Chapter 16

Chapter 16

On the other hand, Chi Ximin, upon seeing that figure, instantly sobered up considerably.

Isn't this her brother?!

Why did Yu Xia bump into her brother's arms?

Tang Chi hadn't reacted yet when he noticed that it was very quiet next to him. He turned around and saw Chi Ximin staring wide-eyed, her mouth agape in an "o" shape, her voice stuck in her throat, her face filled with terror.

Tang Chi nudged her and asked curiously, "What's wrong with you? Why are you looking like this—"

Before she could finish speaking, Chi Ximin's voice rang out, as if she had suddenly come to her senses, startling everyone: "That's my brother!"

Tang Chi: ? ? ! ? ?

Chi Ximin was so startled awake that she dared not look at her brother's expression!

Her brother hates being touched by others!

It's all over. Everything is over.

Sister Yu Xia will die a horrible death!

"What do we do?" Chi Ximin looked at the other side in panic. Yu Xia was cowering like a quail egg, while her brother looked down at her condescendingly, as if scolding her. Chi Ximin swallowed nervously; she dared not walk into the line of fire. Coming to the bar was already enough to infuriate her brother; if this happened too, she would be nothing short of suicide.

But seeing Yu Xia being scolded so miserably by her brother, Chi Ximin felt incredibly conflicted.

Just as she made up her mind to be cannon fodder, she saw Yu Xia suddenly raise her head and look at her brother.

And what was her brother doing? He seemed to be smiling at Yu Xia, his expression quite gentle, showing no signs of anger or impatience, and even a hint of helplessness that he himself didn't realize.

Huh? He smiled? Is this really her brother? He didn't impatiently shove her away, and even smiled at her? Judging from his expression and demeanor, he wasn't angry at all; it seemed like he was comforting her?

No, is this still her brother?

Chi Ximin felt a little dazed.

Just as she stood up, a familiar gaze swept over her. The look in that gaze was like magic; it had been perfectly normal a moment ago, but when it saw her, it suddenly turned cold, as if it were filled with ice shards. Chi Ximin was startled and sat back down.

It's over. She felt that it wasn't Sister Yu Xia who was going to die without a burial place, but herself.

Chi Ximin's legs were trembling. She grabbed Tang Chi's arm and stared at the person walking towards her. She stammered, "Sister Tang Chi... will I be able to go back alive today?"

Tang Chi followed her gaze and saw the man's aggressive strides. She sadly shook her head for her: "It's hard to say."

"Chi Ximin." As he spoke, Gu Yubai had already come to her, followed by Yu Xia behind him.

Gu Yubai called her name expressionlessly, but his displeasure was evident in his voice. When he saw Chi Ximin's flushed face, his brows furrowed even deeper, making his already unpleasant complexion even more frightening and intimidating.

"Ha, brother." Chi Ximin stood up with a forced laugh. "Brother, you came so quickly. Was there any traffic on the way?"

"I didn't know you could drink so much if I didn't come." Gu Yubai swept his hand across the table, revealing a large pile of empty glasses. His tone clearly showed his displeasure.

"I...I didn't drink much," Chi Ximin said guiltily, glancing pleadingly at Yu Xia behind him. Yu Xia had managed to escape from her brother's clutches just now; she could surely save her from this predicament now as well.

Chi Ximin blinked at her, the meaning clear: Help me.

Yu Xia did not disappoint her expectations and quickly stepped forward to clarify for Chi Ximin: "I drank most of these. I drank more. I saw Chi Ximin. The wine I gave her was low-alcohol. She didn't drink many glasses. She just doesn't have a high alcohol tolerance. She got flushed and a little drunk after only a few glasses."

What Yu Xia said was true.

When Gu Yubai heard Yu Xia say that, his expression suddenly changed to one of surprise: "You drank so much?"

Gu Yubai's expression softened somewhat, no longer carrying the stern and oppressive tone from before. He even asked Yu Xia with a hint of concern, "Are you drunk too?"

Chi Ximin, standing to the other side: ? ?

"Huh?" Yu Xia didn't expect him to ask this. After realizing what he meant, she quickly shook her head. "I'm not that drunk, I'm fine. Chi Ximin is more drunk, you should take her home first."

"Hmm," Gu Yubai's expression softened a bit when he heard that she wasn't drunk, but the little anchor seemed to be saying that he wanted to drink a little longer. Thinking about the time, Gu Yubai's eyebrows furrowed involuntarily. It was too late, and it wasn't safe.

"Do you need me to take you and your friend home?" Gu Yubai asked.

"Huh?" Yu Xia was even more stunned when he said that. "No, no need, no need to trouble you. We can go back by ourselves in a while."

Although Gu Yubai was not happy, he didn't say anything. He figured the little streamer would have to go back later, so he didn't try to persuade her to stay.

He glanced at Chi Ximin and said, "Take your bag and come back with me."

"Oh, okay." Seeing that her brother wasn't as scary as before, Chi Ximin quickly grabbed her bag and followed, afraid that he would revert to his ferocious state in a moment.

Gu Yubai nodded to Tang Chi and Yu Xia: "Then I'll take her back first. Thank you for taking care of her."

Chi Ximin quickly responded, "Hey, Sister Tang Chi, Sister Yu Xia, thank you so much. I'll be going with my brother now, goodbye!"

Tang Chi and Yu Xia waved to her.

Only after the two figures disappeared from his sight did Tang Chi approach Yu Xia, looking completely bewildered, and ask, "What happened? How did you end up bumping into someone?"

After everyone left, Yu Xia's shoulders, which had been tense, slumped instantly. Her head slumped weakly on the table, and she turned her face away, saying with a look of despair, "Heh, there are always treacherous subjects trying to harm me."

Yu Xia got angry just thinking about that leg. Whose was it? She absolutely couldn't let her find out, or she'd be dead!

Tang Chi ignored her stubborn expression and nudged Yu Xia, teasingly asking, "How was it? I saw you touching it for quite a while, how did it feel?"

"I feel like I'm going to die."

"Huh?" Tang Chi didn't understand. "Why? That guy doesn't look like he's not in good shape. What's wrong? You're not happy that you touched this type? Besides, Chi Ximin's brother is really handsome, even better looking than any of the celebrities I've seen before. He's just a bit cold, but that doesn't matter. Tell me, tell me, what did it feel like to touch that handsome guy's pectoral muscles?"

Yu Xia forced a stiff smile: "What if I told you that he was my client?"

Tang Chi: "..."

"Then you really are, really destined to be with him." Tang Chi thought for a long time, but didn't know what words to use to describe this dramatic scene. He could only use the word "destined" to express his consolation to Yu Xia in a dignified way.

Yu Xia touched the wine glass on the table and sighed, "I want to live on another planet."

Tang Chi: "..."

Chi Ximin was taken home by her brother, and she didn't dare to utter a word, following him timidly.

Upon entering the living room, Gu Yubai turned on the switch with a "click," and all the lights in the living room came on. When the light shone down, Chi Ximin hadn't even reacted yet, and was so blinded by the light that she subconsciously blinked.

After changing her shoes, Chi Ximin stood there motionless, not daring to say she wanted to go upstairs.

Despite their usual playful banter, Chi Ximin knew that her brother was quite frightening when he really got angry, and she didn't dare to provoke him.

When Gu Yubai came out of the kitchen with a glass of water, Chi Ximin stood up straight, like a good student waiting to be criticized.

Gu Yubai placed the water glass on the table and said to her calmly, "Drink the water."

"Oh." Upon hearing this, Chi Ximin immediately went over obediently, picked up the water glass, which was still warm, and carefully drank a few sips while watching Gu Yubai's expression.

Then Gu Yubai asked, "You made plans to go with Yu Xia?"

Huh? Chi Ximin was a little taken aback. She thought Gu Yubai was going to interrogate her about sneaking into the bar. In the few seconds she was drinking water, she had already prepared a draft of how to defend herself, but she didn't expect Gu Yubai to ask this question, which made her pause for a moment.

"No, I met them at the bar, and Sister Yu Xia was worried about me being alone, so she let me go with them." As she spoke, she quickly explained, afraid that Gu Yubai might overthink it, "But I really didn't drink much. Sister Yu Xia knows a lot about alcohol. She mixed all my drinks and didn't let me drink anything indiscriminately."

Gu Yubai glanced at her indifferently: "I haven't said anything yet, why are you explaining so much? It's like you're admitting guilt without being asked."

"No!" Hearing him say that, Chi Ximin raised her voice immediately, "I didn't confess without being asked. What do you mean by feeling guilty? I'm just telling the truth, okay?"

"Besides, even if you don't trust me, you should at least trust Sister Yu Xia. She's such a good person, she definitely wouldn't lie to you."

"Your voice has deafened me," Gu Yubai was initially quite dissatisfied with Chi Ximin's loud voice, which had startled him, but upon hearing Chi Ximin's next sentence, he seemed to realize something, and his expression suddenly softened, and his voice became less harsh.

He nodded slightly and said, "Yes, she's a very nice person."

After saying that, he looked up and asked Chi Ximin, "What else did you guys do at the bar?"

Chi Ximin thought he wanted to see if she had done anything wrong at the bar, so she held her water glass and honestly confessed everything she had done there: "Sister Yu Xia mixed my drinks, and then the three of us drank, chatted, and gossiped."

"Didn't you do anything else?"

"No," Chi Ximin answered subconsciously. After answering, she realized that her brother did not react, so she quietly raised her head and glanced at him. Only then did she notice that her brother's eyebrows were tightly furrowed and his mouth was opening and closing, as if he wanted to say something but was thinking and struggling not to know how to say it.

A strange, stubborn streak was rarely seen in her brother.

Holding her water glass, Chi Ximin suddenly realized, for some reason, that her usually slow-witted mind had reached its peak. A flash of inspiration struck her, and she vaguely sensed her brother's true intentions from his hesitant and probing attitude.

"Oh, but someone came up to Sister Yu Xia halfway through and said they wanted to buy her a drink," Chi Ximin said casually.
