Chapter 205 Side Story: Modern Era 4
As Yan Sheng drove, he would occasionally glance at the two little ones in the rearview mirror. Seeing them lying together asleep, Yan Sheng was glad that he had insisted that they both wear seatbelts when they got into the car.
The vehicle drove smoothly. Yan Sheng glanced at his watch and then continued to look ahead. The station was not close to where Yan Sheng lived; it was quite a drive, and the road was congested with traffic during rush hour.
Yan Sheng's gaze pierced through the windshield and landed on the traffic light not far away. His fingers tapped lightly on the steering wheel, the rhythm slow and steady. Just then, his eyes inadvertently caught sight of several familiar figures playfully crossing the zebra crossing ahead.
They are Tanjiro's descendants.
Iwakatsu remembered that he and Yoriichi had met them ten years ago when they were teachers. It was during a joint school study tour, I think.
He watched them drive away until they disappeared from sight, then slowly pressed the accelerator and continued driving. He turned a corner and the car came to a smooth stop in the parking lot.
After parking the car, Iwakatsu opened the back door, looked at the two little ones with a slight annoyance, and reached out to unbuckle their seatbelts. He picked up Yuta, and after making sure that the other hadn't been woken by his movements, he reached out to pick up Muta as well.
"Uncle Yansheng, I can walk by myself..."
His hand was pulled, and Yan Sheng looked down, meeting those clear, mint-green eyes. Wu Tai's movements were swift and practiced; he quickly climbed out of the car and stood on the ground. Seeing this, Yan Sheng reached out his other hand and gently took Wu Tai's small hand in his.
It was a strange feeling. Yan Sheng actually loved children, so he worked as a teacher for many years before retiring and changing careers because he was worried about being exposed.
The elevator doors slowly opened, and Iwakatsu found himself back at his residence. He took out his keys, ready to open the door, only to find it already open from the inside. Yoriichi stood there, his hair no longer casually tied up, his Hanafuda earrings swaying with his movements.
“Brother, you’ve had a long day too.” Yoriichi reached out and took Yuta from Iwakatsu’s arms, then stood there watching Iwakatsu change his shoes in the entryway.
"It's alright." Yan Sheng took out the slippers he had prepared and helped Mu Tai change into them. He then introduced Yoriichi to Mu Tai: "This is my younger brother, Yoriichi."
"Okay, Uncle Yoriichi." Upon hearing his voice, Yoriichi knelt down, patted his head, and led him to the prepared room to rest. Iwakatsu sat on the sofa, checked the messages on his phone, and also let his family know that the two children were safe.
"Brother, the storage room isn't ready yet. May I sleep with you tonight?"
Iwakatsu was engrossed in his phone when a sudden sound beside him startled him. He paused for a moment, thinking in surprise, before he realized what was happening.
The original plan was to tidy up the storage room to store the things in the study and turn the study into a bedroom for Yoriichi, but Yoriichi was not willing and insisted on keeping the study.
"Don't bother tidying up, the bedroom is big enough, we can just sleep there from now on." Yan Sheng said, thinking of the cramped space in the storage room. Although he didn't want to admit it, Yoriichi did look much stronger than him.
"Thank you, elder brother." Yoriichi seemed surprised by Kokukatsu's words, his fiery red eyes sparkling, making Kokukatsu uncomfortable and avert his gaze. He immediately got up, avoiding Yoriichi's advances, and went back to his room to get clothes and take a bath.
The two children were very adaptable; in just a few days of going out with Yoriichi, they became more familiar with the neighbors than Iwakatsu was. Iwakatsu was somewhat surprised, but he also felt that the two children's personalities were exactly the same as Ichiro and Muichiro's.
He looked at the transfer procedures to Tokyo, which were ridiculously complicated. Iwakatsu decided that Yoriichi would handle it, and he needed to focus on preparing for his client meeting.
Watching Iwakatsu head towards his study with his briefcase, Muta, who had just finished showering and was wearing loose pajamas with water still dripping from her hair, turned to look at her older brother Yuta sitting on the sofa, her eyes filled with confusion and bewilderment. "Brother, Uncle Iwakatsu is so busy, I don't want to be an adult anymore."
"You're so useless, you definitely won't be that busy. You can just stay home like Uncle Yoriichi from now on," Yuta said mercilessly, flipping through channels with the TV remote. These words made Muta droop his head and fiddle with the doll in his hands.
Yoriichi, who had just finished cutting fruit: Actually, I have a subsidy.
In his study, Iwakatsu received a message from Ms. Tsukimi, who said she had already made contact and they were arranging to meet at the Gakuen-ya the next day. Iwakatsu was delighted, as securing an agency deal with a well-known brand would be a significant benefit to his new company, Aobigan.
He immediately messaged his useless boss, but as expected, he didn't get a reply. He remained silent for a long time, rubbed his temples, and comforted himself, thinking that it was just their first meeting and it didn't matter whether his boss was there or not.
After finishing his work, Yan Sheng finally relaxed. He looked up and saw two little ones peeking in through the doorway, their eyes full of curiosity and concern. Yan Sheng's gaze softened instantly. "What's wrong? Come in."
"Excuse me," the two said in unison, walking one after the other to Yan Sheng's side and placing the milk and cake they were carrying on his table.
"Thank you," Yan Sheng said, picking up the milk and taking a sip.
Wu Tai stood next to Yan Sheng, looking at him with a puzzled expression, and asked, "Uncle Yan Sheng, are you also very busy tomorrow?"
"There's a very important meeting tomorrow." Iwakatsu nodded, reached out and patted his head. Yuta, standing to the side, pouted and moved closer to Iwakatsu.
"You've worked hard, go to sleep early." Yan Sheng looked at You Tai's appearance, raised his hand and rubbed his head, then got up and pulled the two of them away.
After escorting them back to their rooms, Iwakatsu turned around and saw Yoriichi standing behind him, still staring at him expressionlessly. If he hadn't been used to it, Iwakatsu would have really thought that the other person had some kind of problem with him.
"Does my elder brother still have to work?"
Yoriichi noticed that his older brother seemed much busier after changing jobs, and when he asked him about it, the brother only gave perfunctory answers, which made him feel strange.
"Uh, all done for today." Iwakatsu had intended to review the documents again, but for some reason felt a chill and blurted out. Meeting Yoriichi's fiery red eyes, he subconsciously looked away and quickly returned to his room.
As Yoriichi watched Iwakatsu's retreating figure, he sensed that his older brother was hiding something from him. Was there a problem with his work? Looking at the list of schools he had originally intended to discuss with Iwakatsu, he decided it would be better to ask the two children for their opinions tomorrow.
