The Six Great Saints Form Alliance, Buddhism Sets Off Eastward

Twenty-four True VS Tathagata

Twenty-four? Liaozhen VS Tathagata

The Buddha calmly said, "I have long heard that the four of you are also virtuous immortals. Why then do you resort to such an act of bullying the weak?"

The four knew that Buddha was about to lose his temper, but who were they? Although Buddha was powerful, they were not afraid. Liao Zhen stepped forward and asked, "May I ask, Buddha, was that person your disciple?"

The Buddha said, "Indeed."

Liaozhen then asked, "Does Buddha know who Lady Pingxin is?"

This time, Buddha did not answer, but simply nodded.

Liaozhen then asked, "Does the Buddha know of the merits performed by Consort Pingxin?"

The Buddha remained expressionless and simply nodded.

Liao Zhen then smiled, but his laughter was somewhat cold. He said, "Since the Buddha knows, why don't your disciples know? May I ask the Buddha, those in Buddhism claim to do good, so why do they behave so disrespectfully towards the most virtuous person in the world?"

The Buddha said expressionlessly, "This matter is due to my poor teaching."

“However, if my disciple makes a mistake, I will punish him. But haven’t you gone too far, fellow Daoist?” Buddha said again.

Liao Zhen sneered, "Such arrogant behavior is extremely disrespectful. What fault have I committed? Furthermore, I taught the disciples on behalf of the Buddha, yet the Buddha not only did not thank me but blamed me instead. This seems rather unreasonable."

The Buddha snorted coldly and said, "This humble monk will handle his own affairs. Fellow Daoist, interfering in the affairs of my Buddhist sect is surely an impolite act."

Liaozhen suddenly laughed and said, "In that case, it is I who was wrong." He paused, then said, "But according to the Buddha's opinion, how should I be punished?"

The Buddha coldly said, "This matter concerns the reputation of our Buddhist sect. Why don't I have a fight with you to settle the karmic debt?"

Liao Zhen laughed and said, "Buddha's words are exactly what I want to say. Since Buddha wants to have a match with me, I will naturally accompany you."

At that moment, Liaozhen walked to the side, gestured to the Buddha with a hand, indicating that he should pass.

With a cold expression, Tathagata also came to the side, and everyone around stepped back, fearing that they would be harmed by Wugu.

The Buddha said, "Fellow Daoist, please be careful."

Liao Zhen laughed and said, "Buddha, you can rest assured, this humble Taoist will accept it."

Tathagata snorted coldly and raised his hand to unleash a beam of Buddhist light towards Liao Zhen. Liao Zhen laughed and said, "Buddha, please do not hesitate to make a move. This humble Taoist has some skills." With that, he waved his hand and unleashed a beam of profound spiritual light to neutralize the Buddhist light.

Upon hearing this, the Buddha was immediately enraged. He manifested a golden body five zhang tall, with twenty-four heads and eighteen arms. Each of the eighteen hands held a necklace, parasol, flower garland, fish-gut ornament, golden bow, silver halberd, white battle-axe, banner, vajra, precious file, silver bottle, and other items, similar to the golden body forged by Cundi, though with some differences. As soon as the golden body appeared, the items in the eighteen hands all struck towards the Buddha.

Liao Zhen's expression turned solemn. He raised his hand and gestured behind him, and the Kunwu Eight Swords flew out of their sheaths automatically. There were eight swords: the first was Yan Ri, the second was Duan Shui, the third was Zhuan Po, the fourth was Xuan Jian, the fifth was Jing Ni, the sixth was Mie Hun, the seventh was Que Xie, and the eighth was Zhen Gang. The eight precious swords floated in the air around Liao Zhen, radiating a deep and cold sword intent. Liao Zhen had a thought, and the eight swords flew out automatically to fight against the golden body of Tathagata.

The onlookers had never seen such a fighting style before. They knew about the Buddha's golden body, one of the two great supernatural powers of Buddhism. Basically, everyone in Buddhism cultivated a golden body. However, the way that Buddha used his sword was somewhat strange. Since ancient times, most swordsmen have personally carried the sword and fought, specializing in close combat. Even those with such striking methods were rare. The few who used it used their primordial spirit to control and guide the attack, making it straightforward. Although they did not know if the saint had such abilities, they had rarely seen such an offensive.

The True Envoy's eight swords moved with the agility of fish using their arms, completely unlike any other attack method. They soared up and down, attacking from the left and right, slipping through the air like butterflies. Even though the Buddha's golden body had eighteen arms, it couldn't catch these eight swords at all. The eight swords were like flies buzzing around a giant, impossible for the giant to swat at. Of course, anyone who thinks these eight swords are flies is probably doomed.

Buddha was also quite surprised. Tongtian Jiaozhu was a master swordsman, but even in his previous life as Duobao, Buddha had never seen such an attack method. Tongtian loved to fight, and his swordsmanship was exceptional, but he preferred close combat. Yet he could use such a technique, and even better than Liaozhen. After all, a sage's understanding of one method illuminates all methods. If Tongtian knew the essence of Liaozhen's use of this technique, he could unleash an attack even better than Liaozhen's.

Long ago, Xuan Tian passed down the Dao of the True Sword. This sword is forged from a precious sword as its embryo, refined by one's own essence. The better the embryo, the stronger the resulting sword. Each person possesses an essence, also called the Primordial Essence or the Primordial Ancestor Essence, which refers to the original essence that gave birth to heaven, earth, humanity, and all things. The Dao is inherently empty, yet it possesses form; essence is inherently real, yet it possesses formlessness. Existence and non-existence mutually restrain each other, thus giving rise to life. Therefore, the Book of Changes says: "Heaven and earth mingle, and all things are transformed; two emotions unite, and all things are formed." The sage explores this profound mystery and understands its source, reversing and forging, defying creation, stealing the mother qi of heaven and earth to make the elixir, stealing the essence of yin and yang to make fire, refining the form to return to oneness, refining the essence to return to nothingness, thus achieving unity between body and Dao.

After obtaining the Kunwu Eight Swords, Liao Zhen diligently practiced the way of the sword. Over the years, he refined it with his own hands and had already achieved great mastery. He had refined the eight swords to the point that they were as strong as his own arms. Later, Xuan Tian told Liao Zhen about the way the Shu Mountain sword immortals of later generations used swords. Although Xuan Tian had never used a sword, it did not mean that he could not use a sword. Moreover, Xuan Tian's swordsmanship was no worse than anyone else's. Compared to the era in which Xuan Tian lived in his previous life, Qi cultivators had already declined, and most people used the methods of sword immortals. Among them, the Shu Mountain Sect was the strongest. Although other sects were weaker, they were not far behind. Each sect had some special methods of using swords.
