Chapter 609

"Hehe..." A sinister laugh suddenly echoed in the darkness.

The Monkey King's scalp tingled with anxiety. He quickly used his headlamp to search around, "Who is it?"

"Who is it? Pretending to be something you're not, come out if you dare!" the Monkey King roared.

There was no answer in the darkness. Then, the light swept across the stone wall behind him, and the Monkey King discovered that it was covered with patterns.

There were two pictures. One was the one he had seen before, but the other one, after he saw it, made him shudder. The picture depicted the ancient Shu people disemboweling prisoners or criminals alive, turning them into mummies, and then wrapping them in plaster or similar materials to make human-shaped statues similar to the Terracotta Army. Because these people were still struggling before they died, the human-shaped statues were all in different poses, and their noses or eyes had been deliberately cut off... He shuddered. Wasn't this the statues that were kept next to him?

"Hey, where did one of them go?" The Monkey King shone his lamp and discovered that one of the bodies was missing, and there was a pair of footprints covered in white powder on the ground.

Swallowing hard, he had only one thought in his mind: to get out of here as soon as possible. But to his horror, he saw a pale face appear at the bottom of the stairs.

In an instant, he remembered the tomb chamber, so he immediately ran over, pried open the stone slab, jumped in, and quickly closed the slab. He collapsed into the tomb chamber, feeling as if his heart was about to jump out of his chest.

After a while, there was no movement outside. Once his mind calmed down a bit, the Great Sage Equaling Heaven noticed that the stone coffin in the center, which had been open, had been closed again, and the two skeletons were gone.

"What's going on?" The Monkey King rubbed his eyes, making sure he wasn't seeing things, and his heart skipped a beat. "Could it be that a ghost put it back together? But what about those two skeletons? They're right here. Even if there were a ghost, it wouldn't want those two skeletons, would it?"

As I was pondering this, footsteps sounded from the main hall above, gradually approaching...

He quickly turned off the lights. The Monkey King's heart was in his throat, and he felt like it was about to jump out of his chest.

With a 'snap,' the stone slab moved and was slowly moved aside. In the darkness, it seemed as if a human face was looking down, but it didn't come down in the end. After looking around for a moment, it shrank back. As the footsteps faded away, the Monkey King breathed a slight sigh of relief.

However, the current situation is still not optimistic. He can't stay in this tomb forever, especially such a strange one.

'Thump thump' In the darkness, a series of footsteps came from the stairs in the main hall, as if someone was coming up. 'Who could it be? It shouldn't be Master Hei.'

The Monkey King's slightly relaxed mood tensed up again. By now, he no longer trusted anyone, or rather, was there anyone else here besides himself?

Fortunately, the other party did not check on the second floor, but went directly to the third floor, where faint light shone through the gaps in the stone slabs.

"There are lights," the Monkey King thought hesitantly, but he was certain that the person who had just gone up was either Blackie or the helper he had invited.

After thinking for a while, he finally made a decision: even if there were ghosts outside, he had to go out; he couldn't stay in this tomb and wait to die.

Moving aside the stone slab, the Monkey King groped his way out. Instead of going back, he followed him up to the third floor. He had a vague idea that Blackie might have gone up as well, as he had heard Blackie mention before that the real tomb owner should be up there.

The third-floor hall was far more magnificent than the lower two floors. The Monkey King illuminated it with a miner's lamp. The entire hall was built in the mountains, and the surrounding stone tablets were covered with murals depicting scenes of life and sacrifices of the ancient Shu people. It can be confirmed that a highly civilized tribe did exist in Bashu five thousand years ago, but it disappeared into the annals of history for unknown reasons. Records of this tribe only exist in unofficial histories.

In the center of the main hall, there is a stone gate about five meters high. On either side of the bluestone steps stand two bronze human-faced statues, but they are not the bronze statues worshipped by the ancient Shu people.

The stone door had been opened, and it was pitch black inside. The Great Sage Equaling Heaven hesitated, wondering whether he should go in or not.

Finally, I made a tough decision. Since I had already come this far, there was no turning back. I had no choice but to bite the bullet and go in.

Upon entering the stone gate, a huge cave appeared before him, estimated to be large enough to hold a football field. It seemed to have been naturally formed, hollowing out the entire mountain. Below, it was pitch black and bottomless. A stone path had been carved out of the side of the cave, winding and extending downwards, with iron chain railings along the sides.

When the miner's lamp shone on him, the Monkey King saw bloodstains on the ground in front of him, running down the stone path. He knew without a doubt who had left them.

"Looks like Blackie went down too. Oh well, I'll go down too. Whether I live or die is up to fate," the Great Sage Equaling Heaven thought to himself, and then he went down as well.

The cave was of unknown depth, seemingly bottomless. As the Monkey King continued to descend, gusts of cold air rushed up, as if the cave led to the earth's depths.

After descending about a hundred meters, the previously pitch-black space suddenly lit up with specks of light, like the faint glow of fireflies in the night, creating an eerie atmosphere.

The Monkey King steadied himself and slowly walked down. Gradually, the light grew brighter and brighter, so he quickly turned off his headlamp. By this time, he could see that the cave had been artificially excavated, and there were iron chains connecting the cliffs.

The squeaking bats, each the size of a cloak, darted up and down, the light growing brighter and brighter, making the Monkey King's heart clench.
