jin returned to the office, he met with Gong Li, and the two looked at the roster.
"Teacher Gong, these people should be placed in the front to listen to the class first." Su Jin and Gong Li were discussing the seating issue. Gong Li found that Su Jin had similar ideas to hers, and clasped her hands together.
"I agree. We can work together." Gong Li and Su Jin talked about their previous partner. "Whenever we disagreed, she would complain in advance, which led to some misunderstandings about me."
Gong Li graduated from a normal secondary school and was the most suitable person to be a teacher. However, during her three years here, she could only attend Chinese classes.
"Teacher Gong, is your Chinese test paper ready?" Su Jin looked at the test paper next to Gong Li's desk and asked with a smile.
"Yes, the exams will start in tomorrow's Chinese class. I agree with your idea of changing seats for weekly and monthly exams, just like I did when I took exams at technical secondary school." Gong Li looked at Su Jin, "I'm also a military wife. We don't live in the same family compound, so you haven't seen me."
The two smiled at each other and began to deal with their own affairs.
After get off work at noon, Su Jin rode her bike home with her textbooks. Lu Shiyi came back from the training ground and was making lunch in the kitchen.
"Ayi, what delicious food did you make?" Su Jin parked her bicycle and smelled the fragrance from the kitchen.
"Beef noodles. Didn't we braise beef yesterday?" Lu Shiyi bought a few pounds of beef from a nearby village. "You've always wanted to eat beef noodles. I taught them in the northwest and learned how to make noodles with the people in the kitchen."
"I want the thinner noodles." Su Jin likes beef noodles, but eating has become a problem after coming here, so she keeps the beef noodles in her heart.
Lu Shiyi was cooking noodles and reached out to touch her nose: "Did you have a good class today?"
"It went very smoothly. The children in our school are very serious." Su Jin was talking to Lu Shiyi about the repeaters, and he frowned.
"Those children have bad study habits and are being looked after by their grandmothers in the village." Lu Shiyi reminded Su Jin and the others of their situation. "The old ladies have all been sent back to the village. If the children make any mistakes, you can ask their parents for help."
Lu Shiyi's reminder made Su Jin feel at ease.
"Ayi, what do you want to eat tonight?" Su Jin hugged Lu Shiyi's waist and rubbed her little face against his back. "You don't have to go to work this afternoon. I'll make something delicious at home."
Su Jin was worried that Lu Shiyi's training was too heavy and would cause his body to break down.
"Everything you cook is delicious. Lao Lin said that my sister-in-law has prepared all the kitchen supplies, so she won't come over for dinner today." Lu Shiyi whispered to Su Jin, "We can finally enjoy our own world."
Su Jin chuckled and said, "Sister-in-law is learning very seriously, but my aunt's method is wrong."
"Practice makes perfect!" Lu Shiyi sighed.
"Ayi, your cooking is so delicious. You must have exercised a lot outside, right?" Su Jin looked up at Lu Shiyi's back. It was his training alone in the northwest that enabled him to achieve his current success.
"All the hard work is worth it to have you." Lu Shiyi experienced for the first time how his father felt back then. "Wife, we will get better and better. When we return to the capital, I will take you to play in the capital."
