During our conversation, I also learned that Eiko was of Japanese descent. Her ancestors, stranded on this desolate island for various reasons, initially considered countless ways to escape, but the daily, year-after-year torment had long since worn away their initial ambitions. Simply contemplating daily survival sapped their remaining energy, and they simply couldn't bear to struggle any further. The northeastern region was their clan's territory, and they ruled as kings, detaching themselves from the rest of the island. They reclaimed the wasteland, cultivated crops, and mined for water, diverting seawater through various channels and filtering it for domestic use. Their ancestors had lived in this area for more than three generations, each family living in peace and contentment, with no desire to venture out and see the world, or return to the outside world. However, the good times didn't last long. The recent severe weather has killed many nearby creatures, freezing even the water sources, and much of it has become tainted and unfit for drinking. The sudden drop in temperature over the past few days has left scores of people dying of cold and starvation. Zhizi's husband died in this blizzard. He had gone out hunting, hoping to improve their family's well-being and provide a better winter for his wife and children. But as luck would have it, a ferocious tiger emerged, skinning and devouring him alive. Nothing remained of his body, only his blood-stained, tattered clothes. With her husband dead, the tribe remained confined to their homes, relying on the surrounding wild grasses and fruits for survival. But this wasn't a long-term solution; supplies would eventually run out, and her children were too young to endure such a hardship. Forced to do so, she took her two children and left them to forage for food, hoping for new hope.
I zeroed in on the key points she'd described: the sudden drop in temperature, the tiger attacking people, the extremely severe weather, the sudden increase in turbidity of the drinking water. I analyzed them carefully, but couldn't make any sense. The only thing I knew for sure was that the story of the tiger attacking people was too bizarre; there had to be something fishy going on. I'd been on this island for so many days, and while I'd seen plenty of wolves, I'd never encountered a tiger. If such a terrifying tiger truly existed on the island, how could there be so many of them still alive, waiting for me to discover them one by one?
One thing I'm certain of is that last night's bizarre situation likely had nothing to do with these two children. Those mysterious individuals were truly remarkably patient. Even Chen Fei couldn't help but give them a thumbs-up.
After getting the information I wanted, I didn't show much enthusiasm for the mother and daughter. After all, I am a man, and I still understand the simple truth that there are differences between men and women. The whole time, Qin Lan was chattering and dispelling the other party's vigilance. This woman, I know her. That soft woman's heart must have softened into a puddle of water again.
"Zhizi, the fish is ready, come and take a look."
"Zhizi, come wash your face and wash the children too."
"Zhizi, I have some adult clothes here, come and try them on."
"Zhizi, I've warmed up the water. Give it to the children."
"Zhizi, how about the fish? My cooking skills are pretty good, right?"
"Zhizi, why don't you just come with us."
"Zhizi, look, we have food and drink here, and there are people to help you take care of the children."
"Zhizi, you can come with us on the journey. You can also keep me company."
"Zhizi, look at this group of men. I really want to find a woman to talk to."
"Zhizi, what do you think?"
"Zhizi, if you don't say anything, I'll take it as your consent."
………………
What an incredibly noisy woman. Did they agree? They were clearly overwhelmed by your enthusiasm and simply agreed, feeling embarrassed to refuse. Seeing Da Fei and his group covering their ears with annoyed expressions, I felt a certain sympathy. I feigned disdain, but inside, I felt incredibly relieved and happy.
Qin Lan is really annoying tonight.
The long night passed without incident. The only difference was that there was a woman and two children in our group. It seemed quite interesting, not so boring. Just think of it as a new companion. Children are always lovable. Even a big, strong, and bad-tempered man like Da Fei softened his attitude towards these two children.
