Chapter 579

The Demon Lord replied, "Let us reflect on the choices that fate has made for us."

Philsa remained silent, unaware of what was going on.

"First of all—Lord Elfons' true memories chose me, but his emblem chose you. Here you should know that Lord Elfons is also a member of the demon race."

Philsa guessed that these words seemed to imply that being of the demon race was the key to obtaining the power of the emblem.

However, he had doubts about this: "Impossible—you also obtained Alphonse's memories? Also, wasn't he a human raised by the Holy Dragon Desfield?"

"You'll know about me later..." Fred skipped over the first question from the other person. "Regarding Desfield, she is actually a Light-attribute Mystic Beast, but she doesn't belong to the Holy Dragon species. There's also something you might not know: the characteristics of the Extreme Ice Holy Sword 'Danritel'."

That was the "Holy Sword," which required demonic blood to fully manifest its true form. Now you understand why Lord Elfons chose the two of us as his successors.

"Because we are both demons, and so is Elfons. So he chose the two of us as his successors—I know that's what you want to say."

"But unfortunately, even so, it cannot prove that the path I'm on must be the same as yours. If we must take the same path, then the one I'm on now is absolutely correct," Felsa retorted.

Fred shook his head. "You've misunderstood me. I ask you—" He emphasized his words, his tone unchanged but now carrying a hint of authority, as if questioning, "You inherited the emblem of Elfons, making you a true member of the demon race. But if the path you chose was right, why have you stooped to fighting alongside humans? And why have you been so cruel as to kill your own demon brethren?"

Fred had expected Philsa to answer his questions in his usual calm tone—but the result was unexpected.

He stood up, his azure eyes instantly filled with rage, and stared intently at Fred, saying excitedly, "You demons—attacked my village—and killed my mother!"

This time, the Demon Lord was speechless.

After a few seconds of silence, he said, "Your mother, Lovena, was not killed by the demons! Why are you so stubbornly clinging to this belief!"

Fred suppressed his anger and calmly retorted, "Tell me the truth, whose victim was your mother? Was she a demon or a god?"

This sentence contained so much meaning that it touched a chord with Firsa. "How...how do you know so much?"

“Answer me!” Fred shouted.

"My mother... to protect the village... to protect me and... my sister, used forbidden magic that only demigods possess to destroy the demon. But... she herself suffered divine punishment and died in agony." This was the memory he least wanted to recall, and he spoke it haltingly through his pain.

"Then, who was it that sent your mother to hell with their own hands? Was it a demon or a god?"

"Stop making excuses! If it weren't for your demonic invasion, Mother wouldn't have used divine power, and none of this tragedy would have happened! You are the culprits! Demons!"

Fred was silent for a few seconds. "I really didn't expect that your mother would sacrifice herself to use forbidden magic to protect the villagers who had betrayed her."

The only certainty is that the god you worship sent your mother to hell! Hmph, is it because you fear a powerful deity that you transfer all your hatred onto your own kind?

You're wrong.

"What?"

Philsa, who had been agitated moments before, suddenly became unusually calm. His dramatic change left everyone present holding their breath.

“I am a believer. I have severed ties with so-called gods. In this life, I will no longer accept God's grace, God's healing, or God's salvation. Even if one day I am seriously injured, in dire straits, and almost die in front of God, I will never ask the filthy gods for help. But I hate you more than God. All the tragedies are caused by you demons.”

His face was contorted, and an incredibly powerful demonic aura permeated the entire hall.

Fred was surprised and remained silent again. He actually hated both gods and demons in two different ways because of the hatred for his family.

This intense emotion was so extreme that it defied common sense, yet it seemed to be in line with his personality.

"Poor thing."

His hatred was extremely intense, even more so than that of any demon, and even twisted.

Fred had a premonition that if Philsa wiped out all the demons, his next step might be to "kill a god".

Shirley finally understood why her companions hated demons so much and why they had become non-believers.

Recalling a month ago, Philsa was injured and received treatment from the Alchemist Guild's healers.

Strangely, his body resisted and rejected the divine healing magic, which gave the healer and Sherry a lot of headaches.

From this, Sherry recalled an earlier scene, in the Cathedral of Saint Chris, before she encountered the monster.

At that time, Shirley was imitating the posture of praying to God when Philsa saw her and said inexplicably, "Hey, why are you kneeling down to the Virgin Mary?"

Shirley sensed a barb in the words, though they weren't directed at her personally, she still felt somewhat displeased and impatient: "It's a tradition. To receive a blessing, one must kneel down and pray fervently to the gods."
