Chapter 22: Locked Drawer

Chapter 22: Locked Drawer

"Five to one, I finally won!"

"Ah, Xia Cheng, I finally got the landlord award, can't you let me win for once?"

The voice coming from the ward made Xun Sheng stunned. The voice was too familiar. He opened the door and saw a familiar person.

Lin Minghe waved at him with his face covered with notes, and when he stood up, one or two of them fell to the ground.

Yu Jingyuan turned around, his face clean.

Xia Cheng, who was supposed to be resting, leaned on the pillow, with the same number of notes on her face as Lin Minghe, covering her small face.

Xun Sheng sighed and frowned slightly:

"What are you doing?"

"Fight the Landlord, Xun Sheng, do you want to play?"

"No."

"Come on, come on. You were always victorious in the casino before."

"I don't play with patients. It's like bullying."

"If you say that, can I understand that I am bullying Xia Cheng?" Yu Jingyuan grabbed the cards, touched his chin, and his eyes stayed on Xia Cheng's face, and said seriously:

"Well, my face isn't fully covered yet, so I'll have to work harder."

The three men burst into laughter.

Only then did Xia Cheng realize that they were joking.

Yu Jingyuan put down the cards, and Lin Minghe put them away in the drawer.

Xun Sheng placed the thermos on the table and spread out the bone soup and seasonal vegetables.

"It's already time for lunch! Time flies so fast." Lin Minghe stood up. He was really ready to go back. He had training in the afternoon and couldn't stay any longer.

"Xia Cheng, remember to send me a message when you're discharged from the hospital. I'll come see you again."

Yu Jingyuan also took a leave of absence. He avoided the two of them, secretly winked at Xia Cheng, rubbed her head, and lowered his voice:

"I'm leaving now. Call me if you need anything."

Xia Cheng nodded and said goodbye to the two with a faint smile.

After everyone left, she picked up her phone and saw that so many classmates had sent her messages. She started replying and even forgot to eat.

Seeing this, Xun Sheng tapped the table with his fingers, reminding with the crisp sound of his knuckles: "Eat."

"Hold on."

"I have something else to do this afternoon."

Xia Cheng then put down her phone and looked behind him.

"Why not Mom?"

"Something happened at the studio and she couldn't leave."

"What about Dad?"

"Something happened at the company, and I can't leave."

"Where's Momo?"

Xun Sheng raised his eyebrows, stretched out his hand, paused with his slender fingers, and poked Xia Cheng's forehead with his well-manicured fingers to stop her from speaking.

"Why, brother, can't you do that?"

Xia Cheng felt that this sentence was ambiguous.

She looked at Xun Sheng's expressionless face. He had a pair of peach blossom eyes, but he never even bothered to smile. He looked cold and distant. Perhaps because he had just met the other two, his face softened.

"Of course." Xia Cheng held Xun Sheng's fingers and rubbed them. "I'm just worried that my brother is too busy with work."

"I'm really busy. I'll ask my secretary to send it next time."

"No, that won't work. The things my secretary sent me are not as delicious as the things my brother sent me."

Xun Sheng sat down on the chair, knowing that Xia Cheng was complimenting him, but he didn't expose her. He tried to see her behavior as coquettish, and finding that he could tolerate it, he acquiesced.

He came to deliver the meal, following He Qing's words. They were family, so how could he not come? Moreover, his father was in charge of the company, so he just followed the wishes of those old guys and took a break.

"Brother, don't you want to eat?" Xia Cheng interrupted Xun Sheng's thoughts. Xun Sheng shook his head: "I've already eaten."

Actually, it was a lie, he had no appetite.

Seeing that Xia Cheng believed it, she drank the soup in small sips and put the milky white yam into her mouth, which contrasted sharply with her bright red lips. He swallowed and thought: I should try the soup from that restaurant someday.

Xia Cheng stayed in the hospital for a week. In fact, she could have gotten out of bed after resting for about three days, but He Qing was worried and forced her to stay for a week.

After being discharged from the hospital, He Qing almost lived in the studio, and staying up late to work overtime was a common occurrence for him.

Xia Cheng didn't understand design or the company. She only knew that Xun Mo studied fine arts and went to He Qing's studio to learn and help out, while Xun Sheng was busy working at the company.

Because of her hospitalization, He Qing asked for a month's leave for her and applied for a deferral of the final exams. Together with the summer vacation, there were three months of vacation in total. She was the only one with free time at home. While feeling relaxed and comfortable, she was also a little bored.

The bruises on her body have not yet disappeared, but her foot injury has gradually recovered due to hospitalization. She can now walk normally and slowly without the need for a crutch.

Thinking of Danguai, Xia Cheng was still thinking about one thing.

It was a sunny day in June. Xia Cheng took a pair of gardening shears and cut Xiao Lai with one cut. Xiao Lai almost cried.

"Miss, if you cut it bald, it will be sad."

"Oh, sorry sorry, I'm so bored."

"Miss, why don't you go sit over there? The sun will tan you, and you just got out of the hospital, so you need to rest."

Xia Cheng pretended not to understand this disguised refusal to help. She held the scissors in both hands and moved closer to Xiao Lai.

"Xiao Lai, what's your real name?"

"Miss, it's Li Laiyang."

"Then why do they all call you Xiao Lai? And not Xiao Yang?"

"It was the young master who called me that first. I don't know why..."

"Xiao Lai, how long have you been in this house?"

"I've been here since I was born..."

"What!" This was something Xia Cheng had not expected. Does that mean... her family employs child labor?

"What's wrong, miss?"

"Xiao Lai, you should be very familiar with your home, right?"

"It's okay. I'm quite familiar with the first floor. What's wrong, miss?"

"Have you seen this thing?"

Xia Cheng took out her phone. Xiao Lai leaned over to take a look. Seeing that it was Danguai, he touched his head, puzzled:

"I haven't seen this since the young lady fell down the stairs."

"I'm not talking about a crutch." Xia Cheng zoomed in on the end of the picture, finally stopping at the dark non-slip pad on the crutch. "Have you seen this thing at home?"

"No, did it fall down? It was probably cleaned up by the cleaning ladies."

"Okay, then do you know where the surveillance camera is?"

"I know that." Xiao Lai smiled and pointed to the second floor.

"In the study."

Xia Cheng looked in the direction he pointed, and saw that the study and Xun Mo's room were adjacent, and she couldn't help but squint her eyes.

"Thanks."

She took two steps at a time and ran up to the second floor, came to the study, sat down at the computer desk, wanted to turn on the computer, but was troubled by the power-on password.

She didn't believe Xun Sheng or Xun Mo. If she asked her parents, and she was wrong, things would get out of hand. Xia Cheng thought about it and her eyes moved to the bookshelf. There were so many books that she couldn't flip through them one by one.

Xia Cheng bent down and prepared to start looking in the drawer, hoping that the person who set the password would write it down.

But the drawer was also locked, which made Xia Cheng confused.

The servants were not allowed to clean the study on the second floor without permission. What did the owner of the study, his father, put in the drawer that needed to be locked?
