Chapter 35: Going on a Long Trip

It has been nearly a month since I came here, and over time, the clothes have gradually begun to rot, and Qin Lan's clothes have been torn into pieces by Li Tianming. Now, in the light of the fire, I can vaguely see the scenery on Qin Lan's chest.

"Hello, Fade Chen, Fade Chen?"

Seeing that I was suddenly distracted while talking, Qin Lan called me twice tentatively.

But the two consecutive sounds did not pull me out of my distraction.

Qin Lan couldn't bear the doubt any longer, so she looked in the direction I was looking. When she saw the scene in front of her chest, the crisp sound of slapping rang out again in the whole cave.

He chewed the grilled fish tastelessly in his mouth, and the slaps on both sides of his cheeks were burning with pain. As a man, if he couldn't grasp the beauty in front of him, then he could just chop off the thing in his lower body.

After eating the grilled fish, I also remembered the three crabs I brought back. The crabs here are so delicious just by looking at their appearance.

After doing some simple treatment, I put out the charcoal fire in the stove. Charcoal ash is a natural cooking product. After putting out the open flame, I covered the three crabs under the ash.

"I never realized you were so capable before."

Qin Lan squatted obediently beside him, poking the ground with a wooden stick intentionally or unintentionally.

"I used to be your bodyguard. How could you even look at me straight in the eye, let alone get to know me so closely?"

My expression was a little awkward. If we hadn't been stranded on a desert island together this time, I'm afraid I would never have had such a close contact with Qin Lan in my life.

Time flies by at our fingertips. The crabs at night are much more tender and fresh, and much more delicious than the ones we usually buy at home.

At night, I naturally slept with Qin Lan again, and it was normal for us to hug each other occasionally.

When we woke up the next day, we ate three more fish early in the morning. There were still more than ten fish left, but according to the normal temperature here, there was no way we could finish them before they went bad.

"It looks like we can't finish eating all these fish. Should we throw them away?"

Qin Lan looked at the remaining fish helplessly, her eyes full of reluctance.

“We can actually save them.”

I took a big bite of the fish and looked at Qin Lan thoughtfully.

"What are you thinking? This is a deserted island and there's no refrigerator. How can it possibly be stored here?"

"Fresh fish naturally cannot be kept for a long time, but we can process it in a simple way."

I looked at the little bit of white smoke seeping out of the stove, and I had a certain idea in my mind.

"You mean to put them away after they're done?"

Qin Lan followed my gaze and noticed the stove in front of us. She understood that I was planning to take over the stove again.

"What you said is somewhat correct, but not entirely."

Qin Lan did understand my intention, but she didn't guess it completely right. The cooked fish can indeed be preserved for a few days, but it cannot be preserved for a long time.

"Have you ever heard of smoked fish?"

I looked at Qin Lan with great interest. A lady from a wealthy family like Qin Lan probably had never eaten such a cheap snack as dried fish.

Hearing the unfamiliar word "dried fish", Qin Lan shook her head in confusion. She had never heard of such a thing before.

"I knew you hadn't heard of it."

The remaining few fish were not processed, so I rinsed their internal organs with the running water in the cave.

There was still some bamboo left from the bamboo I cut yesterday, so I just made some bamboo sticks out of it.

I strung the remaining fish one by one with bamboo sticks.

Then I observed the fire in the stove and put out the flames briefly while there was the most charcoal.

I tested the temperature inside the oven with my hand, and this medium temperature is the most suitable.

I put the fish down into the oven with a bamboo skewer. I didn't want to roast it with charcoal fire, but to smoke it with the help of the smoke inside to achieve the purpose of preserving the quality.

Therefore, the smoke outlet was temporarily blocked by me.

It took four ovens to roast all the fish.

Just now, while grilling fish, I made a drying rack with bamboo, and asked Qin Lan to weave textures on the rack with rattan.

So I hung the fish on the rack and found a place with the most sunlight around our residence, and hung the fish there.

"Will this preserve it?"

Qin Lan watched everything I did, and I knew she had memorized all the procedures. These days, no matter what I did, Qin Lan would always follow me closely when I did it the first time, and then when I was out, Qin Lan would do it herself.

"Don't worry, this method can preserve it for more than a few months."

I grew up by the sea. Whenever there were fish and shrimp that couldn't be sold or eaten, my mother would dry them and hang them up. In this way, as long as they were not exposed to moisture, they could be kept for half a year.

"Are you going fishing again today?"

Qin Lan guessed my intention when she saw the tools in my hand.

"The wind and waves on the island have been quite strong these days, and the moisture at the roots of the plants is much greater today than it was a while ago. I can sense that the rainy season will soon arrive on the island, so we must store food now."

"Take me with you."

Qin Lan came up and grabbed my arm, hoping that I would take her with me.

"You should stay at home today. It's too windy and dusty outside. Just take care of the house."

My right eyelid has been twitching today, and I always feel that something bad will happen today, so for safety reasons I can't bring Qin Lan with me.
