Upon hearing this, Pingxin said, "They can go wherever they want, what does it have to do with me?" But as soon as she said it, she regretted it.
Ran Deng nodded and smiled, "Your Majesty's words are somewhat contradictory. It seems that Your Majesty cannot control these witch tribes. If Your Majesty cannot guarantee anything, why not entrust this matter to our Buddhist sect?"
Pingxin glared at Randeng and said, "I'm afraid you can't control the affairs of the Witch Clan."
Buddha smiled and said, “Your Majesty is right. Although our Buddhist sect cannot interfere in the affairs of the witch clan, we can still supervise them. It would be better if our Buddhist sect sent some disciples into the underworld to take care of them, so as to avoid any more unpleasant incidents.”
Pingxin angrily said, "The Heavenly Court, acting on behalf of Heaven, has long acknowledged the management of the gods of the Underworld. Now that the Underworld is full, it is not suitable for Buddhist disciples to intervene. This would be a relief for you, Master, to give up your good intentions."
The Buddha smiled and said, “Your Majesty’s words are reasonable. The Heavenly Court performs its duties on behalf of Heaven, and the Underworld is also under the jurisdiction of the Heavenly Court. The other day, the Jade Emperor summoned this humble monk and said that the management of the Underworld is still lacking. The Emperor intends to send my Buddhist disciples to help. This humble monk could not refuse. However, the Six Paths are ultimately transformed from the Ancestral Witch Houtu. This matter still needs to be asked of Your Majesty. Today, Your Majesty is here, so let us discuss how to arrange the Buddhist disciples in the Underworld.”
Pingxin sneered, "Since Buddha said that the Six Paths are transformed from Houtu, he should know that I still have the right to arrange the affairs of the Underworld. I will say it again: I appreciate Buddha's kindness, but the Underworld is not short of people and does not need Buddha to send his disciples again."
Before the Buddha could speak, Mahakasyapa jumped out and pointed at Pingxin, saying, "You shrew! Since the Buddha is going to help you manage the underworld, you are ignorant of the affairs and have repeatedly obstructed the Buddha. This is outrageous!" Without waiting for the Buddhist monks to stop him, he took out his weapon and attacked Pingxin.
Meanwhile, Dipankara and the others simply watched the spectacle. Mahakasyapa, being from the West and unfamiliar with the events of the prehistoric era, was unaware of Pingxin Niangniang's origins and dared to call her a "shrew," truly courting death. However, Dipankara and the others didn't want to intervene. Firstly, Mahakasyapa was highly regarded by the Buddha, being the head of his ten disciples, and was usually arrogant and unpopular. Furthermore, the situation in the Underworld was currently in an awkward state, and Mahakasyapa's intervention was something many Buddhists hoped for.
Although Lady Pingxin is the transformed spirit of Houtu, she also possesses the cultivation of severing two corpses. Few in Buddhism are her match. When Mahakasyapa makes a move, it will inevitably provoke Lady Pingxin's retaliation. Only then will the Buddhists have something to say and a reason to take action.
The Buddha was also annoyed. This Mahakasyapa was someone he had taken in after his reincarnation, and he valued him highly. Although there were many Buddhas on Mount Ling, they were divided into even more factions. Although they nominally obeyed his orders, they were actually divided into several factions. The Buddha found it somewhat inconvenient to use them. Therefore, the Buddha wanted to cultivate his ten disciples into his own core group. He brought them out today only to let them see the world, and he did not intend for them to fight.
Mahakasyapa was used to being arrogant. After Duobao reincarnated as Shakyamuni, he was accepted as a disciple by the Buddha. Although he was only a nominal disciple, the Buddha took good care of these ten disciples. Therefore, Mahakasyapa was a popular figure on Mount Ling. Although arrogant, he respected the Buddha very much. He understood that his status was given by the Buddha, so he naturally had to protect the Buddha's face. He never expected that this woman would repeatedly obstruct the Buddha's wishes. Mahakasyapa naturally couldn't stand it. Although the Buddha gave him special instruction, he hadn't cultivated for long, and unlike Cangjie, he didn't have such great opportunities. He couldn't see through Pingxin's cultivation level with his limited abilities. People on Mount Ling usually gave in to him, which made him feel like he was one of the two Buddhas in the world. He actually jumped out to challenge Pingxin. Well, he really didn't know what was going on.
Seeing that Mahakasyapa was coming, Pingxin didn't even bother to fight back; he just smiled coldly.
Mahakasyapa also thought that this woman was just an ordinary woman who was so frightened that she forgot to dodge. He was secretly pleased, but he did not hold back. He thought that he should make a contribution so that Tathagata would value him more.
Uh... He said a lot of nonsense, but in reality it only took a moment. Before Tathagata could stop Mahakasyapa's attack, a sword flew from the sky and instantly cut Mahakasyapa in two. Not even his true spirit was left behind; it was also scattered. Even Tathagata couldn't save him in time.
After the sword slashed Mahakasyapa, it flew back and landed in someone's hand. The Buddhist monks looked on and saw that the person holding the sword expressionlessly put it behind his back.
The Buddha intended to stop Mahakasyapa, but the sword flying from the sky was too fast. Even the Buddha had no time to react, and Mahakasyapa was annihilated, his very spirit scattered. The Buddha was startled and looked up to see the four disciples of Penglai Island. The one who had just slain Mahakasyapa was none other than Liaozhen.
The Buddhist monks were also somewhat surprised. The sword strike just now was truly a stroke of genius. They hadn't even seen what the sword looked like. They only felt a flash of light, and after it stopped, it flew back. Only then did they realize that Mahakasyapa was dead. The Buddhist monks were all quite astonished.
When the four people approached, they first bowed to Pingxin and said, "Disciples of Penglai Island pay respects to Your Majesty."
Pingxin smiled and nodded, saying, "No need for formalities."
The four of them then rose and faced the Buddhist monks.
The Buddha's disciple was killed right before his eyes, and he couldn't even come to his aid. This was like a slap in the face to him, and how could the Buddha swallow such anger? Immediately, the Buddha stepped forward and asked, "May I ask if you four are disciples of the Sage Xuantian of Penglai Island?"
Upon hearing this, the four realized that Buddha's words were rather blunt, but they still replied, "That's right."
The Buddha calmly said, "I have long heard that the four of you are also virtuous immortals. Why then do you resort to such an act of bullying the weak?"
