should

Suddenly, as soon as I entered the tree hole, the entrance closed shut, plunging the entire cave into complete darkness, as if I had suddenly become blind.

I turned around and touched the wall behind me, only to find that it was completely sealed off, and I couldn't get out at all. My heart jumped into my throat.

A soft "bang" came from the front, and a spark of fire flashed in Grandpa's hand like a dancing sprite.

With this light, I could finally see the inside of the cave more clearly. I saw that Grandpa had taken out another talisman from somewhere and lit it.

Then Grandpa threw the talisman into the depths of the cave, and it suddenly disappeared. Then we saw a faint light slowly spreading from the depths of the cave toward us.

It quickly spread to my side, and then I realized that the glowing things were actually crystal-like objects.

The crystal stones were embedded around the perimeter of the cave, emitting faint red, green, and blue halos. Although the light was not very strong, it was enough for us to see the situation inside the cave.

This is a tree hollow that faces straight ahead. Even the surrounding walls seem to be made of wood, inlaid with these crystal stones, making it look exceptionally unique. It doesn't have the dark and damp feeling I imagined at all. On the contrary, it feels exceptionally comfortable under this soft light.

Grandpa and Yanling were a little ahead of me. After Grandpa lit the crystal, he only said "follow me" and then walked into the cave.

Shui Yanling, like me, looked around at everything in the cave. When she saw the crystal stones, she lay down on them, her eyes sparkling with starlight.

I just shook my head. Sure enough, girls have zero resistance to pretty things.

This crystal is really beautiful, and I don't know why it emits such light. But I think it might be worth a lot of money if I took it out with me.

If my grandfather knew what I was thinking, he would probably roll his eyes again, because although this thing looks very pretty, it is just a lighting device made of quartz and is not actually worth much money.

There's nothing I can do, I'm poor. I don't even have a salary right now, I'm a real pauper. And I've already made up my mind that I must take a few of these crystals with me when I go out.

Although he was thinking this, he didn't stop walking. He grabbed Yanling, who was looking at the crystal, and quickly followed behind his grandfather.

Shui Yanling was initially reluctant to leave, wanting to look around a bit more. I whispered a few words in her ear, and then the two of us gave each other the same lewd smile, as if we had made some kind of agreement.

Chapter Sixty-Six: Numbness

Of course, Grandpa didn't know about this, and he didn't know how long the cave was. After walking for a long time, it was the same scene all the time, as if he hadn't moved at all. This made me wonder if it was another case of "being trapped in a maze".

However, as soon as I had this thought, the scenery in front of me changed. It was no longer the straight cave entrance, but rather it seemed to have turned a corner, and then a winding staircase of unknown length appeared before us.

I looked at the stairs and felt a little helpless. What kind of design was this? But there was nothing I could do but follow Grandpa up the stairs. The stairs didn't go up; instead, they spiraled down.

I couldn't help but glance down from the stairs, and I couldn't see the bottom at all. Waves of hot air were coming from underground, as if they were going straight to the Earth's core.

And for some reason, I kept feeling like something was roaring, but when I listened carefully, I couldn't hear anything. Grandpa and Shui Yanling were walking quietly, as if they hadn't heard anything. I shook my head, thinking I must have misheard. The spiral staircase seemed to have no end. I was getting numb from walking and quite tired, but suddenly another roar came from below, this time even louder.

My body, which was already feeling a bit tired, suddenly felt goosebumps all over, but Grandpa and Shui Yanling still seemed not to hear me.

"Did you hear anything?" After I asked, Grandpa stopped, and Yanling also pricked up her ears to listen carefully. After a while, both Grandpa and Yanling shook their heads at me.

"There's nothing there? You must be hallucinating!" Grandpa said to me.

But I clearly heard a sound coming from below, and it was getting clearer and clearer.

Grandpa estimated the distance in his mind, then said to Yanling and me, "It's not far. Let's hurry up and talk about it when we get down."

Since Grandpa had said so, I naturally had no objections and could only hurry up and follow along, but I still couldn't help feeling apprehensive.

Shui Yanling became secretly on guard. Although she didn't hear any roars, the indescribable aura rushing towards her from below made her a little nervous.

As I continued walking, the sounds I could hear became clearer and clearer, as if they were ringing right next to my ears. However, the sounds were intermittent and probably sounded like the sounds of ancient chariots and battles.

But I shook my head. How could that be? Could there be someone alive down there training soldiers? But the sound was getting more and more real. It sounded like horses neighing, and it was getting clearer and clearer. It felt like an ancient army was marching towards me.
