More than half an hour later, Xu Wei walked out of the delivery room with a smile, holding her baby: "Who wants to hold the baby first?"
"I'll hold her." Zhao Jingyu stepped forward first to take the child. His posture was too stiff, and he had to adjust it twice before he could hold the child in his arms. He looked down at his little sweetheart and then asked Xu Wei, "Dr. Xu, when will my wife come out?"
Yang Yuelan and Liang Yufeng gathered around to look.
The baby's face was clean and white, and he was sleeping soundly. His eyebrows and eyes looked very much like Zhao Jingyu.
"You can go in and see her now." Xu Wei laughed when she saw how clumsy he was carrying her. "Grandma should carry her!"
Zhao Jingyu immediately handed the baby to Yang Yuelan, pushed open the door to the delivery room, walked quickly to the bedside, and held Xu Qingning's hand: "Wife, you've worked so hard. Our sweet baby is very beautiful and well-behaved."
Xu Qingning slept for a while, and when she saw Zhao Jingyu come in, she smiled at him and said, "If Tianbao cries, give him some water, but make sure it's lukewarm."
"Okay, I understand." Zhao Jingyu lowered his head and kissed her forehead. "How are you feeling now?"
"I'm quite tired." Xu Qingning took a few deep breaths. "My body feels relaxed, but I feel a bit weak. I want to sleep but can't."
"You should rest well." Zhao Jingyu knelt down beside the bed, stroking her hair gently. "I'll carry you back later. You just need to sleep. I'll take care of the baby."
Xu Wei followed Yang Yuelan and the others back to the delivery room, gave some instructions on feeding the baby, and then returned to the delivery room.
Seeing the two of them whispering sweet nothings to each other again, she smiled, stepped forward, lifted the blanket to take a look, and said to Xu Qingning, "It seems there's nothing wrong now. You can go back to your ward. After one night of observation, you can go home tomorrow."
"Thank you, Dr. Xu." Zhao Jingyu took Xu Qingning's cotton-padded coat and helped her put it on. He then tried to help her put on her pants, but Xu Qingning sat up reflexively. "I can do it myself."
Xu Wei glanced at the two of them, then took the plates to the next room to clean up.
"I really can't do anything with you." Zhao Jingyu touched her face, his eyes full of doting. "You dress yourself, I won't touch you."
Xu Qingning slowly dressed and put on her hat in bed before Zhao Jingyu carried her back to the next ward.
The woman in the next bed hasn't returned yet.
Yang Yuelan and Liang Yufeng stood around the bed looking at the child. They both said that the child looked like his father, especially his eyes and nose, which were exactly the same.
“You have two grandsons now, are you looking forward to a granddaughter?” Liang Yufeng stood up and leaned against the bedside, saying, “Your family certainly doesn’t lack grandsons.”
“Grandchildren are all the same to us, we love them all.” Yang Yuelan gently patted her baby grandson in his swaddling clothes, her eyes full of affection. “The children in our family are all the apple of our eye.”
As the two were chatting, Zhao Jingyu walked in carrying Xu Qingning. Liang Yufeng couldn't help but laugh. She'd already given birth; she could have just walked back herself, why was she carrying her...?
Seeing that Xu Qingning was in good spirits and had nothing wrong, Liang Yufeng sat for a while and then went home, saying that she would visit her at home in a couple of days.
Yang Yuelan asked her to send a message to Zhao Futang, asking him to stew a chicken and send it over.
Actually, they could have gone back today. Xu Wei just said that the child needs to get vaccinated tomorrow, so it would be best to go back tomorrow to avoid the hassle of traveling back and forth.
Liang Yufeng agreed and happily went to the tenement to tell Zhao Futang the good news.
Zhao Futang was overjoyed and said he would go that night. His youngest son already had a child, so he had nothing to worry about.
Liang Yufeng ran into Xiao Tingshen as soon as she reached the alley entrance. Upon seeing Liang Yufeng, Xiao Tingshen greeted her politely as always: "Hello, Auntie."
"Xiao Tingshen, has your Wenya given birth yet?" Liang Yufeng asked him, stopping in her tracks, in a good mood.
"Not yet. It's cold at night, I'll come back to get a blanket." Xiao Tingshen then asked Liang Yufeng, "How is Xu Qingning?"
"Qingning gave birth to a big, healthy baby boy, and both mother and child are safe and sound." Liang Yufeng looked at him with a smile. "My Qingning is so lucky. Experts from the provincial capital came to deliver her baby, and it only took a little over an hour. She can go home tomorrow."
"That's good." Xiao Tingshen pushed his bicycle into the yard, found a quilt, tied it to the back of the bicycle, and hurriedly went to the hospital.
Xiao Yaodong and Liu Yuzhen had arrived long ago and were sitting on a bench outside the delivery room. They had been waiting for two hours, but the baby hadn't given birth yet.
"Give me the blanket first." Liu Yuzhen took the blanket and covered her legs with it. "It's too cold."
"You can just go back to your ward and wait." Xiao Yaodong glanced at Liu Yuzhen. "Your mother-in-law is sewing a quilt. Go and help her."
"I'm not going!" Liu Yuzhen snorted. "It's not appropriate for her to sew such a big quilt herself, so why is she criticizing me? If she's not satisfied, she can sew it herself."
She said the quilts they sewed were all unsuitable, and no one should criticize anyone else. They should just buy one from the hospital; although it would be a bit expensive, it would at least be a lifesaver in an emergency.
Jiang Yumei disagreed, saying that the small quilts from the hospital had been sitting around for who knows how long, and were definitely not as comfortable as the ones she sewed herself.
Since Jiang Yumei said so, she would sew it herself.
Xu Jianguo sat expressionlessly on another bench. He knew that Xu Qingning had also gone to the hospital and planned to visit Xu Qingning at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital after Tang Wenya gave birth.
Who knew that Tang Wenya would not give birth for a long time, so he couldn't leave.
Jiang Yumei was busy sewing a quilt in the ward. Time was tight, and there was no time to take it apart and start over. She could only cut the quilt in half to make two small quilts and then wrap the edges of the quilt.
The delivery room was quite crowded.
Everyone was quite surprised to see Jiang Yumei sewing a quilt in her hospital bed. After ten months of pregnancy, how could she not even sew a quilt properly?
This is simply unheard of.
Ignoring everyone's gaze, Jiang Yumei quickly threaded the needle, working up a sweat. After she finished sewing the small quilt, she would then argue with Liu Yuzhen.
What kind of grandmother sews such a tiny quilt for her grandson?
She suspected that Liu Yuzhen did it on purpose.
Xiao Tingshen was also restless. Seeing Xu Jianguo constantly checking his watch, he went over and sat down next to him: "Dad, I ran into Aunt Qingning when I came here. She said that Qingning has already given birth to a boy, and both mother and child are safe."
"She gave birth so quickly?" Xu Jianguo's eyes lit up. "Really?"
“Really,” Xiao Tingshen said firmly. “Aunt Qingning has no reason to lie about something like this.”
“They’re so quick at giving birth,” Liu Yuzhen said to Xu Jianguo with a smile. “Congratulations, in-law, on becoming a grandfather!”
"Congratulations, this is a joyous occasion." Xiao Yaodong also congratulated Xu Jianguo, "Your family has gained two grandsons at once, truly a double blessing."
"Congratulations to you too!" Xu Jianguo was in high spirits.
If Xu Qingning gives birth, then he won't be in a hurry to go to the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital to see her.
It's not too late for him to go after they get home.
