The teacher was happy to perform this type of dialogue with this outstanding student.
The classroom setting opened the curtain on a drama. The atmosphere, the emotional tone, the expressions—sometimes it really makes it hard to distinguish between reality and fiction.
Rather than calling it a play, or even reality, it's more accurate to describe it as an ambiguous relationship between the two, yet distinct from both.
"So you came all this way to English class today just to reenact this romantic dialogue with Rose?"
After school, on the downhill path at dusk, Lin Yue said he was going out to buy some things, and he and Lan Xi walked together.
"Huh?" Lin Yue was lost in thought from the moment he stepped out of the classroom.
He didn't come to his senses until his companion spoke, but he still couldn't hear what the other person was saying.
"Alright! I've been telling you lately, why are you always so absent-minded? And you've become quieter too?"
"You've become more talkative..." Lin Yue's casual reply was not without reason.
She is no longer as introverted as she was three months ago; instead, she has become much more lively and cheerful, and has made some friends among her classmates.
Although they had never offered any help before, a few days ago she went back to the school's counseling center and, after taking a test, happily discovered this fact. She then told her best friend, who was in another class, and Lin Yue about the results.
Lan Xi suddenly strode forward, blocking her companion's path. As if she had suddenly realized the answer to her earlier question, she asked in a surprised tone, "Could it be that you..."
"What about me?"
"You..." Lan Xi was still a little incredulous at her own speculation, and her words were somewhat vague. She looked at Lin Yue with a questioning gaze, and finally asked, "You have a crush on Rose?"
The other person almost slipped. "What are you talking about? I'm over a hundred years old, I really don't have the mood for this." He denied it very simply.
"Really?" Lan Xi asked, half believing and half doubting. "I can tell. You had an unusual relationship with Shan Shan from the poetry club before."
"Ha..." Lin Yue laughed to calm himself down, but his heart was still hit where it hurt, so cold sweat broke out on his forehead: "This is really a bit complicated, it's hard to say."
"It's not too complicated..." Lan Xi crossed her arms, looked up and walked forward. "It's just a secret relationship, don't worry, I understand. I've read a lot of romance novels."
"What kind of romance novel are you reading? It even talks about lovers... Do high school students these days like to read novels with love triangles?"
"I've been watching it since elementary school."
"Hmm..." After his initial shock, Lin Yue was surprisingly calm. "Did you understand it? Was it enjoyable?"
"It's quite exhilarating. Should you choose your original spouse? Or your lover? Or the girl you slept with last night? Your original spouse can provide peace, warmth, and security; she's like a safe haven, like home."
A lover can give you a thrill, excitement, and a renewed feeling, while a one-night stand is a fleeting moment of ultimate passion.
Which one should he choose? Choosing one means abandoning the other two. The protagonist's conflicted state of mind is so intense, you just want to punch him a few times to bring him to his senses.
"I can say that I have truly gotten to know you today. Please allow me to look at you with a completely new perspective, Lan Xi."
As he spoke, Lin Yue really began to look Lan Xi up and down again.
She's wearing a trendy pure white tweed coat today;
Her long hair was draped down, with two sections in front and the rest in the back.
After they laughed, they fell into a quiet, yet comfortable, silence.
Today is exceptionally peaceful—not the kind of superficial tranquility where there is no sound, but a peaceful tranquility where no danger occurs and no storms rage.
"Are you leaving before the end of the semester?" Lanxi suddenly asked.
"Yes, and recently there seem to be more incidents involving demons. The organization has started to get busy, and we weren't supposed to have such a long vacation."
But I always felt that Holy Cross College wasn't entirely safe, and Uncle Bin trusted my judgment, so we stayed.
"Okay. Let's keep in touch and don't forget your friend." Lan Xi continued walking ahead at her usual pace without looking back.
"So decisive, so decisive it makes me a little sad. Aren't you going to keep me here for a moment?"
"It's not good to force someone to do something they can't."
"Actually, it's not far..." Lin Yue stretched. "I probably won't leave this city for the first half of next year. When we have time, let's hang out together."
"well."
Lin Yue felt a little saddened by the coldness.
They were, after all, companions who risked their lives together to cross the River Styx in hell, traverse explosions and flames, and navigate treacherous street corners!
He touched his head in annoyance. "Oh dear, I forgot my hat in the drawer! Wait for me!" Lin Yue said, then entered the school gate and ran back to the teaching building.
He hurried back to the classroom and retrieved his hat.
That was the only gift that person ever gave me.
He put on the hat as if he had lost it and found it again.
He then looked around the C-class classroom he was about to leave, and there he felt as if he had returned to his student days.
He happened to glance at a seat that had been empty for a month.
Huang Yi hasn't been to class for over a month.
Although Lin Yue thought it would be better for this kind of person to stay away, something seemed very wrong. This feeling of unease seemed to be connected to the cases that had already been solved.
Hasn't it already been determined that Huang Yi has absolutely no connection to this case?
Why do I feel this way?
Something still felt off about the incident, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. Although the organization had declared the case closed, Lin Yue felt it couldn't end so simply. Lin Yue sat quietly in his seat, trying to forget everything. No, he hadn't forgotten Lan Xi.
