Chapter 29: Where to Live

It took us half a day to finally find a small cave halfway up a mountain.

The depth of this cave is only about 5 meters, but there is water flowing down from the rocks on one side of the cave, which is a readily available source of water.

This place is very hidden, and the surrounding roads are not easy to walk on. I don’t believe that anyone will come to this ghost place in a short time.

"Then let's make sure we're here."

I felt that this place was good, so I naturally had to ask Qin Lan for her consent.

"Well, I'll listen to you. I think this place is pretty good too."

After getting Qin Lan's consent, we started to take action.

"There's a lot of mud in this cave, but after a rough look, I think there's probably rock underneath. We have to dig it out today, otherwise it'll be really hard to sleep at night."

Let's do it right away. The military shovel is an excellent choice here.

In order to have something to hold the dirt, we donated one of our backpacks.

While Qin Lan was digging the soil, I carried it out in bags using my backpack. Of course, all this soil was treasure, so I piled it outside the cave, and I would have other uses for it later.

It took us more than two hours to remove most of the soil.

Looking at Qin Lan sweating profusely, a trace of reluctance flashed through my heart.

"You take a rest first, I'll be back soon."

But just as I was about to go out, I turned back out of worry.

"Take this."

I grabbed Qin Lan's hand and gave her the gun.

"What are you going to do?"

Perhaps it was the first time she touched this piece of metal, Qin Lan seemed a little confused.

"Take this for self-defense. Otherwise, I really won't trust you to go out alone in the future."

Qin Lan has been in danger many times since she came here. If the knife cannot protect her well, then I believe that this gun must be her best amulet.

"But...but I don't know how to use it."

Qin Lan looked at me innocently, and I slapped my forehead in sudden realization. My memory was so bad that I only thought about giving her the weapon but forgot to teach her how to use it.

"Look, this is the gun chamber, and this is..."

So I taught her word by word for a while. Of course, there were only three bullets left, and I only taught her verbally. As for whether she could really do it or not, it would depend on her actual practice in the future.

Naturally, I hope she will never have to use that gun. I gave it to her just to let her use it to intimidate the enemy.

After the lecture, I took the saber and walked down the mountain. I remembered seeing some palm trees there as I passed by.

After walking about a kilometer, I found the palm forest. The saber I got from the old man was quite sharp, and I could chop down a palm tree in a few strokes. In fact, only two palm trees were enough for me today.

I found two of the straightest pieces of palm wood as a backup. My survival experience told me that these two pieces of wood were not enough.

I've made a rough observation and found that this island is tropical, with a large temperature difference between day and night and good humidity, so vines and other things can be easily picked up.

I found a lot of vines and used them to tightly wrap the two pieces of palm wood together. Of course, this was not enough, so I found a few broad palm leaves, which were essential.

I have to say that it was thanks to my good physical strength that I would have found it really difficult to bring back such a large thing.

"You didn't go away for so long just to bring these things back, did you?"

Seeing me about to enter the cave, Qin Lan hurried forward to help.

“This is a necessity for our lives.”

I patted the pile of things and looked at Qin Lan with interest.

"These? What can you use them for? To make a fire?"

Qin Lan fiddled with the palm wood, her eyes full of confusion.

"These are for building our beds."

"Sharing a bed?"

When Qin Lan heard me mention the bed, her expression became even more surprised. I understood that it was difficult for her to imagine this pile of rotten wood with a bed.

"Well, just watch what I do."

As I spoke, I untied the vines from the palm wood. I actually wanted to use these two pieces of palm wood as support, and the vines would be the ropes I used for weaving.

I remember seeing this knitting method in a book before, but when I tried it, I had two different feelings. I couldn't figure out how to knit it over and over again.

"Are you going to weave these into a bed?"

Qin Lan seemed to see through my idea.

"Yeah, but I'm not very good at making this stuff up."

I held the vine awkwardly, an apologetic look on my face.

"Why didn't you tell me earlier? Okay, take a rest. Leave this to me."

Qin Lan took the thing from my hand as soon as she finished speaking, and when I came to my senses, she had already started knitting in an orderly manner.

"You...you can make up stories?"

I was indeed a little shocked when I saw Qin Lan's hand movements.

"Why, are you surprised that I would do this?"

Although Qin Lan lowered her head, I could already sense the pride in the corners of her mouth from her tone. Yes, this time I admit that she really impressed me.

"Have you learned this, or?"

"My grandfather taught me when I was a child."

When the word "Grandpa" was mentioned, I could clearly feel the hoarseness in Qin Lan's vocal cords. She missed her family after being away for so long.

"Grandpa has always loved these handicrafts. He said that only those made by one's own hands have soul."
