Chapter 23: Lin Minghe: Playboy
Xun Youdong is a big entrepreneur, and what is placed here probably contains corporate information and some documents. Thinking of this, Xia Cheng no longer insisted on opening the drawer.
She stood up, her hair blocking her view, so she didn't see the table. The back of her head hit it directly, and the tabletop shook.
She squatted on the spot with her head covered. This time she didn't dare to stand up blindly. She looked up in the direction, but suddenly a round metal appeared in her eyes.
"What is this?" Xia Cheng reached out and touched it, and her fingertips touched a plastic ring, which seemed to be not sealed with the round metal.
She tried to press it, and to her surprise, it actually worked. The round metal creaked and sank, and the lamp actually moved slowly, leaving its dark brown base.
Xia Cheng walked over and saw that it was just a mirror.
She poked the mirror, feeling strange, but she touched it repeatedly and found nothing unusual. She couldn't figure it out no matter how hard she tried.
"Light...mirror..."
With his mind racing and a bitter look on his face, Xia Cheng stopped focusing on the mirror and began trying to rotate the base.
The base was tilted at a fifty-degree angle. Xia Cheng walked around the lamp a few times but didn't find any other buttons. She took a closer look and was dazzled by the light reflected from the mirror.
"So that's how it is."
She murmured, pulled the curtains shut to prevent any light from entering the study, and then turned on the desk lamp.
The light reflected by the tilted mirror falls right on the bookshelf.
The bookshelf that almost took up an entire wall was old and covered in dust. Xia Cheng looked up and saw an ancient red book with a thick spine illuminated by the light among the pile of books.
Even if a chair is brought in, it cannot be touched.
Do I have to step on the table?
But how do we move the table over here?
Just as she was hesitating, she heard the housekeeper's voice outside the window: "Sir, Mr. Wan called home and said he wanted to talk to you."
"What time?"
"Around October."
"Why is he in such a hurry about something that happened in October?"
Xia Cheng didn't listen to the rest of the words. She was anxious to restore the study, put the desk lamp and chair back in place, and opened the study door. The footsteps were getting closer and closer. Finally, she sat down in front of the computer and randomly entered a password.
As the words "Wrong password, please re-enter" came out, she saw Xun Youdong appear at the door through the crack in the door.
Noticing that there was someone in the study, Xun Youdong pushed the door open without hesitation and saw Xia Cheng sitting in front of the computer. As he walked in, his eyes swept across the bookshelf.
"Dad, why are you back?"
"What are you doing here?"
Xun Youdong was not as kind as usual. His solemn expression became even colder after he saw the closed curtains.
Xia Cheng stood up and swallowed.
"I want to check the surveillance, but I can't open the computer."
“Why do you want to watch the surveillance?”
"My crutch is missing, I want to look for it."
"You can ask the servants."
"I asked, and Xiao Lai said he didn't know, so I just wanted to come and take a look."
Xun Youdong strode to the window and grasped the dark curtains. The curtains were pulled open again, revealing the well-kept courtyard outside. Only then did he feel relieved.
"The password is my cell phone number."
Before Xia Cheng could type, she heard him say:
"I need to use the study right now for something. You don't need to check the surveillance footage for your crutch. I'll have someone send you a new one. I heard from Xun Sheng that your phone was broken, so I'll buy you a new one as well."
Xia Cheng agreed and left the study according to his instructions. Xun Youdong's return time was too unfortunate, so she couldn't see the surveillance and didn't know what was on the bookshelf.
Passing by Xun Mo's room, Xia Cheng stopped.
Being able to let Xun Mo live next to the study is also a kind of trust.
What secret was her father hiding? Was he hiding it from her specifically, or from everyone?
The method of watching the surveillance video didn't work. Xia Cheng had no other way to know whether she fell accidentally. In fact, the surveillance video couldn't cover the third floor. She just wanted to see if the people who entered and exited the third floor that day had deleted the video.
Now she couldn't see anything, so she could only choose to look for the anti-slip pad under her crutch. She had clearly heard a strange sound that day and saw something bounce out in front of her.
Xia Cheng bent over on the third floor. She even found a magnifying glass. The common area on the third floor wasn't very big. She looked under the carpet and in every corner, but still found nothing. Where had it gone? Had the maid swept it up like garbage?
This made Xia Cheng feel depressed. Everything went wrong today. She sat down on the ground and thought that she should go to the temple to burn some incense for good luck.
The buzzing sound of the cell phone interrupted Xia Cheng's thoughts. She took out the phone from her back pocket and saw Lin Minghe's message.
The day Lin Minghe came to see her, he asked for Xia Cheng's contact information. He frequently texted her during her hospital stay. When she was discharged, he had said he would come pick her up, but something else delayed him. To apologize, he even treated Xia Cheng to a meal.
Xia Cheng was reluctant and didn't refuse completely. Finally, she pretended that she couldn't refuse the kindness and agreed.
Lin Minghe sent a message now, and it turned out that he was going to break the appointment again. Maybe Xia Cheng didn't reply for too long, so he called again soon.
"Xia Cheng, um... I'm so sorry! I didn't expect to return to the team so soon. I haven't been able to keep my promise. I will make it up to you next time we meet!"
"It's okay. We're all friends. Don't worry about these little things. And since you're telling me now, it doesn't count as standing me up. Just go back and train with peace of mind."
"Aren't you angry?" Lin Minghe asked cautiously.
"No, I'm not as easily angered as you think. Besides, you didn't mean it, right?"
"Of course not on purpose!"
Lin Minghe's voice was intermittent, revealing a sense of youthful shame, and he hesitated: "Can I continue to chat with you in the future?"
"Do you really want to chat with me? I don't think it's very good."
Noticing Lin Minghe's breath hitched, Xia Cheng continued to explain: "Momo will care about this."
"I don't like Xun Mo!" Lin Minghe said this with all his strength. He couldn't explain it in the ward that day, but now that he said it, he felt so relieved.
"You don't like Xun Mo? But you often play with her. If that's not love, then what is it?"
"I don't want to play with her, I want to play with Yu Jingyuan and Xun Sheng."
"Well, you're having a lot of fun..."
Since the night she knew that Lin Minghe was a celebrity, Xia Cheng had been searching various websites for information about him. There were a lot of gossips about him, and Xia Cheng absolutely did not believe that they were all fake.
Did those ex-girlfriends on the same team, the cute female stars, and the bright female models all spend their own money to have someone take their photos and then send them to the paparazzi?
