Xu Qingning made her own cotton pants; they were loose and baggy, made of purple fabric, and she even added two straps, making them look like overalls.
Her cotton-padded jacket was also a loose-fitting purple one, shorter in the front and longer in the back. Even Xu Wei said that her cotton-padded jacket looked pretty good, and that the purple color made her skin look very fair.
Zhao Jingyu helped her tie the ribbon and then combed her hair. Xu Qingning usually tied her hair back, but she was uncomfortable lying down, so she let her hair down.
"No need, this is fine!" Xu Qingning put the rubber band on her wrist. "I'll just wear my hat."
"Let me carry you over!" Zhao Jingyu reached out to carry her, but Liang Yufeng laughed. "The delivery room is right next door, we can just walk over. It'll be good for you to get some exercise."
Yang Yuelan, carrying the small blanket, went out first.
Chen Qiaodi had already reached the door when she saw the two still being all lovey-dovey. She teased them, "It's not like we're going shopping. You don't need to dress up anymore. If you keep dressing up, the baby will be born soon."
It seems the medicine is working.
Otherwise, I would have been in so much pain that I couldn't stand up.
"We're here." Zhao Jingyu took Xu Qingning's hand and led her out, telling her, "Take it easy, no rush."
Xu Wei glanced at the two of them and went into the delivery room first.
These two don't look like a young couple with a child.
They seem more like they're in a relationship.
Once on the delivery bed, Xu Qingning became nervous again. Zhao Jingyu helped her take off her cotton pants and asked her if she was cold, saying he would go and get her a blanket.
"There are blankets here." Xu Qingning didn't want him to bring in the blankets from home. She wasn't cold; she was just nervous.
“I’ll sit here with you!” Zhao Jingyu asked Chen Qiaodi, “Director Chen, may I stay here with you during childbirth?”
"No, you should leave!" Chen Qiaodi kicked Zhao Jingyu out.
He's asking all sorts of questions here.
It's made her forget everything.
Zhao Jingyu walked to the door and said again, "Director Chen, I'll vouch for your father."
Chen Qiaodi didn't even look up and ignored him.
Xu Qingning just smiled.
She wasn't in such dire danger that it required saving both the mother and the baby, yet he was already insisting on saving the mother. He'd been led astray by the man in the next bed.
Xu Wei took a form and walked over to Zhao Jingyu, calling out, "Family member, come and sign this."
Yang Yuelan and Liang Yufeng both followed.
Xu Wei explained to him the potential risks during childbirth, as well as the emergency measures they would take, following the hospital's standard procedures.
Upon hearing this, Zhao Jingyu became even more nervous, and he didn't even want to sign anymore: "With Director Chen here, this kind of thing won't happen."
"Probably not, but nothing is 100% certain. We're just going through the motions with you." Xu Wei pointed to the signature area. "You can sign here."
"It's okay, hurry up and sign!" Liang Yufeng urged him. "It's just a small matter. I've had three children at home, and they're still doing fine."
Yang Yuelan stood to the side, holding the small blanket, without saying a word.
She was actually quite nervous. Although Xu Qingning was her daughter-in-law, they had been together for so long and had never had a serious argument.
Their relationship is at least much closer than that of a typical mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.
She's been through it all, knows what childbirth is like, and feels genuinely sorry for her daughter-in-law.
Zhao Jingyu then signed the document.
Xu Wei picked up the form, put it in the folder, took the small blanket from Yang Yuelan, and went into the delivery room: "Okay, you can wait outside."
Liang Yufeng and Yang Yuelan sat on the bench at the door, tears streaming down their faces. "If my sister were alive, she would be both heartbroken and happy. Heartbroken that her daughter was suffering, but happy to have a grandson."
That bastard Xu Jianguo, he didn't even come to see his daughter when she gave birth.
If he ever says he'll treat everyone equally again, she'll curse him to death!
Yang Yuelan's eyes also reddened.
Seeing that both of them were crying, Zhao Jingyu walked away and paced back and forth at the door.
He was already nervous, and seeing them like this made him even more nervous. Unfortunately, there wasn't even a pane of glass on the door to the delivery room, so he had nowhere to look.
Compared to the tension and anxiety outside the delivery room, the atmosphere inside was much warmer. Chen Qiaodi even joked with Xu Qingning, asking her what her favorite food was.
"I love my mother-in-law's dumplings the most," Xu Qingning replied casually, thinking that you couldn't talk freely in the delivery room.
"Have your mother-in-law make dumplings for you tonight." Chen Qiaodi gently stroked her belly and said, "Don't be nervous. Tell me when you feel pain. We'll push when we need to and rest when we need to. You'll give birth soon."
"Okay, I understand." Xu Qingning replied, instantly feeling less nervous. She looked at the ceiling of the delivery room, took a deep breath, and thought, "It's just a matter of time anyway, the sooner I give birth, the sooner I'll be free."
“You’re young and strong, the baby is in the right position, and the baby isn’t big, only about six pounds, so there won’t be any problems.” Xu Wei stood in front of her, her tone gentle. “You’re even younger than me, and you’re going to be a mother.”
“That’s right, everyone else is a mother now, and you still don’t have a boyfriend.” Chen Qiaodi chatted with Xu Wei about everyday things. “After the New Year, I’ll go to the provincial capital to be with my daughter. Come visit me when you’re free.”
"Don't worry, teacher, I will definitely go." Xu Wei said with a smile, wearing a mask. "My alma mater is in the provincial capital, and I still miss the provincial capital very much."
“Go back when you have time.” Chen Qiaodi smiled, indicating her understanding. “The main reason is that Jiaodong City is close to your home. Otherwise, you could have just stayed in the provincial capital.”
...
Zhao Jingyu stood at the door, vaguely hearing voices inside, but not clearly, and felt restless, as if being scratched by a cat.
Liang Yufeng had calmed down and asked him to sit down, but he refused and continued pacing back and forth at the door. He had never felt time pass so agonizingly.
About an hour later, a baby's loud and clear cry suddenly came from the delivery room.
Zhao Jingyu stopped in his tracks, his heart deeply touched. He stood there, speechless, surrounded by the cries of his child.
He's a father!
"She gave birth so quickly!" Liang Yufeng stood up quickly and said excitedly, "The crying is so loud, it must be a boy."
Yang Yuelan was overjoyed: "Director Chen's delivery service is really different. I thought it would be evening."
After a while, the delivery room door opened, and Chen Qiaodi came out, smiling and saying, "Congratulations, it's a boy, and both mother and child are safe."
"Thank you, Director Chen, you've worked so hard!" Zhao Jingyu finally snapped out of his daze, his voice brimming with undisguised excitement. "How is my wife? Can we go in now?"
“She’s fine. You’ll have to wait a little while. Dr. Xu will come out and talk to you later.” Chen Qiaodi patted Zhao Jingyu’s shoulder. “Your son looks exactly like you. He didn’t cry when he first came out, but he started crying after I flicked his feet.”
"Haha, my sweetie is just as resilient as I am," Zhao Jingyu laughed. "Not only resilient, but also adorable."
Liang Yufeng and Yang Yuelan both breathed a sigh of relief.
She's finally given birth.
