The atmosphere quieted down, and we could hear each other breathing. "Open it," Uncle Liu from Hunan led the way, and together we pushed the coffin lid open to one side.
But when the coffin lid was opened and we looked inside, we were stunned to find that there was nothing inside—just an empty coffin.
"So, all this talk about forgiveness was just a ploy to fool us?"
For a moment we didn't know what to say. The coffin was empty; we got nothing.
"Hey, wait a minute, look, there's a human-shaped mark at the bottom," Xiang Fei's voice rang out.
Upon closer inspection, we found a black, human-shaped mark at the bottom of the coffin.
"This...this can't be! Could this be the Dao Transformation?"
"Transformation into the Dao?" Uncle Liu from Hunan was also shocked. "This is something that only exists in ancient legends. It is said that some cultivators who reach the peak of the Dao will eventually transform into the Dao and depart, just like the Buddhist concept of Nirvana."
"Could it be that this patriarch has already ascended to immortality?" I asked.
Xiang Fei shook his head, "I don't know, it's too mysterious, we can't even get into this field yet."
The old blind man shook his head and sighed, "I originally thought I would meet a cultivator from the mythical era, or at least obtain something useful. Now I have returned empty-handed."
We put the coffin lid back, and suddenly there was a loud bang in the sky, shaking the very air, as if something had crashed down.
Before we could react, we saw a huge hole in the mountain above us, and then the bronze coffin and several of us were thrown up into it. We were all trembling with fear as we flew out of the stone chamber.
It flew straight into the sky, as if it were about to break through the void and disappear. The blood corpse below was also startled and, upon seeing this scene, was filled with rage and roared. Instantly, the ancient corpses around the Immortal Palace began to crawl, the Yin energy surged, and the vengeful spirits and ghosts chased after us, demanding our lives.
With so many of us now, and the ancient corpse and its threat gone, dealing with vengeful spirits and ghosts is naturally very easy. But the real danger is falling down suddenly. Even if we don't die from the fall, we'll be eaten by the ancient corpse.
We silently prayed to the ancestral master, and we were all sweating profusely. The bronze coffin took us into the 'sky', where the mist was hazy and dreamlike.
After passing through the 'sky', we were surprised to find that we had arrived at that ancient battlefield, the land where immortals were buried.
The bronze coffin fell directly into the immortal's tomb. We saw that the mound above our heads had broken open, and after the bronze coffin fell in, it automatically piled up back up.
We looked at each other in disbelief; what we were seeing seemed too surreal.
When Uncle Liu from Hunan learned that this was the 'Burial Site of Immortals', he was so excited that he almost jumped up. "That's right, the bronze coffin returned here because it was originally buried here. It was only later dug up by the ancient Shu people. This place was originally a burial place for cultivators, but someone used heaven-reaching methods to set up a magic array, hoping to ascend to immortality."
Hearing them say that, we all nodded in agreement. Only the Li brothers, Tianlong and Tianlong, stared wide-eyed. "We've been robbing tombs for most of our lives, but this is the first time we've ever been this excited. The ancient Shu tombs are so amazing. They're just like the ones in mythology. If we can rob a Shu tomb, we'll have no regrets in this life."
This is the 'burial ground of immortals', but we did not act rashly. Instead, we planned to go out first, prepare properly, and then come back in. The patriarchs of Taoism are buried here, and we cannot just dig them out.
We've agreed to leave through the ancient tomb at the sacrificial site. Although it's full of dangers, we've already been in twice, so even if we encounter the Corpse King, we're confident we can handle it.
I'm still a little scared. The scene that happened earlier is still vivid in my mind. I wonder what happened to Shu Yuan's body? And what about the Corpse King?
However, when we climbed out of the bronze human-faced statue, we found it quiet inside. Shu Yuan's corpse, the Corpse King, and Professor Huang were all gone. At this point, we didn't care about anything else and just wanted to get out first.
We walked cautiously toward the exit, and thankfully nothing happened along the way. When we saw the light at the exit, we not only breathed a sigh of relief, but also made up our minds that we would never enter the Shu Tomb again.
Meanwhile, Uncle Liu and his group from Hunan had already made plans to come back to the Shu Tomb in a few days to dig up the immortal coffin.
I initially wanted to try and persuade them, but then I thought, "Those who walk different paths cannot make plans together." Everyone has their own ambitions, so let them be. Right now, all I want to do is go home, have a good meal, and then get a good night's sleep.
When I got home, of course I got another good scolding from my mom, and she told me to go on a blind date tomorrow, that she couldn't let me continue like this.
Eighty-three has messed up.
“We don’t have that ability; it’s Uncle Liu and his group from Hunan,” I replied, panting.
When we got to the square, we saw the group of ghostly soldiers carrying a coffin out. At that point, we didn't care about anything else and ran straight over and climbed up the city wall.
Looking back, an unbelievable scene unfolded: the ancient corpses and evil spirits that had been chasing us had stopped. Even the blood corpses had ceased their roars, seemingly terrified of these ghostly soldiers, or perhaps of the black coffin. To our astonishment, they simply retreated.
Uncle Liu from Hunan and the others also climbed up. I saw that their faces were all ashen, and another apprentice had already wet his pants. They had to carry him up. Judging from his confused eyes and foaming at the mouth, he was probably terrified.
The group collapsed to the ground. One of the two strangers, speaking with a trembling northern accent, said, "It was fucking terrifying. This is the first time we've ever seen anything like it. It was like hell. If we had known, we definitely wouldn't have come."
